Chapter 1866: Chapter 1866: Don’t Touch This Woman
"Idiot!"
The cloaked figure cursed upon hearing his words.
That idiot really was disobedient, daring to defy the master’s wishes—then he deserved to never return!
"I warn you, if you dare harm Sui Zimo again, I will send you to pave his way in hell first!"
His sinister gaze rested on the emperor as he spoke in a haunting tone.
The emperor was genuinely frightened by the cloaked figure’s words, shrinking his neck and daring not to say a word.
Yet, in his heart, he felt quite indignant; after all, he hadn’t done anything and had simply followed the previous cloaked figure’s orders to strike at Sui Zimo when he was on his way to the border for a marriage alliance.
But now, in front of this cloaked figure, things seemed to have changed.
What on earth was going on!
"I... I dare not," said the emperor.
He knew that now was not the time to voice the doubts in his heart, so he quickly nodded, indicating that he would obey.
"Hmph!"
The cloaked figure snorted coldly.
"What is the situation here now, so messy, what happened?" he asked.
Upon hearing this, the emperor recounted how the previous cloaked figure had given him the poisoned garment and then told him of the subsequent events involving Sui Zilin and the empress.
"That’s how it is, and now the empress has allied with Sui Zimo, wanting my kingdom. Master, now that you have come, you must... uh, not, have those vile women killed," the emperor said.
He was about to say that he wanted Sui Zimo dead, but as the words reached his lips and he remembered the cloaked figure’s warning, he changed what he was about to say.
If Sui Zimo could not be killed, then taking his anger out on that vile woman the empress should be permissible, right?
And incidentally make Sui Zilin realize who held the absolute authority in the Wei State, reminding him not to forget his place in the hierarchy between ruler and subject!
"The empress..."
The cloaked figure, having heard his words, merely narrowed his eyes.
"Do not touch this woman," he commanded after a long while.
"What?!"
The emperor thought he had misheard.
Sui Zimo was off-limits, but why was the despicable empress off-limits too?
Could it be that this woman, too, possessed some unknown special status? But that was impossible; she was a genuine Shaohua City native!
"Master, why is this..."
He looked at the cloaked figure, murmuring his question.
"Are you questioning me?"
The sharp gaze of the cloaked figure pinned the emperor in place.
"No, no, I would not dare," the emperor quickly shook his head.
How could he dare to question the cloaked figure? He was merely confused as to why suddenly this person was off-limits and that person was off-limits too?
"Is it that difficult to do what I have ordered?" the cloaked figure interrogated him.
"No, it’s not difficult, not in the slightest," the emperor could only shake his head again.
Yet, his heart was in turmoil; why should he have to tread on such thin ice within his own palace, his own kingdom?
"As the mighty emperor of a nation, you should clear your head instead of always focusing on women," the cloaked figure scoffed, speaking to him.
Then, without waiting for him to say anything further, he vanished in a flash.
...
Another ten or so days passed.
Everything was unnaturally tranquil, making one wonder if the emperor was biding his time to brew some mischief.
Because over these days, all assassination attempts had vanished as if they never existed, leaving Lin Caisang disappointed with her initial desire to go on a rampage, taking down all those who had harmed her Brother Molian.
