Chapter 165: About Earlier...

Lane ran his hands through Damien’s hair, losing himself in the kiss. It’s been only a day since he had a chance to do it, and yet, he felt as if he had been missing it - and the man - for forever...

That’s why attachments were dangerous.

He didn’t feel like dwelling on it though, and instead, wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, and lifted him up without interrupting the kiss. Lane’s current body was taller, and it was just a bit weird, lowering his head to claim Damien’s lips!

"Mmh... Wait, Xavier." It took a good few minutes, but Damien eventually snapped out of it, and pushed Lane away. "Are you drunk?"

"Just a tiiiny little bit... And, it’s Oscar now," Lane reminded, his eyes curved into crescents. "You should get used to it, or else people will give us weird looks if you call me ’Xavier’ in public..."

Damien’s brows furrowed, the expression on his face clearly saying that people would look at them weird anyway... Or at least at Damien, since he ’changed’ his boyfriend AGAIN, and immediately after his previous one’s death!

He didn’t point that out though, and instead just said with a sigh, "Put me down first."

"Uh... Okay..." Lane obliged... But only by putting down his boyfriend. While his arms remained securely locked around the man.

They stood in silence for a long while, neither knowing quite what to say.

"When did you... come back?" Damien finally asked.

"A few hours ago. I was in the dungeon with the team... And I kind of bolted when I got a chance," Lane chuckled, burying his head in Damien’s neck and inhaling the familiar scent. It was so... relaxing. And comforting. He could stay like that all day...

"So... You’re with the Allen Guild now?"

"Uh. I guess..." Lane groaned, squeezing Damien even tighter. "But don’t worry, I’m gonna quit soon and join the Association! So don’t even think about accepting their offer."

"But what about the severance fee?"

"It’s just some chump change, don’t worry about it!"

Damien let out a sigh, shaking his head. But he didn’t scold Lane for wasting money or for... anything, really, even though there were plenty of things he could scold the man for. He was too glad, too relieved, just having Lane back with him to think about it.

"Mmm... Can I sleep with you?" Lane muttered, snuggling to his boyfriend.

"Xavier..." Damien hesitated for a moment. "Uh, I mean, Oscar... I’m... tired..."

"Oh..." Lane’s shoulders dropped in disappointment... But then he burst out laughing, as he realized something. "Oh, wait! I didn’t mean that kind of sleeping! I literally meant just sleeping in your bed. While cuddling. I can tell you’re exhausted, so I wasn’t planning to bother you with sex now... Unless you ask for it yourself, of course," his voice lowered to a sexy whisper at the last sentence, and he bit lightly on Damien’s earlobe.

"Not... now..." Damien’s cheeks flushed lightly... But there was a certain discomfort in his features.

Perhaps he needed some time to get used to the change. Well, Lane was in no rush, so it was fine.

"Alright, fine... But I can stay the night, right?" Lane nuzzled Damien’s neck, still clinging tightly and unwilling to let go.

"What about your Guild? Don’t you have... a roommate?"

"Hm. They were not back yet, last time I checked... And besides, I’m quitting anyway, so who cares! I’ll just deal with them later... What, do you not want me anymore?"

Hearing Lane’s incessant whining, Damien sighed, shaking his head... But the corners of his mouth lifted up a bit. Actually... he was hoping Lane would stay, at least for a while. "I do, of course I do," he reassured Lane. "You can stay... Just take a shower first. You smell like monster blood... And alcohol."

"Oh, right." Lane finally let go of Damien - although unwillingly - and glanced down at his clothes. Oscar was in the dungeon, fighting monsters, when Lane caught him... And out of it all, he completely forgot to wash up and get changed! "I guess I should clean up first."

Not wanting to risk Damien changing his mind, he quickly jumped off his clothes, and rushed into the bathroom, into the shower. He scrubbed himself clean in a record speed...

And then he ran into a liiitle problem.

He had no spare clothes with him. And as for the hotel’s bathrobe... It was already tight on Damien, so on Oscar, whose body was even bigger, was simply too uncomfortable to sleep in!

"Uh... Damien?" Lane popped his head out of the bathroom. "I have a..."

Damien must have expected it, because he instantly handed Lane his spare pajamas. They were also a size too small... But they were not bad. Lane put on the bottoms, but ignored the top - he wouldn’t be able to button it up anyway! - and jumped into the bed, snuggling to Damien.

Still, although it was warm and comfortable, he couldn’t quite fall asleep, plagued by an uncomfortable tightness in his chest.

"Damien?" he muttered after a while, unable to hold back any longer.

"Hmm?"

"I’m sorry... about earlier. Um, about dying... I mean."

Damien remained silent for a long while. So long, that Lane started doubting whether he was still awake, or his earlier ’hmm’ was just some hum done in his sleep. Just as he hesitated over whether he should poke the man’s cheek to check or not, Damien finally said,

"It’s... alright. It wasn’t your fault."

Lane pressed his lips, somehow feeling even more uncomfortable. While he indeed didn’t want to die this time... If Damien knew the truth, then he would know that Lane had never been dead at all.

And besides, if Lane had been more careful... Or if he’d been in his real body, with his real physical capabilities back then, then he would have survived...

So, all things considered... He was still to blame for making Damien worry, no?

"I’m sorry anyway," he muttered, snuggling even tighter to Damien’s chest. "I’ll... try not to make you worried again."

Damien didn’t answer. Although Lane said it... Maybe he was just being too worrisome, but he had a feeling it was a promise Lane wouldn’t be able to keep in the end.
