Chapter 1257: Chapter 1257: Waiting Here for So Long

"Thus, wanting to keep a handle on someone else in one’s own hands, that’s why he kept the person alive."

"Tsk."

Sui Zimo chuckled disdainfully.

This was indeed something the Emperor of Wei State could do, the lives and freedoms of others would hardly matter to him.

"So then, does Princess Consort Yi know where that child is now?" he asked, gazing steadily at Princess Consort Yi.

"I didn’t know before."

Princess Consort Yi lowered her head and said softly.

She was only responsible for sending the person into the imperial palace of Wei State; how would she know anything beyond that?

What’s more, Illusion Continent was a place for spiritual cultivation, but she was completely incapable of cultivating. She didn’t have any abilities, and perhaps that was why her master had sent her to Wei State.

She feared that her master had made up his mind that she would die in Wei State long before he sent her there.

But what her master could never have imagined was that the Emperor, wanting to keep an ace up his sleeve, would not have her killed but instead hid her away.

"Only... right after Prince Mo returned to Shaohua City last year, I fell gravely ill, and Wu’er also left my side, therefore... some things you just come to realize."

The Emperor feared she would make the connection to Sui Zimo and was thinking of rooting out the problem entirely!

"Princess Consort Yi, is that all you know?" Lin Caisang inquired when she seemed to have nothing more to say.

"That’s all. The rest isn’t something someone like me would know," Princess Consort Yi replied.

As for who the person her master had entrusted to her all those years ago was, whose child it was, how could she possibly know? She only knew to carry out the tasks her master had assigned, that was all.

"Really?"

Lin Caisang asked to confirm once more.

"True... There’s one more thing. Over these years, the Emperor should still have had contact with the people of Illusion Continent. I’ve seen cultivators in the royal palace before, and that person must have been there to meet with the Emperor."

Princess Consort Yi was about to say there was nothing more then remembered another matter.

Although she had mostly kept herself secluded within Prince Yi’s Mansion over the years, she still had to attend national banquets as Princess Consort Yi and enter the palace.

Others might not recognize a cultivator, but how could she, a person from Illusion Continent, fail to see it?

Upon hearing this, Sui Zimo just glanced indifferently at Princess Consort Yi.

He knew this detail long ago. If the Emperor had no contacts with people from Illusion Continent, how could he procure the antidote for the poison in his body?

Perhaps, the poison in his body wasn’t even administered by the Emperor?

"Very well, this prince understands."

He stood up, ready to leave with Lin Caisang.

"Miss Lin, the antidote for my wife..." Prince Yi quickly asked as they were about to leave.

"The antidote will be delivered tomorrow," Lin Caisang said as she turned back to glance at Prince Yi and Princess Consort Yi.

...

Inside Prince Mo’s Mansion.

"Empress Dowager, let me go check again. It’s nearly dark; surely Prince Mo should have returned to the mansion by now?"

After leaving the palace and not seeing Sui Zimo, the Empress Dowager had waited in Prince Mo’s Mansion and hadn’t left. Seeing this, the old nanny glanced at the sky before speaking.

"Wait."

The Empress Dowager didn’t give her a chance to leave, uttering two light words.

Did she truly come to Prince Mo’s Mansion to visit Sui Zimo? Or to seek medical help? If that were all, why bother with such trouble and wait for so long?
