The God of Jesters
Chapter 199 - 3.15.3 Time to go.

Chapter 199: 3.15.3 Time to go.

It was horrible, before he could even fathom what he was looking at, the eye that was exposed under Max’s skin, stared into Homuk’s face.

Causing a burning pain that spread through his body and mind. It felt as if his eyes had exploded, while he threw Max’s body aside, while holding his scream as the image of a tree came into his mind.

"FIlth!!" Corruption caused by the aura of a being he couldn’t even fathom.

A being with thousands of corpses hanging from its branches. Corpses of various beings that had long gone extinct from the world as well as the mind of the living.

It was a horror so great, that even Jester hid from the scene. Running away like a rat, fearing the filth of corruptible knowledge that he was not meant to.

He was even unaware of what just happened.

To him, this whole game came to an end when Homuk made his move, unless some miracle happened, it was next to impossible for Max to survive this exchange.

Of course, it didn’t mean that he was planning to abandon Max. To him, Max was only slightly less important than the things his men were going to steal.

Important things, that were his main goal while coming to this boring city.

But now, seeing the thing that was exposed under Max’s flesh?

Jester had no reason to help him. For he understood there was no need for it.

On the other hand, Max, who got thrown aside, suddenly heard a familiar voice in his head. "Find a disciple...or it will." The voice he had never forgotten once.

A voice he thought was coming right next to him, so Max tried to open his eyes, but whether it was an instinct or intervention by the owner of the voice, Max couldn’t open his eyes.

The only thing that he heard were the cries of his opponent. A man who overpowered him to no end and treated him like a toy, just the way the berserk Salvarez did with Officer Gaityonde’s body.

*****

Most officers that were on the outskirts lost the light in their eyes while falling down and foaming from their mouths, which were the luckiest. While the stronger one screamed in pain while clawing at their eyes.

The distance mattered not, the moment they heard the muffled screams of their General, they had inadvertently turned their heads in that direction, catching a glimpse of something they should.

Bringing the battlefield to a standstill.

And whether it was fate at play here or godly luck. But both Fahna and Salvarez, who were rendered incapable of moving their head, were the only ones on the battlefield besides a few dark-clothed assassins, who didn’t get stained with the filth.

Which finally gave Fahna a chance.

Although things went a bit chaotic due to the arrival of Homuk, this was finally the chance she was looking forward to.

She could see the state of these men around her. None were spared who dared to look toward Homuk, including Red and Blue as well.

Although being mages gave them higher immunity to corruption, they were still nothing like an occultist. Their magical abilities might be strong, but their spiritual strength was weaker. Unable to face the corruption, Blue was the first to escape from the scene... For he was the closest to the cemetery when it happened.

And Fahna, using it as an opportunity, crushed some capsules in her mouth, gaining a burst of temporary strength, before she used her newfound focus and time to cover herself in a flaming armor, turning transparent, right between Red. Who couldn’t see her anyway, as his eyes were still covered in filth?

But that was it, if Fahna wished to escape, it was easy. But taking this giant bear who had lost most of his limbs with her?

That was close to impossible. She didn’t have the strength of magic to support him. And even if she were to take him, where can she even hide this giant beast?

She knew for sure that the whole hill was surrounded. And if on her own, it would have been easier for her to escape. But taking Salvarez with her?

There was no chance.

She could only leave him here.

"You... Stop!" But Red was not in such a mood, Even with his eyes bleeding like the rest of the people, he increased the density of the air around him, causing the flames over Fahna to depress before flickering exposing her position.

Which didn’t matter as the current Red was sightless, his bleeding eyes could see nothing. But from the movement in dense air around him, he still made out a general direction of his opponent, before shooting it in Fahna’s direction, without caring for any harm he might cause.

If you can’t capture an enemy, then kill them.

But never let them escape.

So he fired again and again. Each bullet is powered by his spells, with increased penetrative power and lethality. He easily ripped out Remira’s flame shield like thin paper.

And as she was low on mana since the earlier fight, she wasn’t even able to use her spells freely.

"If you don’t want to die... then stay here," Red said, in the direction of Fahna, who had fallen down at some point, with her legs being punctured with bullets.

"Fuck!"

Everything was ruined, this is what happens when you fight in the light. Even with years of training under her "killer" teacher, she still made the biggest mistake she could and tried to face opponents way out of her league.

And for what?

Just to kill some wraith that might be real or not?

A wraith who no one cares about for some reason, even though he played a big role in the ruination of her family?

"I... I just wanted..." She was tired, beaten, and broken by the constant torture she experienced in the last few minutes.

Even after forcing her body through drugs to regain some strength. All of it came to an end the moment Red played his cards.

Taking her own in an instant.

An end which will also be an end of her revenge., Leaving her family to fend off for themselves against the monster that his brother talked about a lot.

A dangerous monster that seemed to belong to a legend. The boogeyman of a conspiracy.

But he was real and she had seen that proof herself.

It was why she had hoped to kill him and destroy his very soul so that her family could live in peace. But it would seem her end would come much earlier than expected. "You are being played with." She curses while spitting blood out of her mouth. Causing Red, with bleeding eyes to turn toward her with confusion.

He didn’t know who she was talking about. But considering the state she might be in, probably closer to death. Red chose to take her words to heart. Now hoping to wait for the arrival of the Shaman Order of the city. The only people who can deal with the corruption, along with the source of the corruption.

"Aahh..." Of course, his thoughts only lasted for a little, as a root-like thread grew from the side of his eye.

"Haha... Guess, I am not the only one to die here." Fahna smiled.

A smile that turned to stone, as something hit her attacker. Throwing his body to the side, as he couldn’t focus on defense.

Followed by a sound she was very familiar with.

"??" The sound of a bullet echoed loudly in this haunting battlefield.

Followed by the steps of someone big, almost appearing like a hulking man if not for the person’s feminine features.

"You?... I know you..." At this point, Fahna was in delirium, too much blood was bled, making her weaker by the second and causing her to hallucinate a bit. But her savior had no mood to play with a dying one’s humor. "Leave that for later... you are coming with me."

With those words, Sheva took out some bandages and sealed the hole over Fahna’s legs, before hauling her over her shoulder.

Which finally gave Fahna a direct look at her savior’s face.

"A blind sniper?"

*****

Timing is most important for a sniper, they need to be aware of when to take a shot and when to wait while ignoring the deaths of their own companions.

That was the case here. Countless times she had wished to intervene, countless times she wished to put in a few shots, but Sheva had been holding herself back.

Besides the one time, she did it to save some innocents. This was the second shot she took through this battle and it was to save none other than her own enemy.

And considering how she had an eye on the battlefield since the start, she might have become one of the victims of corruption as well.

But due to her highly restricted view due to the position she took. Her focus was mostly on the street in front of Salvarez’s safe house.

As for the cemetery, which turned into the source of the corruption, she couldn’t see what happened there. Which in turn saved her from the horror.

Knowing what had happened to others, she had put on a blindfold before entering the battlefield, with little visibility that she gained through the clothes fabric.

This is how she came to Fahna’s rescue.

This is how she saved Max.

I am glad to have chosen her.

*cough.

"??"

"Hmm... so I got stained as well?" I thought, looking toward my dreamy body which now held traces of black pots, through which little grass was growing.
