Chapter 627: 7.16.5 Fixing the child’s mistake.
Old men were always a bit childish and stubborn. Making them far easier to manipulate if you know what irked them. But Remira was not that kind of person, or she might have been one day if her life hadn’t been derailed since the incidences of Durum. Leading her on a path of righteousness.
Failures make a man. And Remira had failed too much by now. She knows when to back off and show some humility when the person in front of her is so senior and probably not in the right state of mind.
"Hmm... matter not, stay on the side... wait for others." But Malidi was far from normal, since learning she cheated, his interest in her died down. Even the fact that she had been one of the chosen of a god didn’t interest him at all. To him, nothing was better than the trove of knowledge in this garden, as well as the Dwarf that will be arriving here soon.
While this girl? Well, she did have some value, but there were already too many "claims" on her. Beings that might be troublesome to Malidi, so he let her stand on the side.
But Remira, after coming this far, how can she just stand on the side and let things go on? She soon recalled Sheva’s words before, how Malidi had been a kind of Teacher to Jester, the man who might know most about what or how to defeat him. And this man for all intent and purposes didn’t have any allegiances besides himself.
As long as you can provide him with some help, Malidi might help her in return.
So she spoke. "I came here to rescue you..." Her words were clear, and although it went against Malidi’s request for her to stay silent, she chose to say her point.
Of course, Malidi did give her a deep look before saying. "Your key is deteriorating... cheating is never good. Useless to me." This time, Malidi’s tone was gentler than before, so much so that he even took some time to explain to Remira what the issue was. Which caused her to bring out what appeared to be a small wooden wolf with white pain that slowly peeled off of it. "It has begun... I give you thirteen days." He spoke again, before returning to his book
And Remira, hearing all of this turned mute. ’What?’ This small icon in her hand, is the thing that almost choked her before, and if not for her instincts asking her to keep this, she might have thrown it away. ’It’s the key... a broken one.’
A key to what? Remira didn’t know, but she did ask a question. "If mine is useless, where is yours?" She asked, looking at the man who seemed to be looking for an intact key. Though she had already anticipated the answer.
Why was Malidi stuck here for so long?
Why did he ask for a rescue?
From what Remira understood of the scenarios, as long as you are strong enough, there is no need to fear these small words that contain the memories of the past. But then another question appeared, if it was so simple, then why is there none that survived it till now? There ought to be something, isn’t there?
That was her belief at first, and the answer to it? Well, that was the small icon in her hand, the ticket, if those great figures that once entered this place throw it away or destroy it out of ignorance? One can imagine their fate.
Though if Remira heard Malidi’s words correctly, she somehow cheated and earned the ire of this place, it wouldn’t be long before she would also be stuck here like the many before her.
So two methods of being stuck here, so which was Malidi?
"Born of my origin, I absorbed it," Malidi spoke in words that lacked heavy context, but the gist of it all was, that Malidi somehow ate or destroyed his totem, which might be why he is stuck here. And from the looks of it, he needs someone else’s key to escape from this place, a bit pathetic and even evil in her eyes.
Isn’t this action tantamount to dooming the person he took the key from?
Which makes this whole mission a suicide mission.
’Did Sheva know this?’ Remira wondered for a bit before shaking her head. She doesn’t believe that was the case, and even if it wasn’t, it’s not like she will be stuck here forever. Unlike others she had seen that this place was not impenetrable, there were ways for beings of a certain stature to break it open.
’The question is, would the First Knight rescue me again?’ In a certain way, she went against the First Knight’s will and went back into this place. Then again, she wondered if the First Knight cared about it if at all. It might just be a whim, or the fact that she was saved by the First Knight a lie made by that Jellyfish, all in an attempt to force her to summon that great being to him.
It felt dirty to Remira, that Jellyfish had helped her too much for her to be suspicious of him now... the paranoia she had developed through her life really is not good sometimes.
"If you take away another’s key, won’t they be stuck here?"
"No...and don’t disturb me, enough time wasted due to you." He shooed at Remira as if to escape this whole conversation, to which Remira agreed at the moment.
’No need to rush, thirteen days of time, there are ways to make this man talk.’
With those thoughts, Remira went around and started to look at the small library with light steps, sadly, the majority of the books were written in text alien to her, and some didn’t even have anything in them, just pure blank paper that alone gave Remira’s mind with mental pollution. "Not for me.’ Don’t bite more than you can chew, this place is obviously not meant for her or someone of her level. ’ But this old man, he can read them without an issue?’ Malidi being a feeble old guy, never even flinched while reading such books.
He even had a smile on his face from time to time, showing how much he enjoyed the content of these books. ’Just how strong is he actually?
Malidi was a scholar with a feeble body, that was much noticeable from Remira’s perspective.
His body had neither magic nor any vitality of a Knight. If not for the fact that this old man had lived for over three hundred years, Remira might have considered him to be a mortal.
Which really would have made it far easier for him to meld into the public places, probably why he had gone unnoticed for so long.

"Hmm, fate truly is a wonderful thing," Alabasta spoke, looking toward the woman who had appeared to him out of nowhere. It was none other than the Priestess of Cold Corpses who had frozen an entire lake with her domain, as well as the ghosts that dwelled in it. "Far faster than I, truly can’t underestimate the experience that comes with age." Alabasta gave this woman a deep look who also took her time before saying. "Our goals somewhat align, so I wonder if you would wanna learn from your senior for a bit?"
The strength of Alabasta exceeded that of the priestess, but what he lacked was the applications of Domains ow how to manipulate his new-found strength and abilities.
Time was too short for him to hone them, so some words of wisdom from a veteran legend weren’t much of an issue. Well, that was only if the person was not this woman.
’Unpredictable, she hides something, but she won’t harm us...’ Certain rules were established between the churches since the Crusade days. To maintain their hegemony and strength, the churches as well as the Knight order disallow their followers from fighting each other, for they might start a new holy war.
"I don’t see an issue with it." Of course, Alabasta won’t delve into these thoughts anymore. It mattered not what she planned to do, as long as she remained out of his way, she could even go and kill that Farhad kid if she wanted.
That’s how Alabasta saw this whole thing.
"Then let’s keep going." There was no need for any further considerations. Both already had their fair share of discussions while outside not too long ago, so this meeting can be considered a good occurrence.
In a way, after learning that they were after different things, Alabasta has chosen to let her do what she wants. ’If it’s the demon she is looking for, then it’s that Monster’s creation.’ It wasn’t hard for him to think who she was speaking of, the only one that would meet the conditions of being a Demon.
A monster that grew to the Grandmaster realm in a couple of dozen years. Showing his potential and the danger he might pose.
Sadly, the same view was not held by Remira, an ignorant little lamb that was still too blinded by her emotions and guilt, but this is where Alabasta’s job lies, to correct the mistakes of the youth.
