Chapter 1723: Chapter 1723: Your Father’s Subordinate Named San
Lin Caisang: "..."
What more could she say?
"It’s alright, so many years have passed by, one more day won’t matter."
"What would you like to eat? I’ll cook it for you," Sui Zimo asked immediately.
"Anything is fine, as long as it’s made by you, I’ll love it," Lin Caisang replied.
"Alright."
Sui Zimo responded and then, taking Zhe Jue with him, went to the kitchen.
"My lord, is there something you haven’t told Miss Lin?" Once in the kitchen, Zhe Jue asked in a hushed voice.
"Let Sang’er rest for now, I’ll talk to her about it tomorrow."
Sui Zimo said calmly and then began to chop the vegetables.
"Light the fire."
"Yes."
Zhe Jue responded and fell silent.
...
Early the next morning.
The sky was still dark, and Lin Caisang, troubled by thoughts, awoke.
After getting up, she went to the yard and saw that Sui Zimo and Zhe Jue were already out, and all the things they needed for their journey had been prepared.
"Brother Molian, you’re up early."
"Knowing you wouldn’t be able to sleep, we’ll have breakfast in a bit and then set off early. I’ve prepared a carriage so we can reach Lotus Commandery by tonight," Sui Zimo said as he glanced at the carriage he had readied.
"Mhmm."
Lin Caisang nodded.
...
"Brother Molian, who’s driving the carriage?"
Zhe Jue rode with them inside the carriage, but Lin Caisang had not met the person outside driving the carriage.
By his attire, he seemed to be a commoner from Pan village, but then again, not quite; it puzzled her, and she asked Sui Zimo.
"He’s one of your father’s subordinates, called San. You can just call him Uncle San. These past years, he’s been looking for your father’s whereabouts," Sui Zimo explained.
"Hm?"
Lin Caisang furrowed her brows, looking at him intently.
"Brother Molian..."
"Sang’er, there was something I didn’t tell you last night."
Before she could ask anything, Sui Zimo took the initiative to speak.
"After your father disappeared, all his men died execpt for Uncle San, who was sent by your father to inspect the tunnels in the woods and thus escaped that calamity."
"All... all dead?"
Hearing this, goosebumps rose all over Lin Caisang’s body.
"Yes, all dead," Sui Zimo nodded.
"Apart from your father, whose whereabouts are unknown, all the others are dead, and the family that sheltered them was silenced, not sparing even the infants in their cradles."
Thinking of this, he gritted his teeth in fury; if he found out who was responsible, he would never let those inhumane people off!
"Damn it!"
Lin Caisang also couldn’t help but curse.
How utterly heartless must one be to not spare even infants in their cradles?
Even if there was concern that someone might recognize the killers, surely an infant wouldn’t have any memory, right?
To not even spare a child so small.
"What about that girl, how is she now?" she asked.
"According to Uncle San, he has been secretly inquiring these years and has visited Lotus Commandery numerous times," Sui Zimo said.
"That woman was married two years ago, but Uncle San mentioned, for some reason, that the once beautiful girl had a long scar across her face on the day she got married.
But because she is the only daughter of the commandant, she still lives in the commandant’s residence. It even seems that her husband lives there too, almost as if he’s been taken in by the family."
Lin Caisang: "..."
Such a woman could hardly be a good person, right?
