Chapter 1813: Chapter 1813: Not Even a Single Copper Coin Left After the Search
"You..."
"Nonsense."
Just as Yang Lin was about to speak, she was silenced by the Elder Princess.
"What nonsense are you spouting, child? With your aunt here, who could bully you? Am I, the Elder Princess of the Liang Kingdom, a fake?"
"Sister-in-law..."
"Lin, stop crying now. Crying cannot solve any problems. Tell us, besides those five hundred taels of silver, what else did your family ask for?"
The Elder Princess looked at Yang Lin and asked.
"This..."
Upon hearing her question, Yang Lin’s face flushed with shame, and she glanced at her husband.
"Elder sister, I have no idea where my mother-in-law got the news, but she found out about Sangsang’s shop in the county and had the audacity to demand it from us. She wants our parents to give Sangsang’s shop to them," Lin Baiyi said with a heavy sigh.
He of course knew that his mother-in-law was daydreaming. Not to mention the rest of his family, even he himself would never agree to it.
"And about those five hundred taels of silver, not a single copper coin less, we must deliver it within three days. Where would I find so much silver? I refused on the spot."
But after the refusal, what she said became even harsher. He pursed his lips and did not know how to continue.
"My mother also said that if we don’t give the silver and the shop, she will come to our house and take people by force. Since I have given birth to four sons for the Lin Family, at least one of them must carry the Yang Family name," Yang Lin said warily, eyeing Lin Laogeng and Lu Qiubo.
"My elder brother said that if he doesn’t have the money to marry those two women who are pregnant with his children, he will make either my Song’er or Bai’er live under his roof and be his sons in the future," she continued, knowing that this was a mere threat. Her mother and brother wouldn’t actually raise a child who was not their own grandson or son.
But hearing these words truly frightened her.
Her elder brother, not much different from a bandit, was really capable of doing anything.
What if one day he actually came and took Song’er and Bai’er away?
"They dare!"
Lin Laogeng slammed his chopsticks down on the table, his face red with anger.
"Grandpa, please calm down first. The Yang Family is just trying to scare Third Aunt with these words; they wouldn’t dare to actually do it," Lin Caisang quickly went behind Lin Laogeng and patted his chest to comfort him.
The Yang Family wouldn’t really dare to do such a thing; they were just blustering.
"Sangsang, what do you think we should do about this?" Lin Laogeng turned to his granddaughter and asked.
He regretted allowing his son and daughter-in-law to visit Yang Family Village; now, it had only caused him angst.
"Grandpa, please wait a moment, I still have more questions for Third Uncle and Third Aunt," Lin Caisang said, turning to Lin Baiyi.
"Sangsang, ask whatever you want," Lin Baiyi spoke to his niece, even though he truly wasn’t in the mood for conversation.
Still, they had to discuss these matters openly at home; otherwise, if the Yang Family really caused an uproar at their doorstep, they would be even less sure how to handle it.
"Third Uncle, how could you return in such a wretched state? What about the ox cart, and the silver you took with you?" Lin Caisang inquired.
"The ox cart was taken and sold by that whole family yesterday while your Third Aunt and I were still asleep; we couldn’t stop them. As for the silver..." Lin Baiyi took a deep breath.
"Today, when we wanted to return, your Third Aunt’s elder brother, along with Changfeng’s maternal grandmother and a few others from their family, restrained me. They thoroughly searched me and took every last copper coin before letting us leave."
