Chapter 53: [Volume 1] Chapter 53- she couldn’t do it.
Her fingers clenched into fists as she stared out the window, her mind racing with a deadly focus. She tilted the seat back, her posture reflecting both irritation and a simmering rage.
Her gaze was icy as she muttered to herself, "I hope you’re really dead, because if you’re playing games with me, I’ll make sure you disappear from this world. I swear it."
Diana’s hatred for Esme was not just a passing resentment—it was a deep-seated animosity that had been festering since childhood. Esme had always been the golden child, excelling in academics, athletics, and every other area that Diana had been measured against. The constant comparisons and Esme’s effortless achievements had fueled a burning hatred within Diana.
The situation had reached a boiling point when, at eighteen, Esme was selected for an opportunity Diana had desperately wanted. It felt like Esme had taken everything that Diana believed was rightfully hers. The enmity had only intensified over the years, culminating in Diana’s ill-fated attempt to end Esme’s life during the prison fire—a plan doomed from the start due to the prison’s beast power suppression. The failure had only deepened Diana’s bitterness and determination.
Now, the emergence of Rose Reinguard had thrown another wrench into Diana’s carefully laid plans. Despite her initial belief that Rose and Esme were one and the same person, the more Diana delved into Rose’s background, the more she was convinced of a disturbing similarity. Rose seemed to be intertwined with their lives in ways that felt too precise and too calculated to be a mere coincidence.
"How did Rose Reinguard come into our lives so suddenly?" Diana seethed, her voice trembling with a mixture of frustration and malevolence. "Why now? What’s the connection?"
Diana’s mind raced with dark thoughts as she tried to piece together the puzzle. The consistency in Rose’s profile, combined with her sudden appearance, was more than a coincidence. It was a threat, and Diana was determined to crush it.
Her eyes narrowed with a ruthless glint as she envisioned the possible scenarios. "If Rose Reinguard is really Esme, or if she’s playing some game against me, then it will all be revealed in this party."
As the car continued its journey, Diana’s demeanor remained fierce and unyielding. Her mind was already plotting her next move, driven by a vengeful resolve. The game was far from over, and Diana was prepared to use every means at her disposal to eliminate the threat posed by Rose Reinguard and assert her dominance once and for all.
Esme placed the phone down, her expression softening for just a moment after her conversation with Ray. But as the quiet hum of the office filled the air, her thoughts returned to the transmitter. The room felt heavier, the weight of the Valhalla family’s endless manipulations pressing down on her. She stood up, pacing around the room, her fingers tracing the edges of the desk as she walked.
The door creaked open slightly, and her assistant, Mila, peeked her head inside.
"Ms. Rose, the reports you asked for are ready," Mila said, her voice hesitant, sensing the tense atmosphere in the room.
Esme glanced up, her golden eyes returning to their usual deep hue as she offered a curt nod. "Leave them on the desk," she said, her tone businesslike and sharp.
Mila quickly did as she was told, setting a neat stack of papers on the corner of the desk. As she turned to leave, Esme stopped her with a quiet but firm, "Mila."
The assistant froze, turning back to face her. "Yes, Ms. Rose?"
Esme’s gaze was fixed on the papers, her fingers tapping idly on the surface of the desk. "Tell me, Mila. What do you know about the Valhallas?"
Mila shifted uncomfortably, clearly caught off guard by the question. "They... they’re one of the wealthiest families, ma’am. Powerful. Ruthless, even but it was all before when the eldest daughter miss Esme vallahe was tye ceo but no its uncertain.... that’s all I know."
Esme looked at Mila and smiled warmly. "Oh my god, I didn’t realize you were such a fan of Esme Vallahle."
Mila’s face turned a deep red. "No, no, ma’am, I didn’t mean it like that."
Esme teased further, "Really? The way you’re talking about Esme makes it sound like she’s a truly remarkable person."
Mila’s cheeks flushed even more as she stammered, "She is a great person."
Esme was momentarily stunned, her eyes widening. Then, she wrapped Mila in a heartfelt hug. "Great person? Her? And how so?"
Mila responded with a smile, her eyes reflecting a deep appreciation. "I’m just , an orphan. From a young age, I dreamed of studying and making something of myself, but without money or resources, it seemed impossible. Then, when I was sixteen, I met Esme Vallahle. She was still in high school, and I—"
Mila’s voice grew soft as she continued, her tone filled with admiration. "She helped me. She saw potential in me and offered me a chance to study and improve my life. Her kindness and generosity made all the difference. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her."
Hearing Mila’s heartfelt words, Esme was deeply moved. It wasn’t often that she encountered such genuine admiration. Most people’s praise felt hollow, but Mila’s sincerity was undeniable. Esme was surprised to discover that someone still saw her in such a light.
She lowered her head and said with a serious tone, "But you know, right? She is an imposter and a criminal who killed a person."
Mila’s head snapped up, her expression shifting from shock to determination. "No!" Her voice was firm, almost defiant. "Esme Vallahle couldn’t do something like that."
Esme raised an eyebrow, taken aback by Mila’s strong reaction. "What?"
Mila, realizing she had raised her voice, quickly composed herself but continued with a resolute tone. "I’ve heard the rumors, but I refuse to believe them. Esme Vallahle is not someone who would commit such crimes. She’s a role model, someone who has done so much good."
