The Herbal Scents of Farm Life -
Chapter 1118: Found Out Clearly
Chapter 1118: Chapter 1118: Found Out Clearly
Alas, he had underestimated others and overestimated himself!
"Yes," Constable Jin nodded.
Shortly after, White Fox returned to Lin Caisang’s embrace.
As she had anticipated, there was no scent of poison anywhere in the house, which made her even more certain that the poisoner was not one of the two people who had been arrested.
"Miss Lin, you really are prescient," Constable Jin, standing by her side, couldn’t help but praise her.
Everyone was still caught up in the excitement, believing that the real culprit had been caught. Who would consider looking for someone else?
This showed that the poisoner was extremely malicious, framing others for their own benefit. But for someone who had already killed countless people, framing others was just adding one more death to their tally, something they were likely accustomed to by now, wasn’t it?
"Everyone has been deceived," Lin Caisang replied indifferently.
...
Afterward, the three of them did not visit another household because the answer was already clear. Further inquiries were unlikely to reveal anything new.
Lin Caisang and Sui Ziyou spent a long time strolling the streets and bought some items to take back with them.
Since they had said they were out shopping, it was only natural not to return empty-handed. Bringing nothing back would raise suspicions, wouldn’t it?
"Constable Jin, take these medicines to my place, and do it quickly," Lin Caisang instructed, with a meaningful look, as she patted the items on the carriage.
Constable Jin immediately understood her intent and nodded.
"Rest assured, Miss Lin, these herbs are of utmost importance; I will have them delivered right away. Come on, brothers, lend a hand and help move this."
As he spoke, he summoned the governmental office guards to help with moving the items.
It took quite a while.
After the last of the medicine was moved, Constable Jin thanked everyone.
"Thanks, everyone. I’ll treat you all to tea sometime," he said.
"Old Jin, don’t be ridiculous. What tea? We can’t let you pay out of your own pocket, we’re just doing what we’re supposed to," one of them said with a laugh, waving his hand dismissively.
"Then thank you," he replied, bowing with clasped hands to them.
Wiping the sweat from his brow, he then went back into the temporary pharmacy where Lin Caisang was.
"Miss Lin, I have found out everything," he said.
"What did you find?"
Lin Caisang lifted her head from among the pile of herbs and asked.
"Because of the poisoning incident in our county, the manpower at the governmental office has been stretched thin, so the gatekeepers were working in shifts. The few who helped me carry the items just now were the ones who were guarding the gate when the Eldest Prince’s guards brought people over," Constable Jin explained in a rush, taking a breath before continuing.
"According to them, they did indeed encounter Forensic Doctor Zeng that day, coincidentally at the time when those dozen or so people had been brought in.
Normally, such a trivial matter wouldn’t be remembered, since Forensic Doctor Zeng is a governmental office official and coming and going is routine. But coincidentally, that day, one of the Eldest Prince’s guards, for some reason, got diarrhea.
After bringing the people to the gate of the office, he couldn’t hold it any longer and handed over those dozen or so people to Forensic Doctor Zeng, who just happened to be passing by."
"Who would’ve thought Forensic Doctor Zeng was such a capable man? Wherever there is a shortage in the governmental office, he seems to be able to fill in," Lin Caisang said with a slight curl of her lips, laughing sarcastically.
