Chapter 1353: Chapter 1353: Getting Along So Well?

"Uh-huh."

Ya Enxi nodded.

...

Ya Village.

In the very center of the place, Ya Yufeng and Nangong Piao’er followed Ya Jinghong straight into a family’s home, both watching as Ya Jinghong walked inside.

"Why would he come here?"

Nangong Piao’er looked at Ya Yufeng with eyes full of confusion.

This courtyard was all too familiar to them; it was where Ya Jinghong’s parents lived. Wasn’t it said that Ya Jinghong and Ban Yilu were disliked by the senior couple and had been driven out?

This was also something they had personally experienced. So how come now, after having a fight with Ban Yilu, Ya Jinghong would come to his parents’ place?

"I’ll stay here and keep watch. You go in and have a look," Ya Yufeng said to Nangong Piao’er.

As a man, he naturally wanted to go inside and see for himself, but regrettably, his skills were not as good as his wife’s. He was afraid of being found out by the people inside, which would lead to more trouble than it was worth.

So he could only ask his wife to step in.

"Alright."

Nangong Piao’er responded and swiftly slipped inside.

In the main room of Ya Jinghong’s family home, the entire family was seated and eating. Seeing Ya Jinghong enter, Father Ya was the first to show displeasure. He slapped his chopsticks on the table and glared at him.

"What are you back here for? What, you’ve run out of food at home so you’ve come here to take some?"

"I..."

"Enough, enough, what are you saying? This is your son," Mother Ya interjected immediately, standing up and walking toward Ya Jinghong.

"Jinghong, have you eaten yet? If not, sit down and eat with us. I cooked a bit too much today, it’s good that you’re here."

"No, there’s no need," Ya Jinghong said, curling his lip and glancing at his father.

Then, he fixed his gaze on Mother Ya, making it clear he was there to see her.

"Stepmother, I need to talk to you about something," he said to Mother Ya.

"Looking for me?"

Mother Ya glanced at her husband and then nodded at Ya Jinghong.

"Let’s go, we’ll talk in the yard," she said and led the way to the courtyard with Ya Jinghong following immediately.

"Hmph!"

Father Ya snorted coldly at Ya Jinghong from behind.

"Who would have thought, Ya Jinghong actually gets along quite well with his stepmother?" Nangong Piao’er muttered under her breath from her hiding spot.

Father Ya’s wife was not Ya Jinghong’s biological mother, but someone he remarried after the death of Ya Jinghong’s biological mother. It was said that she was a girl he picked up from outside the village, a pretty one at that, and Father Ya got quite a bargain. Many men in the village were envious.

However, what she couldn’t understand was that Father Ya seemed to despise his son so much just a moment ago.

Yet Mother Ya was so attentive toward Ya Jinghong, and Father Ya didn’t say a word. Could there be some hidden secret here?

"What’s going on with you, why did you come here at this time?" Mother Ya said, turning around and speaking in a hushed voice to Ya Jinghong as soon as they reached the yard.

"Stepmother, haven’t you heard that Ya Molian and Lin Caisang have returned?" Ya Jinghong asked her.

"How could I not have heard?"

The whole village had been talking all day about the gossip involving Sui Zimo and Lin Caisang, with all sorts of speculation.

"Did you and Yilu find out anything?" she asked, looking at Ya Jinghong.

"No."

Ya Jinghong immediately shook his head, indicating that they hadn’t.
