Chapter 1882: Chapter 1882: Tortured Too Many People to Death

"The Empress Dowager sent her nanny to deliver a message, the gist of which was that it was about time for the Emperor to step down."

"Since that’s the case, then I shall lend the Empress Dowager a hand," said the Empress, her lips curling into a malevolent smile as she whispered to herself.

...

Soon after the rumors of the imminent marriage between Prince Mo’s Mansion and the Commandery Princess of Liang Kingdom, another rumor spread throughout Shaohua City. It was said that the Emperor had shown favor to a palace maid in his sleeping chamber, then tortured her to death.

The moment this news came out, it caused a sensation in Shaohua City.

Before long, the court officials all submitted petitions, asking the Emperor to clarify the facts or to actively admit his mistake.

Although everyone knew that the Imperial Family would never admit to making any mistakes, this particular error was too egregious.

And the ’mistake’ in the minds of the officials was certainly not the fact that the Emperor had tortured a mere palace maid to death — such a minor incident.

But why had such a minor incident been blown out of proportion?

In one day’s time, every alley and street in Shaohua City was abuzz with discussions about the Emperor torturing a palace maid to death!

The Emperor, listening to the admonishments of his officials and thinking about how he was being portrayed by the people, felt his rage skyrocket.

He knew exactly who would dare to challenge him so openly.

Aside from the mother of Sui Zilin, whom he had nearly poisoned to death, his Empress, who else would wish for his demise?

Yet, frustratingly, he could do nothing to her, since he still remembered the cloak-clad person’s instructions to leave the Empress be, as they still had use for her.

Therefore, facing the Empress’s covert attacks behind his back, all he could do was temporarily endure them.

What he didn’t know was that the cloak-clad person had already been captured by Zimo and the others; if he had known this, he wouldn’t have had to suffer so grievously.

"Why must those two creatures insist on opposing me? What benefit do they gain from opposing me?" he raged in frustration, yet had nowhere to vent his anger. Desiring to find a woman to torture extensively, he was reminded by the court officials of the rumors about him already circulating within Shaohua City.

All he could do was grind his teeth in fury.

Unable to act, he nearly succumbed to an internal injury from the stifled rage.

...

Prince Mo’s Mansion.

Upon receiving the news of the Emperor torturing someone to death, Lin Caisang sympathized with the palace maid, but Zimo appeared unsurprised.

"What, Brother Molian, from your expression, has he not tortured many people to death?" she asked, furrowing her brows.

"Heh."

Zimo let out a light chuckle.

Many people? These were indeed not words with a pleasant connotation.

"It should be said, he has tortured far too many, all within his sleeping chamber; it’s just that this time, the news happened to leak out, nothing more," he said.

"Certainly not a good Emperor," Lin Caisang commented dismissively.

"So, since the news has leaked, will the Emperor make any moves?" she inquired.

Hearing this, Zimo shook his head.

"No," he said.

He hadn’t acted against the Empress before, and he wouldn’t now either.

The rumors were already rampant in Shaohua City. If he were to act against the Empress at this time, the consequences would be more than he could bear. Not just the officials, but the common people too, would want to drag that person down from the Emperor’s throne.
