Chapter 519: 8.07.4 I messed up.
The morning came and went fast, and by the time Rosso woke up, many things had already transpired in the city he remained unaware of.
And how would he? His body was in a state of collapse, with most of his energy being drained after constant use of the Curse of Isolation, which gave him no moment of respite.
Even at this moment, after waking from his dream in the small resting hut along the farm, the little sleep he had, didn’t help him at all.
Instead, all it made him aware of was the fact that his body was truly not in the right state, simple rest like this wouldn’t do. With the enemies he had to face, a greater strength was needed—a greater foundation to use some other secrets of his body.
From a greater foundation, Rosso meant a stronger body, that could handle the curses and bloodline arts that he was capable of materializing. "Curse, it’s the easiest." With that in mind, Rosso soon reached the area where he was meant to meet the contact who would tell him about what he desired along with some knowledge on how to hide his face.
The area he came to was an open lake that smelled bad for some odd reason.
The smell of stagnant water, the smell of rot, this was a poisoned lake, as for how and why, Rosso didn’t know, nor was he interested in it. As for why they contacted this place for the meeting, Rosso didn’t know but could somewhat ascertain from the scene in front of him. "Truly no one." Besides a few dead trees at the edge of this rotten lake, there was no sign of any life around the lake.
"Perfect, isn’t it?" A voice came from Rosso’s back, startling him. "You..." And he really was startled, because it was someone he had met before.
"No way, this can’t be." He thought, mixing bits and pieces together, thinking that he might have made a mistake before.
"I had thought the same when I learned that the infamous Blood Flower Fiend was you." The girl giggled in a kind voice, before handing a small bracelet to Rosso. "I believe this is yours." She said with some shyness.
The bracelet initially was given to the priest called Halbrand when he came for answers in Heroth’s shop. But eh subsequent events made it so that the bracelet was dropped and no one even bothered with it due to the panic caused by the old man’s sudden transformation. Hence, it ended up falling into Arahi’s hand.
And it was this bracelet due to which the girl appeared in confidence, but the more she looked at Rosso, the redder her cheeks turned. This can be considered a tad bit ironic considering that is how Rosso felt not so long ago whenever he saw her.
This time as well, he felt pretty much the same, but with the two meetings he had before and the experiences since then, he was used to her face by now and hence able to hold in his intentions as well as he used to do.
"You, are you the one sending me messages?" Rosso asked, taking the bracelet off and finding a hint of odd energy on it, which he purified easily.
This was truly nothing, this energy was just enough to be considered remnant radiation from someone truly strong, and Rosso had seen this thing multiple times before, so he didn’t turn this into an issue and directly went to a question that had irked him for a while.
"No." The girl said, showing a small pager of her own, though this one was a bit stylish and covered in accessories. "I also receive my orders from my boss. Though I have met her before." At those words, Rosso finally had some information on the person who had been helping him for a while, so he stopped, intending to ask more questions, which the girl answered truthfully, showing a personality far from the feeble one she showed in the shop all along.
"Just ask away, my Boss had told me to speak off that I know, of course this is baring certain lady things... I won’t be telling you those at all." And she seemed a bit feisty, again turning red as she spoke those words, which confused Rosso a bit.
But he was not one to fall for the honey trap.
"The old man, is the follower of Jester as well?" Rosso knew that calling the Jester his creator would be a bit controversial and might give something away, so he just used the term that most of his followers used.
Just a simple Jester or Rat King, and rarely some fanatics would add Lord or God before his name. But among the core members, just a simple Jester or Rat King usually suffices. Which is what he used at this moment.
"No not at all, I was deployed as a spy in that shop to keep an eye on that weird old man. And although I thought he was simple at the start... well now that we are already on the topic, I think you should know." As Arahi was speaking about Heroth, she suddenly paused gave Rosso a deep look, and sighed for a bit.
The reason for this meeting was very simple, and generally, the meeting was meant to be short as well. But due to the prior relationship, the two had, some questions needed to be answered for better cooperation in the future, otherwise, this man who is known as the Blood Flower Fiend might take offense.
She can’t afford to consider what this madman was capable of.
"Why the sudden pause?" Rosso wondered before his eyes turned a bit dark. Already assuming the worst considering the topic of the conversation from before.
"The man is the one you had been looking for all this while, we only confirmed it not too long ago, and from the information we received last night, this is something we can confirm." As those words left Arahi’s lips, a hint of annoyance appeared on Rosso’s face.
’I messed up.’ He thought, considering how he had used that old man as a distraction and put him against the church of Truth, the chances of him ever receiving any information on the man he was looking for was slim.
"Hah!’ And seeing the look on Rosso’s face, Arahi backed off for a bit, fearing any kind of mad retaliation. Which actually never came.
’It makes sense, now that I think about it.’ Rosso had been looking for that old scholar who was the only one who could save his Creator from the current predicament, but instead of finding that old man, he had learned that the Radiant Knights were doing pretty much the same and had entered the city while following the traces of a man that might know the answer.
Considering the time when the shop was opened, which had learned pretty easily by talking to some of the other shop owners on the very street. It can be seen that the shop owner was also new to the city, just like him, albeit a few months older.
Considering his strength, or the part of what he saw in that old man, it can be confirmed that the man was here hiding from something, someone, or some group.
But there was one issue. "The Radiant Knights were following the target for so long, why would they leave him alone for so long in peace? This doesn’t make sense." Rosso had known of the Radiant Knights’s activity in other districts for a long time, but they barely had any existence in the city streets of Southern districts.
"That might be partially our fault, we kept them occupied... though it’s not like the old man was not attacked by them. From what I had learned from the master, an old man was jumped in the southern district half a year ago before the neighbors came to his rescue."
"But before the police can arrive on the scene, the victims had already disappeared from his savior’s home, leaving a few coins in return." A story like this can be considered hearsay, if not for those gold coins that can be considered physical proof of this small incident happening before. "You know the state of this city, few dare to be audacious here, besides our group that is."
Call it a group, religion, or cult, she felt proud that only her group had enough balls to stand up to the fascist monsters of this corrupted country.
Though what was her political beliefs, Rosso was not interested. He just found it hard to come to terms with the fact that the old man he had been looking for all this while had been in the open, running a pawn shop that he visited inadvertently due to money issues.
’This is messed up.’ Were the only words left in his mouth.
