Chapter 1120: Chapter 1120: Really, It’s True!
"This bottle of wine is my own brew, priceless. After you check on Forensic Doctor Zeng outside, go have a few drinks with Old Chen. When you’re out investigating, you don’t need to avoid Forensic Doctor Zeng anymore."
She said.
"Alright, I’ll go now."
Constable Jin complied, taking the silver and wine and then left.
...
At dusk, at the entrance to the governmental office.
A young woman hurriedly arrived but was stopped by the gatekeeper.
"This is an important place, you can’t just barge in!"
"I’m looking for Forensic Doctor Zeng, I’m his wife," the woman said anxiously, looking into the governmental office at the guards.
"Forensic Doctor Zeng?"
The gatekeeper looked at the woman and frowned.
"Then you may go in."
With that, he gestured to his companion to let her into the governmental office.
The woman hadn’t expected to be let in so easily, and seeing that she could enter, she hurried in.
"Notify Constable Jin that she’s here."
After the woman entered, one of them then said to another.
"Alright, you stay here on guard, and I’ll go notify him."
With that, the gatekeeper followed the woman to another place to inform Constable Jin because they knew that he was working for Miss Lin, and they couldn’t afford to neglect him.
...
"What did you say?!"
Seeing the anxiety on his woman’s face, Forensic Doctor Zeng’s heart sank when he heard her words.
He had already seen Constable Jin getting close with Lin Caisang and taking a jar of fine wine to drink with Old Chen for a good while. As nightfall approached, Constable Jin had just left.
He was just about to ask Old Chen what exactly Constable Jin was inquiring about when his woman came to find him.
"Are you sure you didn’t see wrong, that it really was the constable from the governmental office asking about me near our home?" he asked again for confirmation.
"It’s true, really true!"
The woman quickly nodded her head and, fearing her husband wouldn’t believe her, hurriedly added a few more words.
"Although I don’t recognize everyone from the governmental office, I can recognize their uniform. How could I not recognize it? When I heard him asking our neighbors about us, my legs went weak, and I quickly shut the door.
But then I thought it wasn’t right, so I hurried over to tell you. My lord, has someone found out about what we did?"
She had taken a long time at home to gather her courage before coming to the governmental office to inform her man. Weren’t they already catching the person they were looking for? Why was there still someone inquiring about her husband’s affairs?
"If it really comes to it, shall we just run? We can still escape now, but if we wait any longer, it might be too late," she proposed with growing panic.
"What nonsense are you talking about? I’m a forensic doctor at the government office, and I’m paid a monthly salary," said Forensic Doctor Zeng, glancing at his wife.
Was he expected to give up such a good job and a home to live in and flee to wander abroad? He would never do such a thing.
He’d rather die here than do something so shameful.
Besides, things hadn’t gotten out of hand yet!
"You go back first, I’ll handle things here. Don’t worry, there won’t be any trouble," he reassured her.
Now, it was certain that the person inquiring about him near his home was Constable Jin.
And now, Constable Jin was following Lin Caisang. He had heard the Prefect instructing Constable Jin to accompany Lin Caisang on a stroll outside, and he had thought that young girl was all talk and no action.
