Chapter 463: 7.19.3 The massacre.
Even if I had the same level of talent for absorbing nutrients from the land as my old Master Max. I won’t be able to do it for long.
The ghouls were going crazy at the moment after the battle that happened underground, causing their herds to break apart and causing them to move like headless chickens all over the battlefield.
Which was proof that their leader was no more.
Meaning even if I had the time to set my feet in a place, there would be some ghouls to disturb me.
Not to mention the mages that were ticked off at the moment, flying through the air from time to time to look for something.
’Hmm.’ I can’t change it at all. Although tired due to the long journey, there was no time to waste, I had to meet with my new friend and return to the city to do some little feisty things. ’Ho.’ it’s why I ran in a hurry, staying away from the eyes of the mages, I didn’t even bother hijacking trucks this time as due to the heightened security.
I can’t afford to attract the eyes of Grandmaster at the moment.
All these precautions also led me to face intense struggles along the way. ’These ghouls even ate the ground rats that once lived here.’ I could sense the traces of their souls. The souls of little rats were devoured by the soulless beast-like ghouls.
’Ho.’ It felt bad knowing that a nutritional food was stolen from my mouth, but I still had to move. I need to keep moving if I hope to achieve what I came here to achieve.
However as I traveled, my eyes lit up, turning to look in the direction of the city. ’Ho, so he received it by now.’ My first knight will be born in a while, which means that I finally can be considered a true totem.
But this was not time to worry about him, that is just one of the pieces of this large puzzle, his true value is not even in his strength, but something else.
However that something else won’t show its value so early in the game. So wait for it my audience.

"They seemed panicked." Amir looked at the camp which was barely able to protect itself from the ghoul attacks a day ago.
"Sir, we lost all our leadership in a day, and even after request, no one sent us help till you came." A captain of the camp who had been holding the fort and acted as the leader spoke with sweat flowing from their forehead.
He was merely an apprentice Knight, born among commoners and only obtaining his bloodline through the Church of Plagues. Meaning, he was not even a commanding officer, but closer to a Medic that dealt with injuries that the soldiers sustained in the battle.
The only reason he was able to obtain the command of the camp was because Ludwig and all his men were called back for questioning over Lucius’s accident. A fact that no one was aware of, and in their eyes, all they understood was that their leadership was called back for some odd reason.
"I am not reprimanding you. With most of the force leaving the camp, it’s a miracle you have been able to sustain yourself well for the past two days. You don’t need to be so hard on yourself Captain Love." The name might sound odd to some, but this is generally how the names of some commoners are. They don’t care about surnames and pick the names that carry the emotions of their parents.
It can be seen that Captain Love, who became a Knight from the Church of Plague was truly a kind person. This is the reason why there was so much respect for this person in the camp, and everyone considered him the undisputed leader after most had already left. "Don’t be so hard on yourself, do you know how bad things are in other places? The amount of casualties that happened even after they had Master rank knights sitting in the camp?"
"I, I just did as Commander Ludwig asked me to, just defend passively."
"Yes, and most people can’t even do something as simple as that. So don’t look down on yourself and take a rest, let me and my men handle the rest." All of these were spoken by Amir, he didn’t appear as cold and callus as he used to generally, but approachable and kind to the horrid soldiers who seemed to have lost all their will in the two days they were without a leader.
"This was a scout outpost with battle capacity, Go and make sure we have enough provisions and ammunition until the next supply truck arrives." The men he brought with him consisted of a new set of individuals that were given to him by General Vera as direct support. So although they didn’t know what kind of person Prince Amir was, they still listened to him without question just due to their respect for the General.
And they did as was ordered.
Although Amir found many stations lacking and inefficient use of resources the moment he entered the camp, he didn’t say such things to the little medic who took over the responsibility, there was not much to say to the people who did their best in a situation they didn’t ever trained for.
But Amir was different, he had trained for a scenario like this for ages. So there was not much worry on his face even after learning the amount of bullets that were wasted in the last few days.
’Everything is manageable.’ Amir has to accept one fact, even a Medic of Ludwig’s camp can show some capability, which made him truly curse his fate for obtaining such inferior Knights of his own.
The only good one still remains Hemant, the rest, he can’t trust his back to them no matter what happens.
"By the evening, I plan the scouting work of the outpost to resume again." This was the goal he set for himself.
A goal that seemed impossible after he felt some tremors in the camp, followed by ghouls coming from all directions.
’What is going on?"
*****
There existed multiple ghoul nests under the ground of the battlefield, but the majority of them were small, most of them barely had even grade one level of ghoul in them.
But it didn’t mean that the case for the same for all the nest.
"ROARRRR!" Came the sound from multiple nests, riling up the ghouls and causing what seemed like a flood of ghouls to attack all the human encampments close to them.
But along with the roar came the full force of the Cynark military.
As if they were ready for the attack of this level from the start, the sky had lit up with spells and the attacks of grand master-ranked Knights like General Vera, who left scars on the land under their might.
It was like a scene from the fight between the gods against demons, a one-sided onslaught with some collateral damage to boot.
Damage that no one would even speak of again.
But I could see all of that damage clearly.
’Ho, they killed more than me.’ The souls of the soldiers who were just doing their job, burning up ghoul nests one after another.
They were caught up in this attack, they were sacrificed without a moment’s notice.
’Their souls scream in agony.’ If there was no war on the frontline against Yethel, maybe the Grandmaster Ranks wouldn’t have to make such a drastic move. They might still have a leeway while dealing with this issue.
But no, the leadership of Cynark treated it more as an opportunity to deal massive damage to the ghoul herd.
Otherwise, if they used the old method, after the initial outburst, most of these ghouls would have returned to their nest and then kept the stalemate going that they had done so for the last few weeks.
’Ho, I should move.’ The damage done in this place was immense, and my journey became also worse as I had to jump in and out of countless craters and the burnt flesh of ghouls and some humans alike.
"So much wastage, I wonder how much Farhad would have grown if he had eaten all of this." Knowing the talents of the Ghoul King, I wondered.
Ghoul king, the immortal king, or the lord of all that was rotten. That was the name given to the ghoul king of the old.
A true disaster over the world, he had brought chaos throughout history due to how hard he was to kill.
Even a single piece of his flesh can bring that old disaster back to life. So one must wonder, why don’t people just purify the whole existence of the ghoul king, to begin with?
Well, that is the issue, that even I can’t be sure of because I am in the know that some gods have tried their hands at it, and none have succeeded till now.
Truly an existence that needs to be sealed rather than killed.
’No, sustained development is enough, he was in the nest, he must have learned that he could absorb the abilities of ghouls for himself, so he won’t be foolish enough to not use this talent to the fullest... I know him, he won’t make a foolish choice.’
The true nature of that precious rat Grifter, only I knew of it even if Grifter denies it.
’Hoping our next meeting will be awesome.’
