Chapter 921: Chapter 921: The Little Thing with Poison in Itself_1
"Let’s not talk about the Illusion Continent for now; let’s discuss this place first. There are many, many demons here. However, there are also many caves like this one. The Prince Lin we’re looking for is probably hiding in one of these caves, wondering if he has been reduced to a human jerky out of hunger."
She said.
"That... Prince Lin wouldn’t have been... been eaten by those monsters outside, would he?"
Commander Mo could not bring himself to complete the sentence. He dared not make wild guesses about Prince Lin’s fate as if he did not value his own head.
"You needn’t worry about that, Prince Lin is definitely alive," Lin Caisang said, her red lips curling into a smile.
To lure them to White Blind Mountain, there had to be a living bait. If Prince Lin was indeed dead and they realized there was no one to find, what if they didn’t fall into the trap set by the person behind it all?
"How do you know that?" asked Commander Mo.
"Commander Mo, if you shouldn’t ask, then don’t ask."
Zhen Wu raised his hand, patted Commander Mo on the shoulder, and gripped hard with his fingers.
"Just like those royal secrets you mentioned earlier, we won’t spread them either, understand?"
Commander Mo: "..."
Did they think he wanted to reveal the secrets he had overheard? He just wanted to leave this cursed place alive!
...
Not long after, Zhe Jue came back with a few people, each of them stained with spots of blood, and the smell of blood was quite strong.
"My lord, miss, those fierce storks are really hard to kill, but there are also some small creatures on White Blind Mountain that are quite easy to hunt." Watching the few people pile up the game, Zhe Jue addressed his master and mistress.
But in this moment, Lin Caisang was frowning, raising her hand to cover her mouth and nose.
"Zhe Jue, throw these things out," she said, looking at the game that people had tossed aside.
"Why?"
Zhe Jue asked, puzzled.
They had just managed to hunt them at great risk; why throw them away? It felt like such a waste.
"Is the blood on you from these creatures as well?" Instead of answering his question, Lin Caisang asked a question of her own.
"No, it’s from the fierce storks. A few of us together killed a solitary one, but it was all spines, so we didn’t bring it back, only these small creatures," Zhe Jue replied.
Though they didn’t actually know what the small creatures were called.
"So..."
Lin Caisang glanced at the small game mentioned by Zhe Jue, and then back at Zhe Jue.
"You’ve thrown away the edible meat of the fierce stork and brought back these small poisonous creatures instead?" she said quietly.
Although she too wouldn’t eat the flesh of demon storks that feasted on human flesh, those poisonous creatures were equally intolerable for her, weren’t they?
"What? Poisonous?!"
The moment they heard that, everyone immediately distanced themselves from the breathless creatures.
"Quick, throw them out, throw them out!" Commander Mo urgently commanded upon hearing they were poisonous.
"You’re not helping yet? Get those dang things out of here before we all get poisoned to death!"
After a flurry of activity, all the poisonous creatures were cleared out of the cave, thrown far away, and Zhe Jue and the others returned reluctantly.
Because they realized that after all their effort, they hadn’t brought back anything edible.
White Blind Mountain is indeed toxic—a place where things that look edible are poisonous, and things that look inedible... are actually also inedible, for they were all raised on human flesh.
