Chapter 84: [Volume 1] Chapter 84- Cheating?
Jay, always the one with the shortest fuse, practically exploded as soon as he entered the room. "What the hell is going on here?"
The loudness of his voice snapped Esme awake. Disoriented and groggy, her head pounded as she tried to make sense of the scene in front of her. Aron was standing beside her, still looking concerned, while her husbands—Jay, Ray, and Kai—stood there, faces twisted in anger.
Confusion mixed with the throbbing pain in her head. She struggled to keep up with what was happening, but irritation kicked in almost immediately. She was already feeling miserable, and now this?
"What the hell are you shouting about?" she asked, her voice thick with frustration as she pressed a hand to her temple, trying to ease the pain. "Do you seriously think this is the time to start yelling?"
The room fell into a tense silence for a moment, her words slicing through the air. Her husbands looked thrown off, not expecting her to snap back. Jay, who had been the loudest, hesitated for a second, his anger flickering into something like uncertainty.
"You’re shouting at *me* after committing such a horrible thing?" Jay yelled, his voice filled with rage.
Kai, sensing the escalating tension, quickly hurried over and shut the door. He didn’t want any of the servants to hear what was happening inside. The room felt suffocating, the air thick with misunderstanding.
Jay’s eyes blazed with anger as he turned back towards Esme and Aron. "What the hell are you two doing in here alone like this?" he shouted again, his voice trembling with fury. "Don’t tell me I’m misunderstanding things, because this time, we *saw* it with our own eyes!"
The accusation hung in the air, heavy and filled with suspicion, as Jay’s glare bore into both of them.
"Excuse me?" Esme interrupted, her voice cutting through the room. "Wait a second. Why are you all looking at me like that? What did you just say? You think *I’m* shouting? My voice is calm, Jay. The one who’s been shouting here is you. And honestly, can you just stop? What the hell do you mean by asking why I’m in this room? What do you think is going on, huh? Are you all doubting me now?"
Jay’s anger flickered, but he hesitated, trying to gather his thoughts. "I’m not... doubting you," he stammered. "But just tell me what the hell is happening here. If you’re so sure, then explain it. What’s going on?"
Esme, whose head had been throbbing with pain, finally snapped. Her patience had reached its limit. "Oh, so that’s what you think? Fine. You’re right! You want the truth? Yes, this is exactly what’s happening. We’re *doing it*. Are you happy now? Is there anything else you need from me?"
Her words dripped with sarcasm and bitterness, and for a moment, the room fell into a tense silence.
The brothers, already fuming, couldn’t contain their fury any longer. One of them shouted back at her, voice thick with disgust. "How *disgusting*," the words echoed around the room.
"How can you cheat us?" Jay shouted, his voice trembling with anger.
Hearing that, Esme couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. "Excuse me? Cheating? Me?" She crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "Maybe because I call you *darling* and you all call me *wife*, you’ve forgotten something important. But let me remind you—this is a *contract marriage*. There’s no real bond here, no vows, nothing. So legally, I owe you nothing—no explanations for my actions."
She stepped forward, her frustration evident. "And what gives you the right to barge in here, shouting at me? Yesterday it was Ray, now it’s you guys. What’s going on in this house? Why are you all so worked up? Even if this person was my lover, *so what*? What claim do you have on me?"
"So you mean, you just barge a mistress into our house and want us to stay silent, not even shouting or even wanting to say?" Jay shouted at Esme, the soundproofing of the room ensuring that no one outside could hear, otherwise the whole house would hear their voices.
Her voice dropped, her tone sharp as a blade. "How can anyone be my ’mistress’ when you’re not even legal husbands?"
"You know what? You’re not going to believe me, no matter what I say. So I don’t give a damn anymore. You all just want a child from me. I just want to destroy Valhale—that’s all. We don’t have any relationship beyond this contract, and honestly? I don’t care about anything more or less than that."
Her words sliced through the tension in the room, leaving the brothers momentarily speechless. Jay clenched his fists, struggling to process her cold dismissal. Ray, taken aback, opened his mouth to argue, but Esme continued, her gaze unwavering.
"I’m done pretending there’s something more here. I’m not interested in your expectations or your accusations. I’m here to do what I need to do, and that’s it."
"Very well," Kai, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up. "But you should know that the contract clearly states the first child will be born by us, not anyone else. So before you think about getting your mistress pregnant, how about giving us a chance? We want to be part of this too." His words struck a chord in the tense atmosphere, challenging Esme’s resolve.
Esme’s eyes narrowed as she met Kai’s gaze. "Are you serious? If this is just about fulfilling obligations, then let’s be straightforward. From now on, you won’t interfere with anything I do, and I won’t interfere with you. We’ll just fulfill the contract."
Her words hung in the air, a clear boundary drawn. The brothers exchanged uncertain glances, caught off guard by her boldness.
Kai opened his mouth to protest, but Jay interrupted, "It doesn’t work like that, Esme. You also stated that you would make the Aron group strong and protect us from the Elders and everyone around. Until we give birth to the child, you’re expected to protect us."
