Chapter 98: I Also Have Conditions
Chapter 98: I Also Have Conditions
"You don’t have to tell me your full name if you’re not ready." Damien interrupted the silence. "I just want to know how to call you when we’re alone..."
"Ah..." Lane pressed his lips.
Even if it was just the first name, he couldn’t say it was ’Lane’. If Damien were to start digging - which was what Lane expected him to do - then he would undoubtedly be able to find something about ’Lane Allen’. Then, with his current status, and his connection to the Allen Guild, and how he wasn’t on good terms with his ’family’, wouldn’t it be pretty obvious that was his real identity? Damien was smart enough to be able to connect all the dots.
But saying a random name would also be...
Ah!
All of a sudden, a flash of inspiration struck him, and he quickly said, "Jonathan. My first name was Jonathan."
There was a guy named Jonathan in his class back at school. A second son of a prominent family. He and Lane never got along, and his face was only so-so... But he died at the age of 18, during a dungeon break that happened at their high school. Lane had already dropped out by then, but Ava was still there. She’d be able to give Lane some information, and the rest would be easy to find through his network. While not perfect, he was the best cover-up Lane could come up with on the spot.
"It’s a bit weird to be called that way though, after so many years... So, to be fair, I would prefer if you just called me ’Xavier’," he added, in a way of explanation of his earlier hesitation.
Damien appeared somewhat disappointed. Most likely, he wanted to call Lane by his REAL name, since it was a name supposedly no one else knew. Still, he didn’t argue, only letting out a sigh. "...Well, if that’s what you prefer..."
"Thank you." The corners of Lane’s lips lifted, forming a charming smile. The man exhaled softly, feeling the tension slowly leaving his body, his muscles finally relaxing. It seems that he succeeded, that he got through this troublesome conversation! Now things should only get better.
Encouraged by his achievement, it didn’t take long for Lane to revert to his usual self. His eyes squinted with a hint of a smile and confidence, as he glanced back at Damien. "Is that all for your conditions? If so, then I also have some of my own..."
"Oh? Do you think you’re in a position to do so?" Damien’s brows lifted up.
"Oh come on, it’s just a little request!" Lane rolled his eyes playfully, leading closer toward Damien with the most alluring of his smiles. "It’s just to make sure our relations develop harmoniously..." His finger trailed over the desk’s surface, drawing eights as it drifted closer and closer to one of Damien’s hands, folded into a loose fist. Just as it was about to touch it though, Damien withdrew his hand by an inch.
"What is it then?" His voice sounded a bit strained as he asked, causing Lane’s grin to grow wider.
"Well, first of all, I’d be grateful if you let me off the hook a bit. While I understand why you observed me so much, it’s really giving me anxiety, when you’re watching me like a hawk!" Lane pursed his mouth in a pitiful expression, which didn’t quite reach his eyes. It simply couldn’t, because they were all smiles, unable to be subdued!
Not that Damien would by his ’pitifulness’ anyway. He was more than familiar with Lane faking his expressions. "As long as you behave," he agreed nonetheless.
"Thank you! As for the second request..." Lane’s finger sped up, reaching Damien’s hand in the blink of an eye, before the man could relax, and trailing over his thick fingers, all the way to the prominent knuckles, as if it was climbing up a mountain, and then slowly descending down to his wrist, sliding under his sleeve to circle around his wrist knuckle, before returning, traversing the back of Damien’s hand. "How about we continue where we left off? Hmm?"
For a while, Damien didn’t answer. He didn’t take away his hand though, just sitting still, his breath rapidly quickening. A flicker of excitement emerged from the depths of Lane’s eyes...
But Damien’s next words cooled down his enthusiasm a bit. "You’re no longer angry? About... the assignment."
"Ah, there was that." Lane’s finger paused, and he withdrew his hand, using it to brush back his hair. He thought for a moment, his brows wrinkling. "Well, it’s no longer relevant, is it? We should clear it up sometime... But we had enough serious talk for one day don’t you think?" He dragged himself off the chair, circled the desk, and leaned over Damien. "Now it’d be best to just relax, no?"
Damien’s breathing became even more ragged, but he tightened his brows, trying to appear serious and calm. "You’re an Esper now, not a Guide, no?"
"Well..." Technically, he was both, but revealing that he could retain all the abilities might be a bit too much, so he just asked, "So what?"
"Since you can’t give me guiding, there’s no need to improve efficiency."
"...What?" Now Lane was truly confused. "It was just an excuse, wasn’t it? Or... were you only after my guiding?"
Surely not? For some reason, such a possibility irked Lane to no end.
It truly wasn’t though, because Damien softly shook his head with a sigh. "No, but... You’re my subordinate."
"Oh come on, not this again!" Lane clicked his tongue, climbing onto Damien’s lap and grasping his chin. It was a bit scratchy with a stubble, so uncharacteristic for the man - it must have been because he overslept, so he didn’t have time to shave - but quite sexy. "Don’t be such a stick-in-the-mud. There are no rules forbidding office romance!"
"But..."
Damien wasn’t able to finish what he wanted to say, because Lane pressed a finger over his mouth.
Damien’s lips were soft, so very soft, so unlike his calloused hands.
"If you really need an excuse, then treat it as paying me back for last night, since I covered the bill," Lane muttered, his hot breath tickling Damien’s ear.
And then, not waiting for any response, he leaned forward, claiming Damien’s soft lips.
Damien was simply hot, so hot that it was infuriating. No matter how annoyed Lane got at his uptightness, or how much he complained, he still found him hard to resist. There was just something about Damien that lured him in...
And it wasn’t just him. As opposed as he was before, when their lips finally met, Damien instantly lost all of his reservations. He wrapped his arms tightly around Lane, returning the kiss, deepening it even, as if he wanted to melt into one together with Lane, so that they could never be separated again. His hands tightened, gripping so hard into Lane’s arm and waist that they could leave behind bruises...
Lane’s chest vibrated with a chuckle, stifled by their tightly pressed lips, with no gaps that would allow it to escape. That’s how it should be. After all, while Lane had trouble resisting Damien, Damien even more so couldn’t resist Lane...
Who knows for how long they stayed like that, wrapped in each other’s embrace. Both of them lost their sense of time. Only when something hard started poking Lane’s ass, making his chest vibrate with cheery laughter again, did Damien grab his shoulders, forcefully pulling away.
"That’s enough for today," he said, lifting Lane and placing him on the desk, before getting up himself.
"Eh? But..." Lane slid off the desk, following Damien as he headed toward the bathroom attached to his office.
Damien stopped at the door, throwing the man a quick glance over the shoulder. "I... need more time."
"But we already..." Lane wanted to protest, but this time, he was the one being interrupted.
"I need to be sure you won’t just disappear again first."
There was nothing Lane could say to those words. Yes, back when he gave Damien a blowjob, the man did say he was reluctant to take things further out of worry Lane might disappear once he gets what he wants... And not long later, Lane indeed left.
So now, he could only step back and wait once again.
