Chapter 1094: Chapter 1090: Sprained Ankle

"There’s been an emergency—a second major test in the host’s life. You now have two choices: press the red button or the blue button. Please indicate your decision!"

"I can pick whichever I want?"

"You can, but the system warns the host that this decision will affect the subsequent direction and could have significant repercussions. So, choose wisely."

Choose wisely? How am I supposed to choose wisely when you only gave me two options and no hints? What kind of crap advice is that?!

In less than ten seconds, Qiao Xiaren decided to press the red button.

She had no idea what would happen next. For the first time, a flicker of unease crept over her. She glanced around, observing the people and objects nearby.

What would happen after pressing the red button?

"Xiaren, are you okay?" Yunduo clearly noticed her mood shift and asked. Qiao Xiaren shook her head silently.

As the shoot approached its final sequence, Qiao Xiaren’s foot suddenly twisted. A sharp, stabbing pain shot through her, halting her instinctively.

Yunduo noticed Qiao Xiaren’s expression change and rushed over to steady her. "Xiaren, are you alright?"

"I’m fine." The words barely left her mouth before the pain intensified. Even someone as tough-minded as her couldn’t help but wince.

"What happened?" The director hurried over to examine Qiao Xiaren’s ankle, noticing it was swollen and bruised.

Qiao Xiaren glanced down. "I think I hurt my foot just now."

Twisting her ankle at a time like this! The director’s face darkened. Just a few shots away from wrapping up the ad, and now this happens!

Expressionless, Qiao Xiaren couldn’t help but grumble internally. Pressing the red button led to spraining her ankle?

"Quick, help her over to sit down." At the director’s orders, Annie and Yunduo helped her to a seat nearby. Jason’s face grew stormier by the moment.

If not for her solid performance earlier, he might have already lost his temper.

"Director, the lead actress is injured. What do we do now?" The assistant was visibly anxious, speaking rapidly in English with the director. Fang Yun overheard everything and didn’t miss her chance to step forward and recommend herself.

"Director, I can take over for Qiao!"

If she could appear alongside Jason, it would mean so much more exposure.

Seeing Fang Yun so eagerly promoting herself, Yunduo felt disgusted—what an opportunist!

The director hesitated for a moment. With just a few shots left, they couldn’t afford to abandon the scene midway. The production costs for renting the location and other expenses were far from trivial.

"Qiao, can you push through?"

"How could she possibly push through? Qiao’s ankle is swollen blue and purple!" Annie objected. "Can’t the remaining shots wait for a few days? Qiao looks like she’s in serious pain."

The pain was indeed severe. Qiao Xiaren had no clue what the system was trying to test her on, but her ankle felt nearly useless.

The director firmly denied the suggestion. "If Qiao can’t shoot, we’ll have to bring someone else on set. The ad doesn’t rely solely on one lead actress. Replacing her won’t make much difference."

It might make no difference to the director, but for Qiao Xiaren, this was her chance—one she couldn’t afford to give up. She suddenly recalled an incident in the industry where a female star filming an ad had a mishap in the forest and let her assistant step in. That assistant ended up climbing her way into the entertainment industry, using the original actress as a stepping stone.

It was clear that Qiao Xiaren didn’t want to be anyone’s stepping stone.

Her years in showbiz had taught her all too well how capable the media was of blowing things out of proportion. If Fang Yun exploited the situation and twisted the facts, the scandal could transform into a damaging tale of her throwing a diva tantrum.
