Chapter 84: Chapter 84- Daring To Challenge the Holy Sects and the Great Clans
"Huh? Why are you so eager to start without us?"
Someone’s voice suddenly sounded across the venue completely shattering the formal air that was meticulously cultivated by Byeong-Ho.
Everyone’s gaze in the venue, including Sol’s, turned to the entrance to see four late figures strolling in.
At the front of the group was a youth that looked slightly older than Sol. He had a clean-shaven head and wore a fancy-looking Daoist robes with excellent silver embroidered on their sleeves and hems.
He looked like a monk from the Shaolin Temple; however, his way of dressing was contradicting from the simple lifestyle Sol knew the Shaolin Temple to have from those old books.
Rather, the other youth who was to this person’s right checked all the boxes for being a monk, except for having a clean-shaven head.
As for the third youth, who was to the left of the monk, he was the one who had yelled for all to hear. He was dressed rather casually to match his nonchalant demeanor. But with a glance, one could tell his way of dressing and attitude were a complete contrast to how Byeong-Ho expected everyone to be. Although that being on purpose was likely the case from how this youth was smiling at Byeong-Ho’s frowning expression.
However, these three people only caused Sol to glance at them once. The person who he truly focused on was the fourth youth. The one walking behind the third youth.
"Geon-Soo..."
Sol muttered as he looked at the familiar figure. Immediately, he realized something.
Geon-Soo looked eerily similar to the third youth smiling at Byeong-Ho. He had the same jawline, the same cheeks, as well as the same eyebrows. It was obvious they were brothers when they walked side-by-side.
Sol was about to lean forward to ask Yoon-Jae who the third youth was, but before he could do so, Byeong-Ho answered for him.
"Woo-Seong, you’re late."
Woo-Seong, the son of the Wudang Sect’s Patriarch. He gave a look of amusement to Byeong-Ho before he said.
"Did I interrupt your perfect Plum Blossom Gathering? My apologies if I did."
Even though Woo-Seong said that he didn’t seem apologetic at all.
Byeong-Ho ignored his taunting and welcome the first youth leading the group, who nodded silently.
Meanwhile, Yoon-Jae seemed to realize the implications of Geon-Soo’s possible identity and he turned to give Sol a glance.
It was a glance that said he should be careful from now on.
But it was weird, the Wudang Sect Patriarch only ever had one son. However, that was a lie just from looking at Geon-Soo.
Yoon-Jae couldn’t help but feel dumbfounded that his guess of Geon-Soo being an illegitimate child could be true.
Sol understood Yoon-Jae’s warning as he continued to start at Geon-Soo, who took his seat with Woo-Seong. It was then that he noticed that Woo-Seong, the first youth, and the third youth’s group were placed together.
Going from what he knew, the first youth who was a monk but didn’t dress like a monk was from the Shaolin Sect. The second youth must be from the Kongtong Sect.
Even though the books Sol read were outdated, he still learned about the creation of each Sect and the Kongtong Sect was created based on the teachings of the Shaolin Sect. In fact, a few of the other Sects were slightly influenced by the Shaolin Sect in one way or another. But the Kongtong Sect was even more so.
So, it wasn’t hard to understand why they would be so close.
As for what relation the Wudang Sect has with the Shaolin Sect... he didn’t know.
Sol was about to look away from these three groups, but he suddenly felt a gaze on him. He turned to see Geon-Soo staring at him with a smirk on his lips.
Sol gave him a placid look before he turned away. His focus went to the other groups in the venue.
The representatives of the Five Great Clans were here, two females and three males. But they haven’t drawn a single attention to themselves. It seemed like they were in a world of their own.
Sol even realized the feeling they gave off was extremely different from the representatives of the Six Holy Sects.
He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was something about the way they carried themselves that separated them from Byeong-Ho and the others from the Holy Sects.
As Sol was observing the entire venue that was separated into Sects and Clans, he happened to see someone familiar.
On the Sects side of the venue, a group was there that consisted of only female disciples.
It was the Emei Sect.
The person Sol saw was the female disciple that he met on the Central Mountain that wanted him to enter the Dual Cultivation Pavilion venue.
Shockingly, this beautiful female disciple’s head suddenly snapped towards his direction.
Sol instinctively ducked behind Yoon-Jae, narrowly missing her gaze. While hiding, he silently vowed in his heart to avoid looking over there for the rest of the Plum Blossom Gathering.
"Now, let the sparring matches begin!"
Byeong-Ho’s voice echoed out once more. This time no interruptions occurred, and someone suddenly leap onto the large stage.
"My name is Yun-Oh, I am the representative leader of the Flower River Sect, and I would like to challenge those from the Scorching Plains Sect to the best of three!"
From what Sol heard from Yoon-Jae about how the sparring matches worked, was that anyone from a Sect or a Clan could go on stage and challenge another Sect or Clan for their location in the Hundred Flower and Herbs Dimension.
As for the rules, the challenging party could offer a method to decide the winner.
It could be the best of three like how this Yun-Oh suggested, or it could just be a one-on-one battle. But the two parties didn’t even have to fight each other; they could even use a board game to decide the winner if both agreed.
On the stage, the battle between these two smaller Sects finished and others quickly began. But soon, Sol started to realize something. These smaller Sects and Clans didn’t even glance at the Holy Sects or the Great Clans. The thought of challenging them for their locations didn’t seem to cross their minds once.
Meanwhile, the disciples from the Holy Sects and Great Clans were laughing and chatting as they watched the matches between the smaller Sects and Clans.
It’s as if they were taking this as entertainment; like it was an extension of the party.
First, they drank, then they ate, and finally they sat down to socialize and enjoy the show put on for them.
Something about this situation irked Sol.
They were looking down on the smaller Sects and Clans, but it wasn’t that they were doing it on purpose. They have become so accustomed to being at the top—with their Family or Sect being at the top—that they have become complacent.
Sol tried not to think about this. Instead, his attention turned to the Alchemy Disciples’ who were whispering around him that the Forgotten Geniuses were here!
Sol eagerly looked around the crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of Son. His appearance on stage would be even better. However, he couldn’t spot him no matter how hard he looked.
’If he’s not here then I’ll just have to find the branch of the Huashan Sect he’s staying at and visit him. It shouldn’t be hard since he’s a Forgotten Genius.’
As Sol made up his mind, the fight among the smaller Sects and Clans continued for a while.
The battles were intense, as one party was fighting for a better location in the Hundred Flowers and Herbs Dimension to supply their Sect or Clan with better resources, while the other was fighting to keep their location.
Sol also saw numerous Martial Skills being used, and though he was watching closely he chose not to steal any.
These disciples didn’t know the importance of hiding their breathing patterns, so their Martial Skills were up for grabs if Sol used his Heavenly Eyes to closely observe them.
But he didn’t.
It was rather unethical, and besides, these weren’t the Martial Skills he wanted. He wanted to learn Martial Skills from the Six Holy Sects and the Five Great Clans. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like anyone would challenge them for fear of breaking the status quo.
However, as the matches between the smaller Sects and Clans wind down, that soon change.
Swoosh!
A rotund figure suddenly flew onto the stage and landed with a loud bang.
This person, as well as his actions next, drew the attention of the disciples casually talking amongst themselves.
"I, Mar-Dule, the representative leader of the Runes and Formation Pavilion, challenge the Kongtong Sect for its location!!"
Mar-Dule’s voice echoed out and everyone turned to stare at him.
His chest was puffed out and a fierce expression was on his face as he glared at the youth who came with the monk who didn’t dress like a monk and Woo-Seong.
He dared to break the status quo and challenge one of the Six Holy Sects!
Sol smiled at Mar-Dule.
He wanted to stand up and cheer loudly, not only because he was a friend, but because he was finally going to witness a Holy Sect’s Martial Arts Techniques!
Sol was so excited that he couldn’t sit still in his chair.
