Chapter 1246: Chapter 1057, Prosperity_2
"Brother, we have so many relatives."
Daomang’s little mouth opened slightly, unable to help but exclaim.
In Xiliang, at the Prince Residence, there was only their family of five plus Gu Jian, a far cry from the splendid number of descendants in the three branches of the Yan Family.
It was not advisable to block the doorway, so after Xiao Yeyang had paid his respects, Yan Zhigao beckoned everyone to return to their rooms.
Once back in the old madam’s courtyard, the cordial greetings commenced anew.
After the adults had exchanged pleasantries, Daohua, smiling, took charge of introducing the three little ones to everyone.
"Great Ancestor."
"Maternal Grandfather, Maternal Grandmother."
"Third Maternal Grandfather, Third Maternal Grandmother."
"Second Uncle, Second Aunt; Third Uncle, Third Aunt..."
After a round of formalities, the brains of the three little ones were nearly spinning.
Daozi did not want to embarrass his parents and kept his back straight, perfectly mimicking the dignity of a Little Prince; this demeanor greatly impressed Yan Zhigao, who then enthusiastically delved into testing his knowledge.
Daozi wasn’t afraid of such examinations at all; in Xiliang, the masters at the Academy and at home took turns testing him daily, so he had become immune to this.
In response to Yan Zhigao’s probing, he was fluent and even managed to break out some of his own views, to Yan Zhigao’s great surprise and delight.
Old Madam Yan, on the other hand, held Daomang in her arms on the couch, affectionately stroking the little girl’s head, and keeping Daohua close, she said, "This girl, she resembles you so much when you were little."
The little girl was endearing, affectionately calling the great ancestor again and again, amusing Old Madam Yan so much that she smiled from ear to ear and couldn’t bear to let go of the little girl.
Daomiao was cuddled in Madam Li’s arms, squinting his eyes in contentment as he enjoyed his maternal grandmother’s feeding; he wasn’t chatty, but he didn’t miss out on any benefits.
If there were elders giving gifts to his brother or sister, his big eyes would ’swoosh’ and look their way immediately.
That eagerly hopeful little look was such that if anyone considered leaving him out, it would be criminal.
Later, Daohua gave gifts to the family’s nephews and nieces, then had Daozi take the twins and their cousins out to play.
Truly, the fourth generation of the Yan Family was thriving; Daohua couldn’t help but marvel at the sight.
Daohua’s brothers and sisters added up to twelve, all of whom were now married, and the progeny of Daozi’s generation numbered up to twenty or thirty.
For this, Yan Zhigao was extremely pleased, a plentiful lineage being a sign of a family’s prosperity.
Once the children left, the room immediately quieted down a lot; the adults seated together with the women chatting about domestic matters, while the men discussed external affairs.
Having not returned for many years, Daohua naturally intended to stay overnight at her parental home.
After dinner, Daohua, holding Old Madam Yan’s arm, said, "Grandmother, I want to sleep with you tonight." The grandmother was getting old, and she wanted to spend more time with her; this return to Beijing was for the Emperor’s grand celebration, and who knew when the next visit would be.
Old Madam Yan also missed Daohua dearly, but still said, "Already the mother of three children, how come you are still like a little girl? If you stay with me, what about Yeyang and Daozi?"
Daohua laughed, "Are you saying our family doesn’t have a place for the father and his sons to sleep?" Saying this, she rubbed her head against Old Madam Yan’s shoulder, "I just want to sleep with Grandmother."
Old Madam Yan loved her granddaughter’s affection and seeing that Xiao Yeyang did not object, she did not refuse any further.
"Father, mother has the great ancestor, and now you are out of favor."
Daozi whispered to Xiao Yeyang.
Xiao Yeyang glanced sideways at Daozi: "Daring to jest with your old man now, has your boldness grown, or is your skin itching for trouble? Tomorrow at half past 5:00 AM, you will get up and stand in the horse stance for a while longer."
Daozi’s face instantly fell.
Seeing her brother chastised, little miss Daomang hurriedly wrapped her arms around her dad’s neck and whispered, "Dad, don’t be afraid, if mom doesn’t want you anymore, I’ll be with you, don’t be sad."
Looking at his daughter’s adorable manner, Xiao Yeyang playfully pinched her little nose and said indulgently, "Truly, daddy’s good girl."
Just then, Xiao Yeyang felt a tug on his robe, and looking down, he saw his little son gazing up at him, and said with a chuckle, "You too are daddy’s good boy."
Hearing this, Daomiao smiled contentedly and let go of his father’s robe.
Everyone sat for a while longer in the old lady’s room before retiring to their own rooms to rest.
Daohua was very confident in leaving the three little ones with Xiao Yeyang, so she stood up and escorted Yan Zhigao and Madam Li back to the main courtyard.
Back in the main courtyard, Madam Li then took the opportunity to ask Daohua about many things; with so many people during the day, many topics were not suitable for conversation. Knowing her daughter’s nature to share only good news and not troubles, she was very concerned about whether her daughter had truly been comfortable these years?
