Chapter 187: 3.13.3 Move away.
"We will talk later, my companion might be lost forever if I don’t do something." The situation at the front was too silent, there were no more sounds of conflict after the last flurry of bullets she heard, which could only mean that the fight was at an end and people were probably collecting the spoils.
"Oh him? You don’t have to worry about him. And to tell you the truth, I find it fascinating you showing worry for that child, after what you did to him." Owl said, as his body walked out from his cover.
Another fake, which Remira can sense easily. It’s why she didn’t attack it this time as it was not worth it.
Not to mention, what the man said highly disturbed her. "What do you mean by this?" She wondered. What did she do to him?
Because in her mind, the only thing she had done to him, which might warrant such a reaction would be how she had decapitated him. But she did those things in safe houses by Radiant Hall, it’s next to impossible for one to know what goes on in those places.
Unless of course, the opponent is someone too strong to overcome the defense formations.
"Miss Remira, I think you know it as well as I do, what we are speaking about." Owl took a pause before a small smile formed on his face when he saw the changing expression of Remira.
"This kind of information gathering, you work for him?" She asked, horrified over how the Jester had learned of the events. And she was on point as Owl nodded. "Well, it’s not like he intended, you decapitating his precious friend had disturbed him a bit..."
It was too much. Remira never in a million years would have expected to learn so much about her opponent in the middle of the forest. She also didn’t expect that the person Farhad had wanted to kill would send his men here to warn his companion.
Because, as it turns out, Farhad’s lifelong enemy considered him his friend. "What a joke."
"If you don’t come out now, I will burn this whole forest, then we will see if you can find a place to hide." With her words, her body turned into flames, showing her determination. With a simple will, this flame will turn from an incorporeal form to a tangible one and can easily destroy the forest.
But Owl was not so disturbed by such claims, he just continued. "A feisty one, are you? Master always liked the crazies. So unlucky for you to eclipse under Farhad’s light." These words were enough for Remira to unleash her attack, spreading the flames.
"If you don’t want to fight, then don’t." With those words, as the fire spread, she left.
Or at least, she tried to before multiple flying knives hit her from different positions forcing her to back down.
"Why so desperate now? Just leave that boy be and go, leave this place, go to your village that you so desire. I believe your superiors won’t mind you losing the boy."
"Your master can be free now, for we thought he was dead... but with you as proof, do you think your master can survive the wrath of Radiance Hall for long?" Her feet were like pistons, destroying the ground with each of her steps and causing mayhem in the jungle.
But no matter what she did the voice followed her. Always maintaining the same distance, while facing the flying knights and threat traps one by one.
Of course, Farhad’s kidnappers were also not in the same place, they were doing their best to make an escape after knowing that Remira was after them.
"Hoho! It’s been a hundred years since he descended on this land. Sixty of which he lived under the contrast hunt of your massive church."
"And the one to hunt him was a lot stronger than you. Do you actually believe you or anyone else can even harm him?"
"He is just a rat, hiding from danger."
"But aren’t we all?... And as a rat, we should know when to back down. So stop little girl, leave Farhad. Don’t be detrimental to his growth. You can’t imagine the level of forces you are dealing with."
The mocking tune didn’t decrease in Owl’s voice, to him, Remira was nothing more than an annoyance. If not for his master showing some interest in this woman before, he would have killed her by now.
"A dream parasite and his followers? A lot lower in the danger rank than the god I faced before." Remira was not going to let herself be disturbed by a few words. She was not so weak to be scared of simple haughty claims.
It would be a lie to say she was not worried about Jester. His simple ability to manipulate the minds of common people and collect information was horrific.
Even the simple fact that she had been the one to cut Farhad’s head had reached the bastard and who knows for how long he had been keeping an eye on her. Though the medium is probably Farhad.
As for how he is doing it?
She didn’t know. Because for all she knew, the flames of Samadhi would deal with all the invasive forces in the body. It was even stronger than the Flames of Radiance in the purification category and even the Old Knights of Radiance have confirmed that the flames of Samadhi have completely merged with Farhad’s soul. Making any further tweaking or possession next to impossible.
The only issue was the remaining memories that were causing some hiccups in Farhad’s personality, but Jester using Farhad as a medium was the lowest on her list to worry about.
But now, it seems that Jester had a way, a method to keep an eye on her. Making Farhad a liability, like she had feared before. If Jester had a way to keep an eye on them, then he would obviously keep sending assassins like this in future and there would never be peace in her mission.
She can’t let that happen, she won’t let it happen.
"Your steps faltered, it seems you are understanding your situation. Go, do what you want, visit your hometown. Leave Farhad alone, let him grow."
"Found you."
"??" Before Owl could understand, a total of six bullets were fired in random directions, with one of them causing a cracking sound as the true body of Owl was dragged out of his illusion technique.
"An exorcist, as I had expected," Remira said, looking at the talisman-covered body of Owl. Who had a smile on his weird face?
A face covered in makeup, a clown makeup she had seen in circus shows from a distance. "Oh no, I found out... what else would I do?" Owl said, taking the burnt talisman from over his head, while the surroundings started to mold and change.
Startling Remira for a bit, before she found herself in the original position once again.
"Oh no, my precious formation was broken as well... what else would I do?"
"You bastard... you trapped me?"
"Oh no, the child killer lady is angry at me... what should I do now?" Owl said, shaking his head in fear. A mockery that just made Remira angrier than before. "Tell me your name, I wish to know the name of the one I killed."
"Oh no, this humble one’s name is nothing special... I am just a hunter, a hunter for my master who loves collecting curses. You can call me his Pet Owl."
*****
Farhad was the one to call out Remira’s beauty and point out the trouble it might attract. Whether it was fate playing a game with him or not. He ended up becoming the biggest trouble magnet at the end.
If irony was a cheese wheel, it would have fed a million rats at the moment.
’What was I doing?’ With his body rendered useless, Farhad wandered in a dream world of his own, contemplating the choices he made that led him to this point, along with the animal he became not too long ago.
’That animal, that can’t be me... but why does it feel good?’ He had such urges in his home before but had been able to curb them due to the safe environment he lived in. But under stress and danger?
It becomes harder, but anything is better than being stationary when people come for your life.
But he also knows how useless this is, with his healing, no injury is fatal and eventually, his captain Remira would obviously come to his rescue.
"Any minute now." He said to himself, unaware of the time nor even knowing where he was. He can barely feel his body being dragged to someplace else.
"She will come and I won’t have to give in to my desires anymore." He prayed for Remira’s rescue, he prayed for her to come, but who knows how long had gone by, besides few whipsters and constant cuts at his limbs, Farhad could feel nothing.
It felt like hours had gone, even days. But no matter how much he prayed, no one came to his rescue.
"Where are you?" He waited and waited. He waited for Remira, then the bodyguards who were protecting him from the dark. But no matter how much he waited, there was no answer, he would always feel random cuts and random noises from time to time.
"When?"
"Sir, according to the timetable, the train will come in a day at most."
"We camp on the side tonight, it would seem that Owl was not lying over his claims. But just to be sure, camouflage the area properly.
