Chapter 85: 2.24.2 A small discussion.
Things never go according to one’s plan and this is what’s so great about life. It’s what brings variety to it.
So even though I hated Soros’ way of life, or his pursuit of meaningless death, it was still something.
Something to be enjoyed. So there was no need to ponder his decisions. He might not have liked my intrusion, or chosen to go against my will. But that is what it means to a human.
Even I, who learned so much about Soros through his torturous dreams could not account for the man he would become. A man without any aim or desire.
But whether he was a perfect tool or a fool, only time will tell.
So with my consent, he was thrown out of my world and back into his own, opening his eyes, he suddenly smelled the freshest air he had ever breathed in and the sound of small rats that made that hole. Of course, the freshest here was only relative, as it was still the sewer.
Soros didn’t seem to think much of his encounter, crawling without caring for the rats that crawled along his feet and the sounds they made, he kept crawling until his path came to an end. From which, he can hear the sounds of chisels and hammers, breaking the inscriptions. Which was why he stopped and waited for a while.
Ten minutes to be exact, before the sounds from the other side subsided on their own and he pushed out the stone wall that was blocking his exit and found the darkness in front of him again. And in the distance, he can hear the sounds once again.
Of course, as this was a used path, the workers left some light sources which gave Soros an idea where he was.
"S151.785..." Then he turned to the side and saw some other similar words stamped on the side, before coming to the conclusion of where he was.
’Only 40 meters?’
The path that felt like eternity was only a little long, for he had only walked across a single block and there were many to go.
Though, it was not like he had to use these hidden pathways again and again, it was only useful when there are patrols blocking his way. And Soros seems to know it as well. So without complaining much after that, like a silent rat, he crawled the sewers, hiding from the eyes and using the entrances that my minions have dug throughout the years on his own leisure.
Which pained me a bit, making me feel underappreciated as Soros had denied my request. But I am sulking again, let me get back to Soros and his ultimate sewer journey, the very place he seemed to have killed countless of my minions not so long before.
Of course, I knew the truth of what he had actually done. Soros was a boy that can’t even hurt a fly on his own, as for the curse he carried? That was another matter altogether.
As for what it was, one would find it soon enough.

For the last three days, Maisel hasn’t slept. Occupying the Mayor’s office for his own, he had been actively raiding countless empty lots where there were chances of bad elements of hiding.
And he can be said to be partially successful. Besides a few innocent refugees and a homeless population that used those places as shelter, there were many criminals hiding in those places and people who seemed to be criminals. Due to the state they were found in.
Which included some mages who were conducting their own experiments away from their campus in fear of scrutiny. Who were also thrown into jail, but not the normal one.
They were directly sent to the jail in barracks and when the occupation of the city is over, they would be initiated into the army and forced to fight on the frontlines instead of serving their terms in the jail.
An act that highly antagonized the mages, who were currently taking part in a civil discussion with Maisel as well as some other higher level officers that were currently serving him.
"We will call for independence."
"I would call it treason."
One would have assumed due to the Mages’ action of closing off their doors while they waited for the world outside to calm down would be the only thing they would do. But that one person would be stupid.
The closing gates were not for the army to enter their campus, but to keep their younger generation from going out and fall for the Army’s trap.
Though, due to the existence of the teleportation circles that even they were not aware of, the research hungry mages ran away from the campus and ended up falling into Army’s hand.
Which was bad on its own, though, what made the situation worse was the experiments they were doing. And if word of it were to go out, the mages won’t be able to keep the army away from their campus for long.
It was for such a reason why the leaders of the ambassadors from the five major school were here, of course, this was with exception of the Occult, which used to be headed by Kairut Lucien, who has now turned into a criminal on his own, while his second in command was forced to shut his academy down, temporarily while the mage union looks for a new leader to replace him.
Hence, there were only four people present here, one of which was from the previous Arcane mage, that had been present in the meeting with the mayor the day of Maisel’s declaration.
"I am giving you the chance here... We won’t pursue the matter. As for your other request, forget about it. We won’t let it happen."
"As I said before, I don’t need anyone’s request. For all we know, all of you mages are working with those terrorists. And until proven innocent, you all are guilty for it.’
"Marshall, a man of your stature likes to twist the laws on your own? This is not allowed. Personal emotions are blinding you here."
"Think before speaking... I put my child under your care and he came back dead. But when I came to take his body back, what did I find? Conspiracy everywhere. The terrorists that I have hunted most of my life are living here freely, walking the streets and doing whatever they want?"
"We are not some protectors of this city, you should know how this city originated. We only came together to explore the secret of mana. What happens outside of the campus is not our fault. Its that old mayor and his oversight that caused all of this to happen in the first place."
Hearing such words, Maisel threw some reports on the table in front of everyone. "I am not asking you to protect this city, but from all these reports and the transaction details from the some slave auction houses that were recently burned down by me, I have come to know many of the customers were none other than the mages."
"Lies, slanderous lies these are... Forgery to create a reason to raid out land of knowledge. That report of yours proves nothing, beside your obsession. Rage has blinded you."
""And arrogance has blinded you all. I am saying this now, either willingly give way to my men, or we will break into your so-called land of knowledge and burn it to the ground."
"Watch your mouth Marshall, Just because we are trying to avoid you doesn’t mean we won’t fight back. The prince has still not given a concrete answer yet. We both know what this means."
Hearing such words, Maisel fell silent for a while.
There was no way what the Prince meant by this small action, the ministers in the palace might have given him a greenlight to do whatever he wanted to do. But with the prince being silent, it also meant that when time comes, Maisel might have to become the scapegoat in order to calm down the mage, if he didn’t have any concrete reasons for his action.
But until that future comes, power still remains in his hands.
"It means the winner takes it all... I give you 12 hours. Either give me all the names in this report along with whoever it is that is supporting the Blue Lotus. Or I raid your campus."
Hearing such concrete words, the mages felt silent, this wasn’t a treat, but a declaration just like before.
But the last time, it was only the city, which they didn’t care about much.
But now?
Now this man was talking about their holy land.
"If that is what you wish for, don’t expect an easy raid."
With those words, the delegation from the mages left.
"They seemed angered." One of the officers commented in a mocking tone, while the others laughed following him.
"They will be more angry in few hours, so get as much rest as you can." Maisel talked some more with his men while taking in the updates from his men.
Before going to take a rest in, which was only a light sleep on a sofa.
Though, this sleep was broken as he heard a ring followed by a young soldier entering the office.
"What happened?"
"Sir...A fight between transcendental beings broke out in Dorian street. It would seem that one side was already dead when we came there."
"That place again?... even when the Curfew is going on, they never stop."
