The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 129
Chapter 129: Chapter 129
"He’s right there so ask him for his name if you want to know. My son looks to be more around your age so you would find more to speak about with him. Unfortunately, I am not looking for any friends or business arrangements so I hope you don’t mind that I once again leave you," Vance said and then left Dean once more.
Dean was left with only Benjamin who must have a death wish. Why was it so hard for Benjamin to calm down his eagerness and just stay away? Benjamin was grinning like a fool and although Dean didn’t have plans to kill Benjamin at first that was quickly changing because of how much Benjamin was annoying him.
"Why are you following me? I want to ask if you are an idiot but you are going to deny being one when you are one. What the hell do you want from me?" Dean asked.
"I just wanted to hear what’s being said. There’s nothing wrong with that," Benjamin replied. It wasn’t like he had come over and spoken about the plan to kill his father. "I’m normally at my father’s side at these events so this isn’t something out of the ordinary. Relax."
"You’re grinning from ear to ear and staring at me from across the room. You’re making your interest in me obvious and while I am flattered, find something else to do. I don’t need you to be watching over every interaction I have with him or you will join him later," Dean gave his last warning.
He had a fitting way of getting Benjamin out of the way and making him silent in the future but killing him sounded better right about now.
"We’re friends. You shouldn’t think about hurting your friend. Since you introduced yourself to my father and it looks like you have other friends here, there must be a name. What is it?" Benjamin asked, most interested in what name was used.
"Kevin Cornell. I suggest you be careful if you start to look into who I am. Now that you got what you wanted, please leave me the hell alone. I see a friend I need to speak to," Dean said, leaving Benjamin’s side before he started to seem suspicious.
’Kevin Cornell? Is it real?’ Benjamin wondered.
Benjamin doubted that the name was real but at the moment, it was all he had to go on for now since there weren’t any other clues.
Benjamin stopped watching Dean and returned to his father’s side.
"Do you know that man?" Vance questioned Benjamin.
"No," Benjamin shook his head. "I’ve never seen him before. I was trying to find out who invited him here. If the invitations are going to be given to just anyone then we need to think over coming here."
"We should," Vance agreed with Benjamin. It was good to see that his son was thinking. "A man now trying to make connections doesn’t belong here but I am a little curious. He says he lends money to people. Be careful how much you are seen speaking to him."
Vance knew of men like Kevin who gave out loans and then made life difficult when trying to get those loans back. Unless this man had some involvement with a bank then no one should go to him unless they were desperate and stupid.
"I don’t have any business being around a man like that but if he’s here in our city to cause trouble then I should keep a close eye on him. I might be able to make an example out of someone like him to the public. It would be a good look for me. Wouldn’t it?" Benjamin asked, looking to his father for approval.
Vance liked the idea. "It would but I would need to look into him to see who he surrounds himself with. Forget about him for now. There is someone I need you to speak to."
Benjamin straightened out his jacket and mentally prepared himself to speak to his father’s friends. After all, these were going to be his friends.
Nearly two hours later, Benjamin and Vance left the party since they had shown their faces long enough.
Benjamin was worried about the plan. Since he last spoke to Dean he did not see him again and there wasn’t a message sent to his phone. It would be a stupid idea to wait until they reached his father’s home to try something.
"Why are you riding with me, Benjamin? You’re not short on cars to use. What are you running away from?" Vance asked, knowing Benjamin was up to something. He knew Benjamin like the back of his hand.
All through the night Benjamin went from happy to looking worried.
"What mess have you created now? Tell me before it reaches me from someone else. It makes sense," Vance said, realising why Benjamin was so well-behaved tonight. "You’re trying to make him proud of you tonight to forget about whatever mess you’ve created for us. You know better than to believe that son."
Benjamin frowned. Where was his father getting this idea that he screwed up? "I didn’t do anything wrong. I told you that I realised what is at stake here. I was only trying to make you proud so you don’t regret your decision. There isn’t anything else I’m trying to hide."
"I don’t believe you. I know you, Benjamin. I’ve been watching you all night. You’re up to something and normally when you are, your stupid idea backfires for the family so, what is it?" Vance asked.
"Nothing. I haven’t done anything," Benjamin stood on his previous answer. What had he done tonight to make his father suspicious? He was perfect just like his father wanted him to be so what was the issue?
Vance didn’t believe Benjamin just yet but just as he tried to question Benjamin again, he noticed that they were taking the wrong path to reach his home. "Where the hell are we going?"
"The road is blocked up ahead because of a car accident. It will only take us back by twenty minutes to go this way," came a response from the driver.
Vance noticed the flashing lights of police cars. "Idiots,’ he muttered. "They don’t know how to drive at night."
Benjamin tried to get a good look at what was blocking their way home but the car had already turned on the new road they would take.
"I’m going to put you off somewhere you can call for a ride unless you tell me what you’ve done," Vance said, his attention back on Benjamin.
Benjamin didn’t answer his father since he was lost in having a bad feeling about the road they were taking now. Should he get out now?
