Chapter 495: 8.02.3 Travelling light.

The news that Rosso learned recently was horrendous. "It’s closing?" The informant through whom he had learned about the Bartender’s Guild, had given him devastating news. "Following the recent events, some things happened among the topside, which has forced the guild to close its doors."

"Though don’t worry too much. The only thing that has stopped is them not taking any new stints. So you are still safe." If things had ended there, it wouldn’t have been much of an issue, considering he had already paid enough for his request and the additional payment will probably depend on how hard to find his target was.

This is why Rosso, although a bit worried, initially didn’t take this seriously. It was a big mistake on his part as he went on to visit the Bar where he initially placed his request, the answer he got was frustrating, to say the least. "We have been able to obtain the details on the newly arrived members of the Radiant Order, but nothing more about the old individual you were looking for... nor can we take the chance to look for him at the payment we previously agreed on."

"Attempting to fleece me for a problem that has nothing to do with my request. This won’t look good on you." Rosso spoke with some annoyance. "And didn’t you people say that the prior request will be maintained?"

"That is for requests that have been fulfilled till now... please understand our position, any activity on our end will easily be noticed by our competitors... Even 40 grams of purple iron won’t be able to help much."

Four coins that he had at hand were not enough for this request. "If you had focused on this request from the start, none of this would have happened."

"I apologize." After a bit of complaining on Rosso’s end, he directly went on to the topic. "You said 4 coins are not enough, meaning a few more, and you can take the chance?" At such a question, the woman nodded.

"Then tell me how much." Following those questions, she wrote down the figures on the paper and slid it to Rosso, who read it and left the bar without much emotion.

120,000 Dirium which amounted to 12 purple coins. A kind of money he hadn’t ever seen in his life. ’The situation is troublesome.’ They have given him a week to collect money before their search resumes, and if he is delayed for more than a week, the request will be canceled.

’Well, there is no choice left.’ With such thoughts, Rosso understood that he had to lighten up his inventory if he had to look around the city. This is why he made his way to the closest pawnshop he could find and entered it without a moment’s notice.

Which might have been a big mistake.

After a bit of pause, looking at the young girl who seemed to be around the same age as his current body, Rosso accidentally blurted out. "You are beautiful." The words were instinctual. Words that went against his nature as a cold calculating tool of a human.

He shouldn’t think of a thing as beautiful, he shouldn’t be so driven by emotions to speak his thoughts out loud so easily. He... this was not him.

Suppressing his own emotions that felt alien as well as familiar to him, he apologized to the young lady who blushed over Rosso’s sudden confession before saying. "Please assess the value of this bracelet."

The girl with a bandaged hand and a monocle on her eye appeared as something straight out of a painting in his eyes, igniting emotions in Rosso that he never even thought existed. "A bracelet made from the fangs of a supernatural beast... this, this is not a simple product."

The girl on the other hand, after recovering from the sudden confession, went back to her work. Though it would be a lie to say she was not interested in the boy who appeared out of nowhere in front of her.

A boy with a bright face and weak existence that should generally stand out among the group of common masses, but for some reason, his face also appeared mediocre, almost forgettable. ’Such an odd face.’ She mused, before focusing on her job again.

The bracelet appeared crudely made on the surface. Created with the teeth of animals and beads that appeared like those fake pearls that had recently flooded the market.

But their unnatural shape and the certain odd energy behind each of the objects stuck in the bracelet told a different story. Even smelling it didn’t help, as all she could smell was the smell of fresh blood. Though with how much she has experienced, she understood that this was not human blood, but that of a sheep.

Which was enough to let Arahi understand that this object’s mysteries exceeded her level. Well, not much can be done with a month of practice anyways, so she with a defeated sigh, requested for the old man to come down.

Who seemed to be coming down along with his small guest who already seemed drunk and required support from Heroth while walking down the stairs.

"Raja, you sure about this?

"Hic... Don’t worry Mister Heroth, I can hand.. *hic. This much without worry. I am a bartender for god’s sake." As Raja spoke those words, he slowly stumbled out of the shop without worry.

Though Rosso was not interested in Raja, nor how he was a Master Ranked individual who claimed himself to be a Bartender.

No, his focus was attracted by something else. Something horrific. "You." He said, before closing his right eye.

He had made a mistake coming here, he had walked right into a monster’s mouth. But it was due to the fear of this monster that he couldn’t appear scared. "Please assess the value of my Heirloom." He added some more story to the bracelet, letting the old man Heroth sober up a bit, before approaching the counter and asking. "You... are you being a joker? Why close that eye of yours?"

"An old issue," Rosso spoke before wiping around the edge of his eye. "My tear ducts were damaged due to an accident," He spoke, showing a bit of redness to the tears in his eye. Which made Heroth back off. "I apologize... my mind is not so active at the moment. So I might make some mistake."

With those words, Heroth took the monocle from Arahi and gave the bracelet a deeper look. "A Fenrir’s tooth in the center... it’s an extinct beast from the olden times... as for the pearls, all of them contain protection runes within them... this is a genuine artifact of Mage origins."

"Can you ascertain the price?"

"You don’t seem that surprised over its origins, young man."

"I had been aware of it somewhat."

Generally one doesn’t talk about the background of an object to be pawned, or where the seller obtained it from. Which was why Rosso didn’t go into too much detail.

"Then you should have some idea of what it does?" Rosso asked, holding a hint of curiosity over the object.

The mage he obtained it from never really said a thing about the bracelet. It was only due to the magic patterns that his right eye detected that Rosso chose to keep it with him. As for its actual value or usage?

He was not aware of it at all.

"Auto-defense, it can protect you from any attack of Adept level once a day... it’s a priceless protection treasure, whose value might match even weapons of Master grade.... Expected market value is around 20 million."

"Huh?"

Twenty million.

That money... that amount of money far exceeded his expectations. ’This is not something you show to just anyone.’ Rosso looked at the pawn shop owner, the monster who appeared human now that his right eye was closed, but it didn’t mean he had put down his guard.

Instead, he appeared like a scared cat at the moment, wondering if the Pawn shop owner would kill him right here just to shut him up.

"Young man, this is a hot potato in your hand, I don’t know who you are, but if you showed it to someplace else, you would probably not end well." Heroth noticed the fear in the eyes of the young man and hence explained it clearly.

He was not the kind to steal the lollipop out of a child’s mouth, nor did he hold interest in this item at all.

"Sir, I would hope if you don’t tell anyone else about the bracelet’s existence."

"Don’t worry, everything that happens in the pawnshop remains in the pawnshop. No word of it will go out." Heroth handed back the bracelet to Rosso while suggesting. "And instead of selling, I would say that you should utilize it... it’s not every day you find something so special. Who knows, it might just save your life one day." Heroth was in his old age, making him develop a habit of giving odd suggestions to those younger than him.

It was his time to nag at others like his captain once did with him.

"... This..." And Rosso also didn’t know what to do. Of course, he was happy to learn how useful this bracelet was, and if the old man stood up to his words, then nothing would happen to him as long as the bracelet remained hidden. However, the issue with the payment for his request still remains.

He needed a way to make some money and this was the only extra thing he carried on him.

Rosso believed in traveling light, and now that habit has come to bite him in the ass.
