Chapter 328: 5.15.4 Need to run away.
"Didn’t you wish for adventure?"
"I still do, but I won’t be enjoying any of it if that man gets his hand on me... so I need a way to escape this place. That’s the only way for me to enjoy this life."
At my words, Sheva turned silent for a bit before asking. "And go where? You betrayed everyone at this point. The only chance for your survival stays with Captain." Sheva saw no hope for me. The only chance I had was going with Remira, show her my value and force her to keep me safe.
But that is where the issue was. "I know, that man won’t be able to do much if that Knight came and helped me. But the issue is what happens after." I had a weak laughter escaping my mouth. "Look at you, she treated you like a baggage, taking you around like a prisoner. I don’t wish for that life. I want fun, I want to see this world."
"Don’t be naive, Crow... you should know more than enough about how dangerous it is to become an adventurer. That is, if you can hide from your pursuers to begin with." She spoke to me, looking at me with deep eyes that seem to see through time.
And I knew what those eyes were doing, and I hope she succeeds.
"I will escape, with enough mastery of my bloodline, everything about me can change. They won’t be able to find me." I really acted ignorant at this point. But Sheva had no words to speak of anymore.
Because she felt that a small centipede was crawling towards her. "??" A centipede she had never seen before, but she had knowledge over what this might mean. "You are here?"
Of course, it was not only because she knew about Jester’s means. But her eyes currently looked at the blackish flames on the centipede, much different than Crow, whose flames were only murky at best. "Crow, it would seem your master is here."
"... he found us?" I looked around in fear, before finding out the small centipede crawling next to Remira’s ear. "Master, I had no intentions of betraying you. I even did as you asked." I spoke to the centipede, showing some fear.
A fear that felt Genuine to Sheva, who also fell into wonder.
If the centipede was here, it meant that Jester was aware of their location, and it won’t be long before a force is sent their way to either kill them or apprehend them. "Crow, do you put the centipede in your ears?" She asked for confirmation and I nodded.
"Either you have to be asleep or use that method, there is no other way to talk with him."
I explained, and Sheva thought of doing just that if she got her hands free.
But before she could do so, the surrounding air vibrated as Anna appeared and gently caught the centipede. "As you said, he really came here." She spoke with some laughter.
"You, you were here since the start?..."
"Of course we were here, only a fool would leave the boat at such a dangerous time." She spoke, before giving Sheva one look and saying. "You don’t worry, when Remira arrives, we will free your hand. For now, just sleep, and we promise that no harm comes to you."
"... An act, you just wanted to see if Jester follows us?" Sheva said, and Anna nodded in response. "Partly an act. But that is only when it concerns you. The boy, on the other hand. He is too far gone, and we still have to show Pulgasiri some results."
"Ma’am... but I didn’t do a thing to harm anyone. The most I did was act as a coolie."
"That all depends on your country’s court, I had no jurisdiction over the matter and all I am here if for the proof of Jester’s existence. And this bug just might be it." As she spoke, a spell broke from her palm, sealing the centipede into a small net made out of magic, which she gently threw into her bag.
An action that Sheva detested, not to mention when looking at this woman, the darkness that she carried was way worse than the one she found on Jester.
’... What is going on.’ She wondered. Still not used to her bloodline and unable to fully comprehend what was good or what was bad. What did the flames on the bodies of these people meant, and how can it be compared?
But one thing she did know.
The woman in front of her might be the enemy of Jester, but she sure was not her friend. Nor was she a good person.
She needs to understand this. She needs to know how this works as from her perspective, whoever the totem of her bloodline is, he is not so interested in her and instead if waiting for her demise.
’Either the centipede or dreams.’
She thought but chose to remain silent for now and then asked. "How long till captain is back."
But Anna spoke of nothing and left the holdings, leaving Sheva alone with a frustrated me. Who kept talking about the fun future I had dreamed about, hoping that Sheva might fulfill them in my place.
Like a dead man speaking his will.
I was pushing for it. Guilt will force her to fall into the laps of the Jester, which was me. And from the words I spoke before, Sheva might have understood what she has to do if she wishes to escape from this place.
But before I could speak a word, I felt an echo in the dream net I had established. ’So soon?’ With that wonder, my sight divided into two and I saw their faces.
"Are you the one who beckoned me?" I asked Anna, who looked at what appeared as a faceless mask above the small centipede.
She probably used a magic to achieve such an effect. Making me somewhat envious of mages, but now was not the time. "Or was it Kassandra, still hiding in the dark, using you as her mouthpiece?"
At such words, another figure walked out from Anna’s shadow. A face that I had been used to since long ago.
"Ah, my first daughter, the years seem to be kind on you, unlike me." I spoke with a roar of laughter, making Anna a bit disturbed.
For this was the very first time she had met me. As before, it was mostly the 2nd accounts of other peoples and the rumors she had heard during her investigations. But this was the first time she was meeting me. The moment a story becomes reality.
But my attention was not on her. It remained on Kassandra.
"Don’t call me your daughter." She spoke with some disgust, before looking at me straight and speaking in a mocking tone. "You don’t have the right."
"Without me, your life would have been boring. Even the strength you carry won’t be there without me. So I do believe I have the rights."
I spoke of the past, how she was an annoying child while Anna listened from the side. Which was odd in itself, as she didn’t seem to have any curiosity over me. Which finally made me curious. "You summoned me here... do you wish to seal me in the centipede?"
As I said those words, my body started to fade away.
But it was already too late. "There is no need to rush, I also have some questions." Anna spoke sarcastically as multiple spell formations fell on the centipede, burning it bit by bit, and the ashes that formed from it slowly turning into an ink on the paper that Anna held.
"You think it would affect me at all?" I asked with some curiosity, not from Anna, but Kassandra, who should know I was not as simple as others might think I was.
But she just nodded. "A proof is all that is needed to send Cynark into dog hunt for you. I wonder how long can you survive for after they become aware of your existence."
"So your plan was really that stupid."
I said, before my body turned into dust and was absorbed by the paper in Anna’s hand. Leaving Kassandra a bit speechless, while I in the room not too far from them had a gleeful smile on my face.
Of course, what I did just might have made things difficult for me. I gave them a trace of my body and with that as a proof, things might turn troublesome for this country as well as me.
But it should be enough, as my plans have already entered a new phase since the moment I acquired crow’s body.
Making me safe. For a bit at least.
’I still need to escape this place.’
My plans have gone awry to some extent, but it doesn’t mean failure.
’Soros... if he could be brought back... but I haven’t’ found a proper body for him yet.’ I cursed my fate, was calling that horned bastard the only way?
No, no matter what happens, I can’t ask for his help, otherwise the payment I would have to make would be way worse than the service he would provide.
’I can’t have another loss.’ Blue rose had already taken enough from me. The name that I had kept secret was out in the open, there was a trace of it in this world, which also means that there was a massive danger caused by it in my future.
So it can happen one time, but I can’t give another one a leverage like this.
And while I had such thoughts, Sheva who was trying for it. Finally fell asleep on the side.
