Chapter 1118: Chapter 134: Brothers Are Like Clothes, Women Are Like Hands and Feet_3

Finn began to ask, revealing another layer of Maeve’s identity.

Maeve, also known as Mab, was the former Fairy King of Ireland, who awakened the dark side of humans during their sleep. Emotions such as bribery, greed, war, and lust were all under her authority’s influence.

The "King’s Clan" among the Six Great Fairy Clans were her descendants.

However, for some reason, all the fairies of Ireland migrated to the Mist Forest in Britain, established their new home, and elected Witch Morgan as their queen, gradually severing ties with their homeland in Ireland.

"You know that was in the past. Now, even if I wanted to call some fairies to help, they might not listen to my command, especially concerning things related to the Ulster Kingdom."

Maeve snorted indignantly, then glanced mockingly at her lover Fergus beside her.

"As for the reason, well, you should ask our King of Ulster."

Fergus was immediately embarrassed upon hearing this.

The matter began with the curse from Goddess Macha (Mogwa).

An Alster farmer named Kuland Chu discovered a mysterious pregnant woman in his house. She was seeking refuge in a quiet environment to nurture her pregnancy, so she implored the farmer for shelter.

Seeing her beauty and willingness to handle household chores, work farm labor, and bring prosperity to the fields, the farmer Kuland Chu agreed to take her in. From then on, the mysterious woman lived peacefully in the farmer’s home, and outwardly, they declared themselves a couple.

In fact, this was Goddess Macha, who had descended from Sky Island. She was already carrying a divine embryo and was in a weakened state, hence seeking the help of a mortal.

One day, Kuland Chu prepared to attend a grand gathering hosted by the people of Ulster, where the then King Conchobar Mac Nessa, Fergus’s nephew who took over the throne, would also be present. Macha sensed an ominous event was about to occur and hoped the farmer wouldn’t go, but Kuland Chu insisted on attending.

Helplessly, Macha, who was indebted to the farmer, asked him to promise not to mention her at the gathering; otherwise, disaster would strike. Kuland Chu agreed.

At the gathering, the two war horses of King Conchobar won all the chariot races, and the audience cheered loudly, claiming nothing could be faster than these horses. Kuland Chu said his wife could outrun them, completely forgetting the reminder he received before leaving. Upon hearing this, the King angrily detained Kuland Chu and summoned Macha.

Macha was brought to the gathering, where Conchobar commanded her to race against his war horses. Macha admitted that she was about to give birth and pleaded with the King and audience to postpone the race, but no one paid attention to her. The frenzied Conchobar threatened her that if she didn’t race, he would dismember her and the farmer who sheltered her. The frightened farmer, too, demanded Macha to comply due to their benefaction. Bound by her oath, Macha had no choice but to race, surpassing the two war horses.

But as a consequence, Macha suffered extreme physical damage, and her two children were prematurely born right before the finish line.

As a goddess of fertility and childbirth, being treated so horribly enraged Macha, who then broke her oath and cast a curse on the entire Ulster Kingdom:

"From this moment, the shame you’ve given me will cause every man of Ulster to suffer five days of excruciating painful labor-like agonies when faced with foreign invasions. This curse shall last for nine generations."

Afterwards, she reverted to her true form and departed from the Ulster Kingdom, taking most of the fairies in Ireland with her and retreating to the Mist Forest in Britain.

As the Fairy Queen of Ireland, Maeve was an unfortunate victim of collateral damage, suddenly stripped of her powers, naturally unwilling to let things rest.

Hence, this Fairy Queen ascended in Connacht, gathered an army, and launched a full-scale attack on Ulster.

At that time, Ulster’s men were all weak and impotent due to Goddess Macha’s curse, unable to resist and quickly defeated. Fergus himself, having given advice, was imprisoned by his tyrannical nephew.

Seeing the imminent downfall of Ulster, fortunately, Cu Chulainn, who had returned after completing his studies, charged into the royal city, united with the Divine Blood Heroes of the Red Branch Knights, overthrew Conchobar’s rule, reinstated Fergus to the throne, and presented that tyrant as a source of evil to Maeve for venting.

Following this incident, coupled with invasions from foreign forces by sea, Ulster and Connacht were forced to set aside their animosities and unite against the enemy.

But in any case, Maeve lost her ability to command the Six Great Fairy Clans, and multiple attempts to reclaim power were thwarted by the newly appointed Morgan, leaving her stuck in Ireland, serving as a mortal queen.

As for the legendary Goddess Macha, Maeve dared not trouble her.

As the leader of the three goddesses who controlled fate and war in Celtic mythology, Macha witnessed numerous rises and falls of the Danu Divine Race firsthand.

It is said that her first husband was Nimid, the leader of Scythia who once defeated the Deep Sea Giant Clan. In that grand divine war, Nimid perished while Macha reincarnated, revived, making Military God Nuada her second husband.

Some say they were not a couple but were associated, with her elevating Nuada to the throne of the First Throne, ushering in a new glory for the Danu Divine Race.

Since then, Macha has undergone several reincarnations during successive large-scale invasions, seeking shelter as a pregnant woman in the mortal world with an Ulster farmer, which led to subsequent troubles.

Although she appeared to be downcast on the surface, the once formidable goddess of fate and war.

Yet faced with this unfathomable living relic of a divine era, Maeve had no courage to provoke her.

Therefore, as Finn suggested, borrowing troops from the Six Great Fairy Clans or summoning remaining fairies in Ireland would be absolutely off the table for her.

Seeing Maeve’s staunch refusal, Finn opened his mouth but ultimately said nothing.

Compared to Maeve, he knew more about the inside story.

Macha came down from Sky Island to the mortal world, hiding in a farmer’s house because she had taken an extremely important treasure from the Danu Divine Race’s territory from Nuada.

This pertained to the entire Danu Divine Race’s heavenly destiny, and her two children were conceived because of it.

Thus, the goddess of war and fate who once single-handedly brought about the Danu Divine Race’s glory was targeted at every turn, ultimately forced to race against horses while pregnant.

And the orders given by the Ulster King Conchobar, who dramatically changed personalities upon ascending the throne, likely had something to do with this matter.

The ultimate outcome of the story, Finn remained unclear.

But undoubtedly, the Danu Divine Race and the three on Avalon Island had completely fallen out, borrowing troops from the Six Great Fairy Clans under their command was next to impossible.

For now, finding a way to break the deadlock seemed reliant on themselves.

After a long period of contemplation, Finn provided a relatively cautious plan:

"Tomorrow, I’ll lead the charge, trying to stall those barbarians by sea; Ao Xiang, you can sense the shifting earth veins, responsible for locating those foreign magicians; finally, Cu Chulainn, you and Maeve, Fergus, join the assault. It’s crucial to eliminate these troubles, even if unable to eradicate them, at least destroy their magical foundation!"

Everyone nodded in agreement, then departed the royal palace one after another to prepare for battle.

Watching the gradually emptying great hall, Princess Grainne bit her lip, ultimately hesitated.

In the entire war, affecting tens of thousands of lives, a Fiona battle group’s chief knight weighed too lightly.

As a result, during meetings, Diarmuid’s name was not mentioned at all.

Now, all they could hope for was that the surprise attack tomorrow could open up the situation, and by then, maybe she could gain more leverage in negotiations with that person.

Gods bless, may everything go smoothly.

Grainne sincerely prayed as her silhouette gradually disappeared into the darkness of the hall.
