Chapter 365: 6.08.1 An inevitable meeting.
"Remember this young Apprentices, death is preferable over compromise. You don’t sully the Knight’s creed, no matter the circumstances."
The echo of a past reverberated in Remira’s mind, making her recall the morals she was brought up in, and how she learned the dos and don’ts of being a knight. Where she had to use appropriate force and where she had to ignore the issues if she ever came across those things.
"A knight dies before compromise."
"A knight dies before compromise." Kept echoing in her mind the closer she got to the hidden pier used by so-called merchants, who in truth was nothing more than slavers.
"It doesn’t feel right." Unaware of the thoughts that Remira had in her head, Farhad complained from the side, exposing his real feelings over the situation. No matter what the circumstances are, one shouldn’t fall to the level that they need to ask for the help of some slavers.
These inhuman beasts treat humans like commodities, to them, lives are to be sold and exploited. But then again, knowing where the slavers were going and their main business partners. He felt conflicted.
He questioned his country, he even questioned his father after being aware of the horrific things Varkus had done in the name of his country.
There is no worse feeling than being aware of the fact that the country you grew up in was not that good to begin with. The longer he lived away from it, the more he became aware of the filth that had always existed in his country.
And now, he was going to use that same filth to reenter his country and attain true peace.
But would it really be any safer there than in Yethel?
’No, it’s mostly an illusion.’ Farhad doesn’t intend to go back to his old life, he just wishes to fulfill his promise to Remira and return to Radiant order. Not only is that place safe, but it’s also free of filth, unlike his country, his home.
On the other hand, Selene was enjoying her time with these two fools. There were safer and easier methods to leave Yethel considering she was in a way princess of this land, so making some people overlook their existence as she made an escape attempt would obviously be easy.
But it would make the suspicion of her peers turn deeper. It was already a miracle that they were willingly overlooking the insane amount of luck they were showered with during their initial escape. Selene understood, that she couldn’t abuse it more than that.
On the other hand, Selene had another reason to use slaves.
’Nothing more humiliating for a knight than asking help from slavers.’ She enjoyed the pain of the Radiant Knight who was sort of like a friend of hers. A victim even.
It’s due to Radiant Knights that she doesn’t have her father anymore. While the pained expression of the child of her father’s killer is an added bonus.
’Weak-willed, as uncle said. Both chose to ignore the miser around each other as long as the world conforms to their worldview. So when reality strikes, they would struggle with their faith. Would pragmatism win or their consciousness? Selene wondered as she led the two aboard the slaver ship.
"You didn’t say the passengers are going to include a beautiful woman?" The master of the slaver ship said, looking at Remira’s toned body and beautiful face, which caused some lust to surface on his face.
A look that Remira still hasn’t gotten used to, as unlike before when people instinctively feared her due to her potent bloodline and strength, the same was not the case anymore. The fear is replaced with lust and she feels naked each time.
"Don’t try anything stupid, our guard here is an Adept level, Knight," Selene warned the man. Who was still a beauty in her own right, but just a common one that can be found in any whorehouse. So the desire for the captain was not as strong for her when compared to Remira.
Following Selene’s words, the hand of Farhad split apart, turning longer and sharper, which caused the face of the captain to sweat in fear as he backed down. "Please don’t be offended, I just have a habit of appreciating beauty when I come across it. Folly of the trade." The captain apologized again and again before giving the trio a room next to the captain’s cabin. All in an attempt to keep some stupid crewmates from throwing their hands at the trio and incurring the wrath of the adept knight that is with them.
A knight in name only, who had recently learned deeper about the nature of his physique and the mutations he could force his body to go through.
A scene that didn’t go unnoticed by Remira’s eyes even when her soul was crushed by the situation she had found herself in.
No, the thought of destroying the slavers in Cynark suddenly seemed smaller compared to what Farhad displayed as a threat to the very same slavers.
’That hand, how?’ She thought for a bit, before shaking her head of such distracting thoughts. ’He is dangerous, as I had expected.’ She didn’t know, but the simple action which was common for Knights to do depending on the bloodline, seemed unnatural to Remira.
Which was normal, considering nothing about Farhad was ever normal, to begin with. A being created out of multiple coincidences, carefully planned ahead by Jester. And now that very same Jester allowed Farhad to leave.
And yes, it was he who allowed Farhad to leave, because in no way did Remira believe their escape was anything but handed freedom using Number Two as a proxy.
"Is this where we will be living for the next two weeks?" Farhad wondered, looking at the small cabin that the captain had given them gleefully. "It reeks." He said, finding the smell of rot as well as urine in the air a bit disheartening.
"Be glad that we are on a returning ship at the moment which has been cleaned ahead of departure. You don’t want to know what a slaver ship is like when loaded with cargo.’ Selene said in a melancholic voice, making Farhad and Remira wonder how did she know this. Which was all an act of Selene to earn some sympathy from the two fools with her.
Who knew nothing about her and hence were prone to making up stories in their head.
"You say returning. So do they pick Slaves from Cynark?... But where do they take them?"
"This ship specifically with the size, it’s probably Azhad."
******
"From Azhad to Fulton island, where the ship changes the owners, and then to Cynark which they use as a resting point before departing for Cynark... considering the encrypted logs we found, if one thing we can confirm from the dates alone, It’s that a ship will be coming here around the same time as Master has asked us to stay here."
It was morning and after a night of partying the group came with a severe case of hangover and lethargy. But they were still attentively listening to each word that Sheva said. And why would they not?
Although Sheva and Crow were going through a test for the position of team leader of Team Two, the way the group saw it. Crow clearly treated Sheva as an older sister. Which went to show that no matter who wins in the future. Sheva would still have a certain amount of authority in Team Two. So It’s never too late to get in with the program.
Not to mention, while the group was partying up at night, Sheva was all alone, reading the log books and understanding the kind of place they were in.
"Captain, I have a question." One of Crow’s subordinates suddenly asked. "Can we kill those people on board?"
"I agree... my hand has been itching and killing human scum will be pretty fun."
"..."
"Do either of you know how to commandeer a ship?... A sailing boat?"
"A sailboat? Are there still people who use those things?"
The discussion continued, and the group finally came to a single answer after some input from Crow who said. "Keep the bare minimum, the poor ones on the ship are just doing their job... while the big ones, its captains and officers should be prime targets for culling."
Words that Sheva didn’t approve of. But understood that this was an expected of Crow who was somewhat mentally ill to begin with.
"All your plans are good and stuff... but don’t forget where we are. It’s a slavers’ encampment, did any of you wonder why would they come here, to begin with?"
The group shook their head.
"From what I see, they only loaded the goods from here, they never brought anything noteworthy... which means, there will be a surprise for us in the coming days." And from surprise, she means the slavers on the mainland will soon be coming here with the goods that would soon be sold in Azhad.
As for how long will it take them, she didn’t know.
"If you are itching for some justice and death, just focus on those bastards, but leave their leader alive. We don’t know if the slavers have any warning system... otherwise, they might not dock on the seaside."
At Sheva’s words, a smile spread on the faces of her subordinates, while Crow turned curious and asked. "Do you know, in which direction they might come from?"
He asked and Sheva nodded. "Most come from Wortham, as there are loads of displaced refugees in its land, the perfect place to acquire some goods."
