Chapter 71: [Volume 1] Chapter 71- Useless fool

The tension in the Valhalle mansion was palpable, the walls seeming to reverberate with the anger and hostility swirling through the room. The heavy thud of objects crashing to the floor echoed like gunshots, as Mrs. Valhalle’s enraged voice filled the space.

Diana stood frozen in front of the table, her body tense, shoulders squared as if bracing for impact. On the other side, Mrs. Valhalle was a storm of fury, pacing back and forth with clenched fists, her face twisted in rage. The air between them crackled, thick with accusations and disappointment.

Without warning, Mrs. Valhalle snatched up an ashtray from the table. Her eyes flashed dangerously as she hurled it toward Diana with brutal force.

Clank.

The sharp sound of the ashtray connecting with Diana’s head was followed by a sickening silence, interrupted only by Diana’s soft groan of pain. She stumbled back, instinctively clutching her head, feeling the warmth of blood begin to seep through her fingers.

Her breath hitched, but she bit back any cry, swallowing the pain like a bitter pill. Her eyes flickered with hurt, but she didn’t dare raise her gaze.

"Diana!" Mr. Valhalle’s voice broke through the stunned silence. He rushed to his daughter’s side, his face pale with fear.

"What are you doing, woman? Are you trying to kill her?" His voice shook with disbelief and anger as he hovered protectively over Diana, shielding her from his wife’s wrath.

Mrs. Valhalle’s eyes blazed as she whipped around to face him, her voice cold and unrelenting.

"Yes, I will kill this woman!" she spat, her hand shaking with fury as she pointed at Diana. "This useless daughter of yours doesn’t even know how to run a business!"

Mr. Valhalle looked at his wife, his brows furrowing in disbelief. He then glanced at Diana, who was trembling, blood slowly dripping onto the polished floor, staining the pristine marble. His heart twisted at the sight of her. He turned back to his wife, his voice rising with emotion.

"You can’t just hit her like that. She’s your daughter!"

"Shut up!" Mrs. Valhalle’s voice cut through the air like a knife, her chest heaving with rage. Her face was flushed, her eyes narrowing into slits. "Do you even know what the hell has happened?"

Diana flinched at her mother’s venomous tone but remained silent, her head still bowed in shame, blood dripping from her hand onto the floor. She felt the sting of humiliation more than the pain in her head.

Mrs. Valhalle took a step closer to her husband, her finger stabbing toward Diana with every word. "Our stock has been plummeting—because of her foolishness!"

Mr. Valhalle’s gaze darted back to Diana, who still had her head down, avoiding their eyes, her face shadowed with guilt. His shoulders slumped slightly, his protective instinct clashing with the undeniable weight of his wife’s words.

Mrs. Valhalle, her voice cold and biting, turned on Diana fully now. Her eyes were wild with fury, her words like poison.

"What did you say? A foolproof plan?" She let out a mocking, bitter laugh. "We can’t even find that mer now. The one who took our money and botched the job!"

Diana winced at every word, the weight of her mother’s accusation crushing down on her. She had promised to expose Esme, to finally unearth the secrets of their rival, Esme, and cripple her success. But she had failed miserably, and the consequences were unraveling before her like a nightmare.

Mrs. Valhalle stepped even closer, her voice lowering but still full of venom. "You said you would prove she was Esme. But what did you prove, Diana? Nothing." Her eyes narrowed with disgust. "Thanks to you, our stock prices are in free fall, and that woman, Esme, whatever, has launched three major projects—one of them was ours, and she snatched it right out of our hands!"

The room felt heavy with disappointment. Diana’s heart sank deeper with every word, her hands trembling as she pressed them harder against her head, trying to stem the bleeding. The room was spinning, her world collapsing, but still, she held back the sob building in her throat.

Mr. Valhalle stood between them, his face etched with pain, torn between his wife’s fury and his daughter’s silent suffering. He wanted to defend Diana, to protect her from the wrath of her mother, but the truth of their failing empire weighed heavily on his shoulders.

"Diana..." he started softly, but the words stuck in his throat. His hand hovered near her, unsure whether to comfort her or confront her.

Diana didn’t move. She stood there, bleeding and broken.

The tension in the Valhalle mansion was suffocating, each word from Mrs. Valhalle cutting deeper than the one before. The room felt smaller with the weight of her fury. Diana stood still, her hand still pressed against her head, blood seeping through her fingers as the ashtray lay shattered on the floor. Her breathing was shallow, but she held herself steady, trying to absorb the pain both physically and emotionally.

Mrs. Valhalle’s eyes were burning with resentment, her chest heaving as she took another step toward Diana. "Daughter or not, I refuse to let this... this failure bring our family down," she spat, pointing an accusing finger at Diana.

Diana winced but said nothing, her lips pressed into a thin line. She knew there was no use in speaking up right now; her mother was beyond reasoning. She had learned that much over the years.

Mr. Valhalle stepped between them, raising his hand to shield Diana from any further assaults. "She made a mistake. We all do. But attacking her like this will not solve anything."

Mrs. Valhalle sneered, her voice cold and venomous. "A mistake? This is more than a mistake. Do you even understand what she’s cost us? That project she promised would expose Esme as a fraud—gone! Now we’ve lost not only the project but our credibility. And who benefits? That woman!"

She slammed her hand down on the table, rattling the remaining objects.
