Chapter 550: 8.14.2 Lady lies revelation.
The prestige of Cynark was once brought down multiple levels after their defeat at the hands of a small nation of Yethel. They were mocked and harassed by their neighbors, who considered it a sign of weakness.
This is why the Mehmet’s castle was dragged toward them, as a deterrence. Specifically toward Sumire, considering they were the proxy of Azad on the Brihma Continent. Though the war still broke out, it might be due to the deterrence of the mage castle, but Sumire didn’t try to be any audacious in their attacks.
It was closer to harassment, a low-level one where mostly the lower-level soldiers lost their lives, and nothing more.
It was closer to Sumire putting on an act to satisfy their backers. Even with Cynark’s defeat at the hands of Yethel, those in the know understood why Cynark suffered such a loss and why the story would be different if on their border.
So although they kept scratching Cynark, they never dared to venture too deep or create a deeper gash on them.
However, all of this moderation went out of the window with the disaster that happened in Rudrain.
And it was a disaster, a million people dead, entire noble families, deleted off the face of the earth.
However, that was nothing when compared to the Church of Truthful Deceit and how after the incident they closed down their doors, never daring to answer a word about what happened or how many of their own died.
But those in the know had an approximate idea, which made them smirk a bit.
The old church with its tight grip over the judiciary as well as intelligence of Cynark had chosen to back off and leave their positions, a sign that the damage they suffered due to this battle was not little.
This brought in further chaos, as nobles as well as officials tried their best to fill in the emptied seats with their own men, hoping for a place within the government.
Though at this moment, Deimos appeared and suppressed the chaos with his tight grip, before making his own men take over the empty positions. An act not well-liked by the majority of the parties, as it would mean the Royal family would have a tighter grip over Cynark. But with the situation being too treacherous, none dared to voice their opinion.
Not to mention, Deimos had promised that his men were only there temporarily until appropriate workers and officials were trained for the empty positions, which might take at least a year.
Although not well-liked by nobles, it did suppress their ire for a bit, while Deimos and the Mage Fortress focused their sight on the Hyenas that had started to act seeing an opportunity.
Though the first to act at full force was not Sumire, after learning all the happenings in the Cynark, they had remained quiet for a bit. Which did confuse Langfurt, a country that was in a cooperative relationship with them.
However, the reason was much different than one might expect.
Unlike Sumire, who was directly backed by the Tyrant of Azhad, Ibin Oon Tuglak. Langfurt, although backed by Azhad as well, differed on who it was from Azhad that backed them.
It was the alliance of Warlords some of whom once used to reside in Yethel at one point, though most still belong to the land of Azhad, in the service of the Tyrant only in a cooperative way. They didn’t bother to directly come under the Tyrant’s service.
The reasons for that can be left to the latter.
Back in Langfurt, they and Sumire did work together, but they were never actually friends in the truest sense. So both sides were used to hiding certain things from each other.
Which might have been the reason why Langfurt ended up turning into the sacrifice.
"They dare?" The last few months have been frustrating. The humiliation of the war with Yethel was not gone yet, but a bigger tragedy befell their nation, and now there were some fools at the border stirring up trouble.
"Are you sure My liege? Once we do, there is no going back." At the current moment, a discussion was happening between the two surviving brothers from the old generation of Royals, along with many other officials, including the other two Generals and the protector of the nations, AKA the legendary beings.
"Enough humiliation, we won’t take any prisoners, we won’t hold back on cities, let them learn what happens if they dare to become too arrogant." And the King, although knowing the consequences ended up starting a full-on war with Langfurt.
A war that many experts have considered going on for a few months at least, and the losses might be equal considering the resources Langfurt had access to. Specifically powerful mercenaries and warlords that each held entire armies at their beckoning.
Though the result of this war?
One-sided slaughter.
Cynark didn’t back down. Although they didn’t bother using mage armor and other experimental weapons in their hands, they did use the War Fortress, as well as their newest weapon of horror, Farhad.
"This is wonderful." Looking around, surrounded by multiple enemy combatants, a smile appeared on Farhad’s face. "I was born for war." Far different from the Farhad he once used to be. At this very moment, there was no guilt left on Farhad’s face as he used his flames, his flesh, and his ability to fight with a never-ending vigor to burn through enemy troupes all on his own.
Even the sun could do nothing in front of him, as his regeneration far exceeded the purification power of the sun, not to mention, the abilities he copies from the ghoul nest. He had developed a level of immunity to the sun.
Though why use it when his burning flesh can act as an armor of its own? Which made the slaughter much easier for him, as his body contorted and changed to suit the requirement, earning him the nickname of Flesh Flame Demon. Which Farhad didn’t like much at first, though he soon started to enjoy this name, a bit too much.
"Life feels freer with no Jester at the head." The last few years had been too silent, which made it so that Farhad had long lost all fear of Jester, as he understood that something had happened to him.
This much was easy to understand as the connection between the two was too strong. And with his absence, a part of his mind was liberated, making it easier for him to live the way he wanted.
’No, wake up Farhad.’ Spoke something in his mind, but Farhad ignored it, focusing on destroying the enemies as much as he could.
******
"You are enjoying it, aren’t you?" A female voice came, sounding some words to a figure that sat with his legs crossed and his eyes closed.
"Is it wrong to enjoy in this life?"
"The Wortham I knew would have taken the matters into his hands after seeing such tragedy."
"The ones to blame are my dear nephews, they were greedy, fearful as well as lazy. They suffered for their folly." Wortham spoke, to the woman whose body was slowly growing at a slow pace.
This was Lady Lies that Duke Wortham Saved not too long ago. And unlike what many in her church believed, she was alive and well.
"Instead, it can be said that I am showing them kindness because, for such a level of inadequacy, I would have whipped them myself," Wortham answered Lady’s lies, though he didn’t bother to turn his head toward, to show how lightly he treated this conversation.
Though it was not his emotions that disappointed Lady lies, but his words. "The things that happened in the past..."
"This conversation holds no value in my heart, the lives come and go, and their deaths are their fault alone. And besides, caring for mortal lives? It’s not something I care to hear from your mouth."
Hearing such words, Lady Lies just smiled lightly and shook her head in disappointment.
"You know, she wouldn’t be happy to see what you have become."
"Don’t live in what ifs, she is dead, and it’s foolish to think about what my sister would have liked or not." Duke Wortham spoke, showing a hint of emotion that was absent in his tone from before.
"Wortham, we both know what she would have liked... you should have at least tried to save her last descendant, stop his from causing all ..."
"Silence! Not one word about my sister, or I will feed you to wolves again and again."
"..." Lady Lies fell silent, looking at the teen with rosy cheeks, she felt some pity. The world truly is a bizarre place. ’That foolish boy, does he know who he is?" She wondered.
Although the majority of people might not have noticed it, those closer to the Royal family were well aware of the talent that Rosso showed in the public, at least the blood aspect of it.
’One of the Bloodhearts still lives. An awakened one.’
