Chapter 433: 7.12.2 The weird contract.
Amir was a fool, it was easier to see what was going on in the mind of this old woman.
Both Qubair and Sehra belonged to noble families, and the fact that they supported a particular prince also meant that their families obviously agreed with their choices, or one should say, it was their families that made them pick and choose to begin with.
A mistake from the looks of it considering the pathetic of Lucius after battle. But it would explain why the old woman was here to defend Sehra.
"Even someone at my age is prone to mistakes, and she is just a nerd that just entered the world. Blaming her won’t do anyone good, it’s better to consider compensation."
"As for not speaking with Prince Ludwig, I don’t intend for this matter to reach the public, it’s better if we just converse here, and I believe with the goodwill Sehra will show in the future, he won’t be as angry as before."
There was never a need for an explanation. She didn’t consider it was worth it, nor did she wish to enter the quagmire that was the country politics by meeting with a prince like Ludwig, who seemed to be trying for the Crown prince position and seemed to have already accumulated enough power.
So even if he were to fail now, he wouldn’t become one of those Royals whose blood was banned and then thrown out of the capital to do business elsewhere. Never to sire children with Royal blood again.
Instead, Ludwig would either become a General, or a minister at the very least.
As for the position of the Crown Prince?
No such person holding the position exists at the moment, as no one has been able to reach the level and talent required for the Crown Prince Seat. Making the battle for it an eternal nightmare that had devoured many through time.
"You are speaking about compensation? We don’t lack any money..." Amir had an idea. A simple idea that might make Ludwig happy. "Why not make her work for Prince Ludwig? This way, she can redeem herself." A perfect exchange. This is what Amir thought.
But this old foxy woman was not so interested in this kind of redemption. "She is to study under me after the farce at the border is over, it’s impossible for her to join any sides, not so early at least."
"Then I believe we should forget about this whole discussion, as I don’t see that Archmage Sana would hold anything that might interest me." Amir was a Royal, he lacked nothing in his life and if there was something important to his practice, his grandfather would provide it to him, including the Blood wine that contained the blood of a Daemon-level existence.
That’s how much his grandfather loved him.
So Amir really never gave a thought to what this old woman could offer him. As the one thing at which he can speak for Ludwig was not allowed by her.
Though, there is no issue listening to her, what was it that she deemed could be used in this exchange?
"There is no need to come to conclusions so fast, first look at what I have to offer." With those words, she forwarded a small contract with most of it covered in a veil, leaving only a little bit of information about what it was.
Amir looked confused, looking at the beast’s skin littered with some confusing letters, the only thing he could make out was the title of the leather page. "This, this is a slavery contract?"
"I considered you smart..." Although appearing a bit offended by Amir’s words, she sighed. The man in front of her, with such a body obviously was not the thinking type. Or so she thought, unaware of Amir’s exploits, so she explained the details to him in person. "Prince Amir, this is a high-level Spirit contract, which I believe should help you very much."
"A spirit contract would only be usable to mages, no?"
"Obviously that is the case in a general sense, but there are always exceptions to the rules and Archmage Anna is that one exception." The scroll was obtained during a simple exchange the two held, and originally, the scroll was meant for her disciple, who just recently accepted her tutelage.
But considering the mistakes she made by putting her feet in matters that she shouldn’t have, this was an appropriate punishment for her.
And besides, since Archamge Anna came from her outing, things she seemed a lot more energetic than before, so the output of these special scrolls seemed to have increased from one every two years to one every year.
Meaning that with some extra payment, she can buy a new one for her disciple when the time comes.
"Such a thing... I would still like to refuse..." Amir planned to refuse, but before he could do such a thing he was stopped midway. "Prince Amir, are you aware of where the crows you summon come from?"
The only answer to such a question was confusion. Amir truly didn’t know where the crows came from.
"They come from the world of spirits, like other summons... of course, the medium of summon is blood instead of mana, which caused them to take such an odd form." She explained the reason and Amir couldn’t help but look at her curiously.
The words that she said next were something even his grandfather hadn’t ever explained to him. And it’s not like he hadn’t tried to look for answers, but there were never any around him, and as his interaction with other members of his family was next to nothing, he could only depend on his grandfather.
Making it so that he lacked understanding of such a simple truth about his blood.
"But using the blood of a prince should be heavy for you, it would be heavy for anyone... this is where this scroll comes in. Through it, you can contract a permanent spirit that once summoned would be akin to a living animal. You can feed it food instead of your blood to sustain it."
Such words, Amir knew what these words meant.
’Someone in my family had already used this method, and she is aware of that... or at least this Archmage named Anna.’
Though the thoughts of Amir mattered not to me anymore, my eyes remained on the scroll, which suddenly seemed like an eyesore to me.
’This Anna, being a headache as always.’ Ignoring the matter with my daughter. This little creation of Anna in the hands of a Blood Crow would only bring trouble to my little playground. And if not for Hemant, I would still be blind to the new creations of Cynark all this while.
So this was good news for me, at least I can be ready for any unexpected surprises along the way.
Though back to the topic, Amir chose to accept the offer, he can see how priceless it was, specifically to people from the Royal bloodline.
And of course, Amir never intended to use it on himself, as there was never a need for him to use something so worthless to begin with.
He can sustain his summons for hours on end and even then, they can still return to his body as if nothing happening.
He was not as restricted as some other people might think, meaning that the value of these leather scrolls was lower than dung, which at least can be used to warm some water by burning it.
So one must wonder, why did he accept such a useless thing.
"Lord, are you sure? This thing seems precious."
"The one to suffer is Prince Ludwig, I hold no right to enjoy the fruits of his misery." As for what kind of misery it was? Amir didn’t know, as from the face of Ludwig, he always seemed happy with no care in the world.
But who knows what he had been hiding under that fake smile of his, maybe this thing can put some pressure on Ludwig down.
No matter who it was, it would always be better to have a Summon by your side all the time, which can rival a Master-ranked Knight. A being that will be completely under his control.
’I believe he would love this.’
*****
Not far away, after leaving Amir’s quarters and looking at the crowd below that was still reeling in from the hype of the match, some getting so riled up that they entered the Arena on their own to showcase their ability, with multiple instructors from the tower of Arcana overlooking their battle.
But none of that mattered to Sana, she just opened the door to her room and took out a simple stone from her bag, before speaking in it. "As promised, the contract has been handed over to him."
"Good, good... the reward will be sent by the afternoon of tomorrow."
With those words, the stone cracked and turned into dust. But this was enough.
"I feel dirty doing all of this." There were two reasons she hated Politics. One was that it took too much of her precious time away and the second was the issue with the danger it entailed.
Just like now.
But what could be done, she knew she had been doomed the moment that face from the past appeared back in her life, and due to that very past, it was hard to deny any request of this individual, no matter how bad it made her feel.
’Just this once...’
She said. Before closing her eyes for a rest.
