Chapter 454: 7.17.3 A simple plan.
"As our comrade just said... things are bad at the moment, but they aren’t that bad. The best choice for us would be to bid our time like he has always done."
"I agree with the leader... these are not the old times, there are soldiers on the ground, mages in the air, and most of all, the ghouls that are causing the issues. For us mortals, it’s impossible to reach our target unless we are ready to sacrifice numerous us."
"That’s now a fight for freedom, that’s just suicide."
"..."
Various ideas were flunked over the details that they learned through the map.
There were ways, using the simple trenches as well as tunnels to move from one camp to another.
But with these ghouls roaming all around at random, there was a high chance that they would be exposed pretty easily. Not to mention, they can’t go in a big group anyway, as the chances of being exposed will just become greater.
"This might feel hopeless... and most of you must be thinking, how can a bunch of farmers like us take out a government facility? Even in operations before, many among us have lost their lives just for us to gain a small amount of ammunition and weapons. So the losses in this mission would obviously be greater."
"But that’s what we are fighting for, its darkest before the dawn and we are in those dark times... even if people die, sacrifices are necessary for a greater future."
"Enough about this... no one is going out of Dome till the war situation stabilizes."
"We have to think something smaller, something local."
"What do you mean?"
"The focus is on the ghouls as well as securing their supply lines. Most of which move from this city."
"And if we were to disturb the supply chains, then the war on the frontline would obviously suffer."
"This... this seems like a perfect idea... but let’s add something more... let’s spread chaos in the Dorian street."
"What do you mean?"
"Dorian Street is occupied by the Mafia and adventurers... they take in money to do any work that is thrown their way... making it dangerous for our goal. You should understand why I am saying this."
At those words, the men turned silent.
And why should they? Recently from what they have learned, a huge portion of Adventurers as well as Mercenaries from Dorian Street were being employed by the nobles as well as Mage families in Durum.
"Disturbing that place takes priority... preferable if we can someone make the trust between those blood-sucking nobles and these mercenaries break down... I bet they will start forcing the military to take over their protection."
"Hmm... I, too, had a similar idea, but doesn’t seem plausible. Causing chaos is easy, but causing mistrust to form between those two?"
"Of course, it would be hard... it’s hard to build discourse among this kind of people."
"Hmm."
A simple mind manipulation, using the dream to implant certain ideas in the minds of these helpless fools while making them think they thought of such things on their own.
Even the entire discussion between the leaders of the rebel group was carefully crafted by me to stop them from making any stupid mistakes.
Which can be seen from how sensible they speak today.
"I... I might have a clue on how we can do this."
"??" The eyes of the people turned to a woman who covered her head with a hood. "Comrade Dust, speak of it... no need to worry, everyone is equal here."
"... I had met with a Yethel assassin before and before disappearing, he bragged about killing a dozen or so nobles while entering the city."
"... You must be joking... " the man said, before pausing and asking. "Have you confirmed it?"
"The bodies? I sent one of my clones and confirmed it with my own eyes... the rot hasn’t set in probably due to their bloodline, so if we move on time, we might be able to use them."
"Use them... Oh... this, this is a good idea if what you say is true."
At first, they didn’t think what this comrade Dust of theirs was speaking was true or not, but whether it was true or not, one thing was true for certain.
If a bunch of dead nobles were to appear in the center of Dorian street, one can imagine that a level of distrust would obviously form between the two parties.
"If we succeed in doing it... we might be able to weaken the military presence in the city by a huge margin."
"Yes... still depends on whether what Comrade claimed is true... though there is also the issue of moving the bodies.... None of the tunnels we have dug had reached Dorian street till now.’
"That is an issue... we can’t use sewers for this job anymore anyway... hah. First, we still have to recover the bodies and prepare some ice... we don’t want it to go bad."

And so a simple chaotic plan was made by a bunch of foolish farmers. Unaware how much of them had been manipulated just now.
As for the little girl named Comrade Dust?
Well, she looked at me as if I was some monster. "How did you make them say those things?" She asked while reeling in from the scene she had just witnessed happen in the discussion room.
"Don’t think too hard about such stuff and do your job sincerely, many lives depend on you from now on... don’t make the same mistakes you made in your youth." Coming such words out of a monkey sounded odd, but instead of being surprised the girl was horrified by my words.
Holding her head and wondering. "Did he read my mind?’ Which was true to some extent, I had to know what kind of person this last member of the Centi family was like. A fun exercise I do a lot in such weak and free minds.
"You... you are not an assassin are you?’ She asked, finding it hard to believe there would be someone like me doing something as simple as assassination.
And I nodded my head in response. "I am a follower of Jester, the god of your fellow comrades. And I was just here to make sure that no one made any foolish mistakes during such dangerous times... our great god can’t see his followers dying a nonsensical death. So he sent me to make sure that doesn’t happen." Obviously, if the deaths produce some value, I don’t mind sacrificing the whole lot for my gain.
But I was not so desperate at the moment.
"Oh, but don’t think I didn’t kill the Prince as I had claimed... though the news might be suppressed. The higher-ups of the city are in panic, and if I am not wrong, you might be hearing that your precious mayor is dead in a couple of weeks at most."
"So enjoy the peace and quiet till then."
"You..."
At my words, she had turned silent for a bit, appearing confused and somewhat lost.
"You... you said you killed an Imperial?’ She asked as if to confirm what I said.
"Killing him is the same as killing yourself, so I never did kill him. But I did kill his spirit, his desire to live along with the capability to think... he is just a living corpse at this point."
"...."
"Feeling lost are you... the thing you wanted to do for so long, achieved in under a day?" I asked, seeing Lavani turn her eyes to me. "Don’t be sad, if you want to kill someone with your own hands, there will be loads of opportunity if you are able to join our organization... we always need resourceful people like you."
*****
"Ok, we stop here today the ghouls seem to have noticed the oddity today and less and less seem to ambush us anymore."
"Still they do it, meaning they have some hope in this path to the surface... "
"Not for long Grand Master Vance... These things might appear like pests, but they are not so stupid."
"As the higher the density of there’s the higher the chance of variant ones with higher intelligence to be born." Priest Boman used to be active in the field during his younger days and hence he had come across various kinds of abominations throughout his life.
Meaning this was not so new to him, unlike Vance, who had mostly lived in the headquarters of the Radiant order and then done some missions here and there before ascending to the Grandmaster level all due to his monstrous talent.
So although Boman can’t compare to him in strength alone. When it comes to knowledge and experience, he was way ahead of Vance.
"Going any deeper is just going to scare them?’ Vance asked and Boman nodded in response. "If we kept at it, they will know that a strong enemy has arrived and they might just give up this tunnel... we can’t let them do it. Let them think that they have a fighting chance." Sometimes intelligence can be treated like a curse and Boman loved to mess up with his enemies a lot.
It was under such reasoning that Boman after establishing a perimeter around the ghoul nest, that he chose to go back.
However what he failed to notice all this time was Farhad, who secretly used an exposed part of his left to selectively absorb pieces of ghoul flesh that he found were more special than the rest.
’This was a success.’
