"But I have to admit, you’re really smart. How did you know the Valhalla family was going to use a blood test?" Kai asked, his curiosity piqued, his expression softening as he glanced at her.

Esme laughed softly, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Have you forgotten?" she began, a hint of amusement in her tone. "They raised me for 23 years, after all. As much as they think they know me, I know them even better. It was obvious they would resort to a blood test the moment they began to suspect I was trying to deceive them."

Kai nodded slowly, absorbing her words. "So that’s why you asked younger Brother to make that jacket for you, right?".

Hearing that, Esme smiled, lowering her head as she began to untie her watch. "Well, we can’t do anything about it now," she replied in a calm tone, her fingers deftly working the clasp.

"But really, it’s all thanks to you for remembering exactly where to poke the injection. If you had missed even by a bit, we and our carefully crafted plan would’ve been done for. I really need to thank you for that."

She looked up at him, her expression softening with genuine appreciation. "You saved us both from a disaster today."

The truth is, even Esme was surprised at how Kai was able to find the exact position to draw the blood. The skin and the fake layer were so seamlessly integrated that even a skilled physician wouldn’t have detected any mistakes just by looking at them. She knew it wasn’t as easy as it seemed.

Typically, for someone to remember something so specific, there needs to be a distinct marker—a word, a color, a texture, or even a smell. But there had been none of those.

It was living human skin, an organic and complex surface, yet Kai had done it without showing any sign of hesitation. It was as if he had an innate sense, a precision that defied logic, and Esme couldn’t help but feel a mix of awe and curious for what he was hiding more.

"Well, it’s just a piece of cake for me, you see," Kai said with a casual smirk, his confidence evident in his tone. He reached behind the front seat, pulling out a black file that had been tucked away in the seat cover. Opening it, he began flipping through the documents inside, his focus shifting to the task at hand. "After all, I’m not called the best lawyer in this country for nothing."

Esme watched him for a moment, her admiration growing, but there was also a playful gleam in her eyes. She wanted to pat herself on the back for having such incredible luck. After all, she was someone who had dared to stick her hand into the nest of vipers—teasing them without getting seriously bitten. The thought of Kai alone, with his sharp mind and ruthless precision, was enough to send a shiver of both fear and excitement down her spine.

But what if all three brothers came together? *Oh my god,* Esme thought, feeling a thrill of both anticipation and trepidation. The idea of teasing the brothers just enough to make them unleash their full potential was both terrifying and exhilarating. She could imagine the intensity of their combined intellect and power, and it made her heart race. Yet, despite the danger, a part of her couldn’t resist the challenge.

Esme smiled to herself, a mix of fear and excitement swirling within her. She was playing with fire, but the flame had always fascinated her.

As the car drove steadily along the highway, Esme closed her eyes, letting herself drift into the comfort of the moment. But as soon as her eyes shut, an old memory surfaced, vivid and unbidden. She was seated under a tree—though she couldn’t quite recall what type of tree it was or why she was there. The scene felt hazy yet familiar, as if it were a memory from a distant, forgotten past. A book lay open in her hands, but her attention was divided, her eyes shifting between the pages and the path ahead as though she were waiting for someone.

"Esme," a soft, melodious voice called out, breaking the silence. It was a voice she had been waiting for, and without hesitation, she lifted her head with a bright smile, her heart swelling with warmth. She opened her arms wide, anticipation dancing in her eyes.

A young mer with blonde, short hair and a bright smile on his lips came rushing toward her, his blue school uniform fluttering in the breeze. As he leaped into her arms, Esme hugged him tightly, her embrace full of affection and protectiveness. In that moment, everything felt right—like the world had paused just for this reunion.

The warmth of the embrace quickly turned cold, as if the air itself had shifted. Esme felt the body in her arms begin to tremble, a subtle but growing shiver that sent a chill down her spine. Alarmed, she looked down, and what she saw made her heart stop. The joy that had filled her moments ago vanished in an instant, replaced by sheer terror.

The person she had been holding- the one who had rushed into her arms with such happiness-was no longer the same. His entire body was soaked in blood, from head to toe, the vibrant blue of his school uniform now a dark, dull crimson. The sight was horrifying, a stark.

uniform now a dark, dull crimson. The sight was horrifying, a stark contrast to the bright, smiling figure he had been just seconds before.

Esme’s breath caught in her throat as she hurriedly released him, stepping back in panic. Her eyes widened in disbelief, unable to comprehend how this could have happened. The once warm and welcoming embrace had turned into a nightmare.

She met his gaze, and her blood ran cold. His eyes-those same eyes that had looked up at her with such joy-were now completely black, devoid of any light or life, as if the very essence of the person had been consumed
