Chapter 1113: Chapter 1113: Who Allowed You to Eat?
"Then, the people you’re suspecting, have they shown any activities?" Lin Caisang asked.
"No."
The Eldest Prince shook his head.
"However, we can’t deny the possibility that they might have committed the crime. After all, soldiers can only secretly track them. If they intend to evade the soldiers’ surveillance, it’s possible."
Especially if they already knew someone was watching them, it became even more likely that they continued to harm the people of Wan County in the shadows.
"Eldest Prince, first command your men to secretly bring those people to the county office. If they truly have touched the poison, I have my ways of making them reveal their true colors," Lin Caisang said.
"Alright," replied the Eldest Prince and immediately ordered his men to do so.
...
Soon, more than a dozen people were brought into the county office, including two women.
But I must say, they all looked quite wretched. Even when they’d been brought into the county office, their eyes wandered suspiciously to the sides, a very shifty appearance indeed.
"Sister-in-law, these people look nothing like good folks at first glance. Are you sure you can pick out the one who poisoned from so many?" Sui Ziyou whispered to Lin Caisang, keeping her voice low.
To her, none of these people seemed innocent; all deserved to be arrested and thrown into prison.
"Who said the poisoner was definitely among them?" Lin Caisang replied, glancing sideways and smiling at Sui Ziyou.
The Eldest Prince had only mentioned that these people were quite suspicious. According to the thinking of the Eldest Prince and the county magistrate, the people they had arrested were undoubtedly heinous but were individuals they couldn’t legally punish.
Maybe the poisoner wasn’t among them after all.
"What?" Sui Ziyou was taken aback.
"Then why did you ask the Eldest Prince to bring them here? With so many people being taken to the county office, even if it’s done covertly, the news might leak, right?"
Wouldn’t this arouse the poisoner’s suspicion?
What if the poisoner realized someone was on their trail and went into hiding, how long would they have to wait here then?
"Is leaking the news a bad thing?" Lin Caisang asked with a smile, responding with a question of her own.
"Is it?" Sui Ziyou echoed the question.
She felt utterly perplexed about what her sister-in-law was thinking, much like her cousin whose mind was filled with too many schemes, unfathomable to others.
"Let’s not worry about whether it’s good or bad for now."
Lin Caisang then took out a White Fox from her Jinzhu space, cradling it in her arms.
Next, she pulled out the vial of toxic blood she had been carrying, opened the lid, and placed it on the stone table in the backyard. She then placed the White Fox on the table and let it sniff the poison’s scent.
The next moment...
A ’slap’ sound.
A palm was struck directly onto the nimble forehead of the White Fox.
The White Fox shook its head a few times, its innocent eyes looking at Lin Caisang as if asking, "Master, why? Isn’t this for me to eat?"
"I told you to smell it, who let you eat it?" Lin Caisang said, annoyed, her hand almost striking the White Fox’s head again.
"That’s poison. You think it’s a tonic? Be careful it doesn’t kill you, and you’ll never see your mate again! Remember its scent," she commanded.
The little White Fox seemed to understand Lin Caisang’s words and dared not eat it, only sniffing vigorously at the mouth of the porcelain bottle.
