Chapter 1391: Chapter 1391: Holding a Grudge.

"I’ve said it before," Madam Chen spoke, "I seek Young Master Ya and Miss Lin to avenge me, and the terms, including the price, are all negotiable. Once I recover what is rightfully mine, I am willing to give half of it to the both of you as a reward."

Madam Chen said.

Hearing her words, Lin Caisang involuntarily furrowed her eyebrows.

For some reason, after hearing Madam Chen’s words, she felt particularly uncomfortable inside.

Could it be that in Madam Chen’s eyes, rather than seeking justice for her husband, all she wanted was to secure her inheritance? If that was the case...

Well, even if it was, she had to accept this mission anyway.

"Madam Chen, at Wuzhu Teahouse we conduct our business with certain principles. You have two options to choose from: First, if your husband was murdered, we will find his killer for you; second, regardless of whether your husband was murdered or not, we will seek the justice he deserves.

Choose one," Lin Caisang said.

"Aren’t those two... the same thing?" Madam Chen opened her mouth to retort.

"Similar enough," Lin Caisang responded, raising an eyebrow and nodding noncommittally.

Of course, these were the options given to her by the Golden Pearl Token, and now the choice lay with Madam Chen. It was her decision to make.

In truth, Lin Caisang felt that regardless of which option was chosen, the outcome would be the same.

"Then... I’ll choose the second," Madam Chen contemplated before responding.

After all, as long as she could find out whether her husband was murdered, finding the killer would certainly be ideal. But even if there was no killer to be found, as long as she could reclaim the justice that was hers, that would be sufficient.

Upon hearing this, the corners of Lin Caisang’s lips curled slightly, and she gave an almost imperceptible snort through her nose.

"Very well."

...

The Chen Family.

As the ones brought in by Madam Chen to investigate the cause of Old Master Chen’s death, Sui Zimo and Lin Caisang were extremely unwelcome.

From Grand Old Master Chen down to the gatekeeping servants, everyone looked at them with eyes as though poisoned as they entered.

"What’s going on?" Lin Caisang asked, glancing sidelong at Zimo with a puzzled expression.

Hadn’t Madam Chen just said she could still enter the Chen Residence, that the elders wouldn’t go so far as to have her chased out?

But then, why did these people look at them as if they wanted to devour them?

"Grudge," was Zimo’s succinct conclusion.

Of course, it wasn’t a grudge against them, but rather against Madam Chen.

Despite the poisoned looks from those people, when Madam Chen looked their way, their eyes began to dart about, avoiding contact. The expressions were quite telling.

"We’ll talk about it later."

"Hmm," Lin Caisang acknowledged quietly.

She also felt that now wasn’t the right time for a discussion, but her curiosity had gotten the better of her, prompting her to ask Zimo directly.

"What are you lot standing around for? Didn’t you see that I, your mistress, have brought guests? Hurry up and prepare the guest rooms!" Madam Chen, infuriated at the silence of the servants upon her return, pointed at them and commanded sharply.

"Yes, right away..."

"Shameless woman, what devilry are you up to now!" Before a servant could finish responding, a stern voice interrupted.

The servant, frightened, shrank back, scurrying behind the elder who had shouted at Madam Chen, while casting resentful glances toward her from a safe distance.

"Grand Old Master Chen, the madam, she..."

With a raise of her hand, the Grand Old Master Chen silenced him.
