Chapter 1782: Chapter 1782: How Did He Die?
The boss at that time had lavished Old Lady Yang with praise and even rewarded her with three taels of silver.
But that person wasn’t called Lin Baizhong, it seems he was called something like Su Zhengzhong,"
she said.
"Old Lady Yang?"
Almost as soon as she heard the name Su Zhengzhong, Lin Caisang was certain that it was indeed her father, Lin Baizhong.
"Where is this Old Lady Yang?"
Although in her heart she was convinced that Su Zhengzhong was Lin Baizhong, specifics still had to be clarified.
"Old Lady Yang hasn’t been in our trade for a long time now, I heard she went to live in Tiancheng. Perhaps she struck it rich," the amiable broker said in a sour tone to her.
Tiancheng was a place where people like them, who worked for others and earned wages, couldn’t afford to live.
Moreover, she had heard that Old Lady Yang had even bought a house in Tiancheng.
A house, oh, that required a significant sum of money. She had no idea where Old Lady Yang got the silver to buy a house in Tiancheng. Just the thought of it filled her with envy!
"Tiancheng?"
Hearing the broker’s words, Lin Caisang glanced at Sui Zimo.
Zimo’s gaze, however, went straight to Zhe Jue, signaling him to find this person.
"Perhaps I should be the one to look for her,"
finally spoke Uncle San, who had been silent and hadn’t done any real work up until now.
They couldn’t possibly be expected to handle everything while he just watched from the sidelines, could they?
"No need, Uncle San,"
Zhe Jue denied his offer with a shake of his head towards both Sui Zimo and Lin Caisang.
"My lord, Miss Lin, I have already inquired about it. Old Lady Yang did not go to Tiancheng, but rather, she died a long time ago, just four years after bringing those men back from Lotus Commandery.
It was hardly two months after Wanling Agency sold those people that Old Lady Yang was silenced. By now, it’s likely not even her bones remain."
"Hiss!"
The two brokers inhaled sharply upon hearing his words.
Old Lady Yang was dead? Then who exactly had they been envying all these years, a dead person?
Wasn’t this too frightening?
"Dead?"
Lin Caisang frowned.
"How did she die?" she asked.
"She was likely silenced by someone sent by the boss of Wanling Agency. In secret, the agency deals in some unsavory business, selling people who shouldn’t be sold and perhaps even trading with those one shouldn’t deal with,"
Zhe Jue explained while glancing at the two brokers.
"Probably the people Old Lady Yang bought ended up in such places that she could no longer be allowed to live."
"How could this happen?"
The two brokers were so frightened they nearly clung to each other.
There were always some at Wanling Agency who mysteriously made a fortune, or had a relative pass away, leaving them all their wealth.
So these brokers believed that being able to work at Wanling Agency was a testament to their abilities.
Perhaps they would become rich like those people someday.
How could they have imagined that those so-called ’fortunate ones’ were already dead?
Wasn’t it odd that no one had seen those who supposedly made their fortune again? Turns out, they were all dead, buried in unmarked graves, weren’t they?
Was there anything more terrifying than hearing such ghastly news?
"It seems that Wanling Agency isn’t as great as others say it is."
