Chapter 452: 7.17.1 The weird Prince.
Was it fate that brought him here?
No, that was not it.
’That man is dangerous.’ He felt instinctively that he had been eyed by a predator. Although this monster hid his eyes in order to not attract attention, Amir was not the like to ignore such a direct threat to him.
He liked to face his troubles directly instead of making any massive plans, that was the right he had someone strong. His thinking can be arranged for something much better, like his projects or enemies that were at a higher rank than him.
As for these Knights as well as Priest?
They were in an Army Camp, and they were among his men, so the threat to his life was minimal in this place, though the same can’t be true when these people act in the field. So he had to make sure, this opponent of theirs was not dangerous.
"This is a troublesome question, but you don’t have to worry, the identity of that individual is not some secret." Priest Boman was the one to speak while gesturing toward Farhad to come closer "Here is Knight Farhad Maisel, son of Marshal Varkus Maisel from the Special Operations. Due to circumstances, he is currently working with us."
The Church of Red Sun was the neutral party, so although Farhad belonged nowhere, he was still identified as such for people who might ask some questions.
And it’s not like there were no questions, he already had a meeting with General Vera before, who had asked something similar and was surprised to hear whose son it was.
"You boy, went through a lot." Was his response, when he met Farhad again after a long time.
As the first few times he had seen Farhad was when he was a Master Rank like Marshall Maisel and used to visit his home for some discussions.
Discussions that would sometimes be disturbed by the young playful figures of Varkus’s children, one being simple and a fool, while the other being cold and calculating, leading her brother as if she was leading a herd of sheep.
’That foolish boy had been turned into a monster.’ These were his thoughts when he learned the truth, but he kept his mouth shut and let them enter the army encampment.
"Marshall Varkus?" It was a name he hadn’t heard due to living in Luthanza, but he didn’t ask for clarification, he just looked at the priest, waiting for some more details about this individual. But none came.
"I know what you might be worried about Prince, but rest assured, with us here, no harm will approach you." On the side, Knight Vance spoke, showing a kind smile that was rare for a Knight to make in this day and age.
The smile was almost refreshing in Amir’s mind.
Who nodded. "I believe Sir Vance on this front, and I am happy that you chose to help us during such tiring times," Amir spoke, showing a hint of humility to the Knight that stabbed beside Boman. "As for this individual, I wonder..."
And the small discussion continued, the people laughed and they joked a bit.
While Farhad remained on the side, like a cold portrait of a man he was.
’This man.’ And he could feel it, this prince seemed to have felt his hunger in some way. ’This is going to be troublesome...’ Farhad’s mind was much sharper than it appeared. He knew as well that this individual was one working with his somewhat of a friend Ludwig.
He was sure of it after the small spar Prince Amir had with his cousin in the mage institute. It was there that he saw Ludwig and listened to his conversation. So as the small discussion was coming to an end. Farhad came forward on his own and explained. "Prince Amir, I would like to apologize for my prior transgression..."
"Farhad there is no need." And Priest Boman came, trying to stop Farhad from speaking any further, but he couldn’t do it on time. "... it’s just my bloodline is a bit unique, I am attracted to the flesh and blood of strong individuals... and I found you very strong."
"Hmm?"
"This... Hah, there is no need to worry about it Prince. We are keeping him with us due to the problem with his bloodline, but don’t worry, Knight Farhad is in full control, it’s just some issues that arise from time to time, nothing else." Priest Boman didn’t like that Farhad dared to intrude on their conversation, nor was it right to stop Farhad mid-sentence, as it would only create further misunderstandings between the three parties.
So he just spoke around it, playing with the act of "Knight" Farhad, although there was no true name for what he actually was.
An anomaly would be a more apt description after one thinks about it a bit more.
And this explanation did seem to work wonders, the little curiosity that Amir had in his mind disappeared soon enough, but it doesn’t mean that his interest in Farhad died as well.
’Just what kind of bloodline can make me feel fear?’ He wondered for a bit before ignoring such thoughts.
’Yes, let’s rest for now, they are here already, I can have some talk with these people later.’
*****
"What you did was dangerous." In the group, although Farhad can see that Knight Vance was obviously at a greater level than Boman, in truth, Knight Vance didn’t bother with the issues Farhad that much, he did the bare minimum, and his true focus still remained on the ghouls that were causing trouble on the outside.
And besides, wasn’t it the Red Sun’s job to handle matters relating to Farhad? So let them do such work. All Vance did was leave a bunch of his men to protect Farhad, while he left for one of the "Giant" caves that had been discovered recently.
"I already did something dangerous before... this bloodline of mine seems to be attracted to Prince... all of them." He had known this since long ago, since meeting Ludwig for a short while. But he thought it was just normal hunger at that time.
But since the day he saw Amir and Lucius fight, he understood that things were not so simple.
"You were created by the hands of this nation’s enemy, so it isn’t bizarre when one thinks about it."
As for who that enemy was, Boman was very much sure of his true existence. Though he had believed that thing had long died with Yethel and had been living in ignorance till now. "Your father saved my life, so I intend to pay him back for his kindness, so try to prevent similar mistakes from happening again... we don’t want others to get too curious about you."
"They will obviously be when I fight outside, they will notice the oddities and my lack of bloodline strength, so isn’t it better that we just exposed part of the issues to the public already?"
There was not only Amir that found him weird, due to the clothes he wore to protect himself from the sun, among a group of Church Knights, he sorely stood out. But due to the identity of those that surrounded him, none had dared to question him. As for some who did, the small entourage of Military knights pushed them away by simple excuse.
But Amir was not someone who could be easily pushed away.
"And besides, didn’t you notice that this prince is not so simple, others in his place would just look from a distance while sending one of their lackeys to request for audience, following the normal formalities. But this one did nothing." As Farhad spoke, even Boman’s eyes shined with some understanding.
’Either one of the useless ones or one with immense confidence in his authority.’
The strength of an individual never mattered to people like Boman.
Here he was, speaking on the same level as the recently ascended Grandmaster Radiant Knight Vance Clifford, and most of the time, he overpowers such an individual on a regular basis due to his identity as well as backing.
"Then I guess what you did was good enough... but I would prefer if you remain quiet the next time something similar happens. You should know your true purpose of being here." As he spoke Farhad turned silent.
Of course, he knew, the original intention was just to be a figurehead. The only reason he started taking part in this small war is due to some unspeakable desires of those in the church of Red Sun.
Things he found disgusting, but he never dared to voice out his thoughts over such matters.
"Of course Priest Boman, I understand." So he could only bow down to Priest in respect, showing a hint of humility that people in his position should.
Though the truth was, Farhad didn’t intend to make matters worse than it already was. There was already too much in his mind already. ’None of the weird spirits are here.’ he thought to himself, finding that the weird floating spirit-like things were absent from this place, unlike the case with Durum, where they were virtually everywhere.
This made him curious about their existence, but he didn’t dare to question about them to anyone. As in a part of his mind, a voice was telling him to ignore those things no matter what.
"If you understand, then get ready, Sir Vance will be coming with a report to the cave we have to purge, and it would be rude of us to delay the matter any further."
