Chapter 1406: Chapter 1406: Is It Too Weird?

Otherwise, Madam Chen would not have possibly trusted a maid so much. From what he had inquired, Madam Chen took that maid with her wherever she went, especially in the recent months.

Even when she was locked up in the prison, that maid followed her inside.

"Hmm, you’re right."

Lin Caisang nodded, confirming his words.

"There is just one thing I’m still not sure about."

"Whether Madam Chen is dead or alive?" Sui Zimo finished her sentence for her.

Indeed, was Madam Chen already dead or still alive? Otherwise, how could she be completely cold, not even breathing?

"Hmm."

Lin Caisang nodded.

That was precisely her point. Whether Madam Chen was dead or alive was of utmost importance to them.

"Instead of asking whether Madam Chen is dead or alive, Sang’er, you might as well ask who was the person that came to Wuzhu Forest for help?" Sui Zimo reminded her.

Lin Caisang: "..."

There was simply no way to investigate that issue.

The regulations of the virtual task given by the Golden Pearl Command stated that anyone who entered the Wuzhu Forest could ask for their help, regardless of whether they were human or not.

And she, currently, did not have the perception to distinguish which of those people were humans and which were ghosts, demons, or spirits.

Naturally, she also didn’t know which one was their employer.

"I think we should first figure out who our employer actually is, don’t you agree, Brother Molian?" she said to Sui Zimo after a long while.

"Wait and see."

Sui Zimo replied to her in just three words.

...

An unsettled night passed just like that.

Strangely, after such an unrestful night, the next day was surprisingly calm. Even Grand Old Madam Chen, who typically would have loved to see Madam Chen die, did not trouble Madam Chen anymore.

And as the Old Madam who followed Grand Old Madam Chen, naturally, she would not dare go against her mother-in-law’s wishes to trouble Madam Chen.

Therefore, nothing happened in Madam Chen’s courtyard the next day.

Even the incident from the previous night was not brought up to Madam Chen; everyone assumed that Madam Chen knew about it, since after all, she was the one wielding a knife intending to kill Grand Old Madam Chen.

And Madam Chen herself...

It was as if she had no memory at all. She had no recollection of her shocking actions the previous night and continued to walk around the Chen Residence with her maid.

When facing the servants who looked at her with strange eyes, she would stare them down fiercely or even scold them.

All of this was observed by Lin Caisang and Sui Zimo, which made them even more certain of the strangeness surrounding Madam Chen. They didn’t go out to do anything, nor did they question the servants or maids again.

"Brother Molian, don’t you think Madam Chen is acting too strangely?" Lin Caisang asked Sui Zimo as if making light conversation.

She had seen with her own eyes the injuries inflicted on Madam Chen by Grand Old Madam Chen; the cuts were deep and the flesh was torn. And now, how long had it been? Barely two days had passed.

Yet she could already walk around the residence, and even her maid seemed to have no issues at all.

"When she went to commit the assassination last night, there were fewer people by her side," Sui Zimo said to her in a lowered voice.

Upon hearing this, Lin Caisang followed his gaze towards the maid by Madam Chen’s side, her eyes instantly sharpened.
