The Goddess Made A Mistake Again -
Chapter 444 - 444 - Aftermath of The Whitedon Battle
"That… didn't end pretty." I murmur as Peter rode out with his people.
The next thing we did was settle down and make camp.
There were a lot injures and most weren't ready to move yet so we needed to treat them first.
First, we cleaned up a spot in the field before quickly turning it into temporary camp and started treating people.
I stood at the center of it and watched how there were thousands of people laying on the ground, needing medical attention. But there were only so many medical hands, it definitely wasn't enough to take care of everyone.
I call out Keira, "Take a few men and go to the city. Tell Margaret to send as much doctors, nurses and medical hands as soon as possible."
"Alright" Keira asked me, "Do I ask for medical supplies too?"
"Anything we need, ask it. Just go there quickly and bring help as fast as possible." Keira nodded and left to get the men.
You're probably wondering that having the people's backs might have changed my mind about a few things. In short, made me a better man.
You're absolutely right!
I am a better man now; I am acting as far as possible to be a better man.
With Seman on death's bed, Margaret's promotion wouldn't take too long. I needed to act like a leader to them, a caring one that Seman was or close enough.
Now that I made an enemy out of the Dragonoir's for no fucking reason but simply bad luck and aim, I needed a huge ton of support.
Good thing I already have Margaret enamored and ready to marry me, otherwise she would definitely not take the risk that is looming on me right now.
'Got to start building me a personal army too.'
The place around was filled with people lying on the ground. Actually, everywhere I could see, people were groaning and holding on to their injured spots with painful faces.
With few materials and medical hands in number, the best we could do for these soldiers were to make a makeshift pillow for them. At least let them place their head in rest.
This much was my real feelings.
I may be a bad guy, but not so much that I would want my men to lie in pain.
The enemies were a different matter.
'Speaking of my people,' I look ahead to the only somewhat made tent in the area, 'Let's see how Seman and the others are doing.'
I carefully pass the street filled with injured people and came before the tent. Of all the places, the tent was the quietest and the best with everyone inside receiving the most care. Alwaysreadatthesource—NovelFire.
Because the leaders always receive the best care, even if it were just a splinter.
Looking at the critical and close to critical wounds, I'd say the soldiers wouldn't complain about them receiving half-assed treatment.
Most of the people inside the tent were familiar faces. Only the captains and highest ranked soldiers were placed here and getting treatment.
I gave a brief nod to whoever Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel there was. If you weren't on Peter's side, then you're good enough for a look.
Getting towards the Religias side, my eyes immediately went towards Seman. The guy was sleeping on a makeshift bed. He was half naked with his abdomen and other places being tightly wrapped.
Just from the look of his face, it seemed like Seman had lost a lot of blood.
"How's he doing?" I ask Jacob, he was sitting by Seman and the others. Looking after them under my order.
"Well, he's not dead so there's that." Jacob smiled before it vanished, "But in all honesty… he's not doing good, Henry. If we were just a little late than he would have been dead."
I sigh at that, "What did the doctor say?"
"You mean the guy acting as a doctor." Jacob wasn't wrong, we really needed some professionals, "He couldn't do much but keep him alive, the guy said."
He sighed, "But if that guy wasn't here, Seman wouldn't be alive right now."
"So It's that bad." I sigh and look at the captain's, "What about them, how are they?"
Jacob gave a glance at them, "Captain Marko and Vein are doing alright. They only lost a little blood and they'd be okay by nightfall."
It was afternoon right now so it was a good news.
Then Jacob looked at the last two, "Those two… not so good. They still haven't woken from losing too much blood, but they are doing better than Seman. The hands said not to worry too much."
I take a chair by Seman's bed and look at the sleeping man, "Things are really bad."
"Yeah" Jacob broke out a laugh, "With the Dragonoir family coming for your ass, it went really bad."
"And you're laughing about this? Who do think they'll go first?" I ask, "Me or the people around me to get my information?"
"…Okay, I might have skipped that part." Jacob said and had a conflicting look on him. He looked around us as if searching for someone and quietly looked at me, "Henry… what was that thing you said before?"
"About?"
"About some captain telling the information. Do you know who it is?"
I nod, "I do."
"Really! Who is it?" Jacob felt the jitters wanting to listen.
"It was Calvin."
"What!" Jacob had a shocked expression as he screamed. Then he quickly blocked his mouth and asked again, "Seriously?"
I only nod.
"Ho- How's that even possible? The guy might be rough and stupid in many places but he's loyal to the core. He wouldn't betray the Religias." Peter said as it made me raise a brow.
"And how do you know so much about him?"
"I trained under him for a while."
That clicked it.
"Oh, yeah… I sometimes forget you used to work here."
"So Calvin really spoke," Jacob had a thoughtful look, "You really can't expect what someone is capable of until they do it, huh."
I laugh, "Don't blame it too much on him. The guy only blabbered to the wrong call girl."
Jacob raised a brow on that as I explain.
"The bandits send a lady spy to him that he slept with. It seems that he not only fornicated but said a lot of courageous thing about his past and the current future too."
"OH... that guy." Jacob shook his head, "You can't even blame him now, he's already dead."
I nod as something clicks again, "Speaking of blaming people, where's Lucian?"
Jacob looked confused at me, "You don't know?"
I shook my head as his face turned bright, "You really don't know?"
"Just say it, don't build suspense."
"He's dead." Jacob said, "He died under that super strong tornado effect like punch too!"
My eyes widen at the unexpected outcome… then I smile.
At least there's some good I did today.
…
It took Keira two hours to get to Whitedon and report to Margaret. As expected, Margaret quickly heed her words and sent out as many people as possible.
As Dawn came, the help did with an additional surprise.
I see the leading figure of the medical team with her beautiful and bright smile to me.
"Mrs. Veronica!"
