Chapter 1143: Chapter 1143: Not a Single Liang Less!
"Elder Mr. Zhou, look at what you’re saying. If I give you some time, will my boss give me any time? My boss said that today we must take those people back, lest the night is long and dreams aplenty," she said with an implication.
She spoke with intent.
Elder Mr. Zhou had a surge of anger lodged in his throat. If one could truly spew blood from rage, he would probably have done so already.
"Granny Hua, must you press my Zhou family so?" he asked, angered.
"How am I pressing you? It is your Zhou family that is pressing me," Granny Hua replied, not at all bothered by his stern face as she casually flicked her wrist.
"Elder Mr. Zhou, here’s something you won’t like to hear. If your family really can’t make ends meet, then sell whatever needs to be sold. In business, one must honor their commitments. Is it over just by handing over these servant contracts to our pawnshop?
"Not one of the people listed here has my boss seen. Don’t tell me, Elder Mr. Zhou, you expect my boss to indulge in a losing trade?"
As she spoke, the thugs behind her rolled up their sleeves and began to menace the Zhou family members.
"This... "
"What do you think you’re doing?"
Madam Zhou, frightened by their demeanor, retreated.
"Don’t think you can throw your weight around here. This is the Zhou residence, not a place where you can do whatever you want. Whoever you gave silver to, go to them for your issues; what does this have to do with our Zhou family?"
"Humph."
Granny Hua snorted coldly upon hearing Madam Zhou’s words.
"Elder Mr. Zhou, from what your daughter-in-law is saying, it sounds like you’d like my boss to swallow this loss? Very well..."
"No, no, Granny Hua, please hear me out," Elder Mr. Zhou hurriedly interjected upon hearing this, shaking his head.
"Please, don’t go yet, don’t leave. I will surely give you and the pawnshop boss an explanation for this matter."
What he feared most now was that Granny Hua might leave and then return with even more people to hassle them. Then, his old bones would truly be broken here.
"Tsk."
Granny Hua clicked her tongue, looking down on Elder Mr. Zhou with disdain.
"Ha, you think I’m a fool? To leave now, so that you can run off faster than rabbits as soon as I’m out of sight? Hurry up and either produce the people or the silver. Five hundred taels, not one tael less!"
"What?!"
Upon hearing her words, not just Elder Mr. Zhou gasped sharply, even Old Master Zhou was startled.
"You’re robbing us! All for a few servants and maids? Worth five hundred taels? Who are you trying to fool?" Madam Zhou stomped her foot, confronting Granny Hua.
Five hundred taels of silver was a substantial sum that could buy many servants and maids.
"What’s the issue with those servants and maids? Isn’t that because your Madam Zhou here was short of silver, and my boss, in consideration of your face, offered a few more taels?" said Granny Hua.
"I didn’t expect that everyone in your Zhou family would be so tricky, to take the silver and then fail to deliver the people; do you really think my boss is easy to bully?
"Let me tell you, if today you can’t produce the silver or the people, you’ll have to leave your family’s lives behind!"
"Hiss!"
Elder Mr. Zhou inhaled sharply once again.
Though he was quite old, he didn’t wish to die like that, yet for money, the pawnshop owner indeed could do anything. To those people, killing one or two was really nothing at all.
