Chapter 184: 3.12.5 Run boys run.
It was the next day and Remira along with Farhad had walked in the forest for hours on end without losing their direction.
Most of it was a straight path and the two were already on the feet of the mountain. But unlike before, there was no need to climb these two. They were nothing more than obstacles to the two. "How far from here?"
"It’s around a hundred kilometers of walk." Hearing such an answer, Farhad knew that the journey was not over so early, he would have to wait for three days at least, which might get longer depending on the terrain.
Of course, that was if they maintained their current pace. With their superhuman speed, it actually won’t take long for them to reach the destination. But Remira seemed adamant about going against his will.
A bit annoying, considering he cared for the time wasted here. The faster this ends, the faster they can go after his sister.
"Captain, wouldn’t it be better for us to pick up pace? Both of us are superhumans, it isn’t as hard for me to keep up with you." From the ferocity Captain had shown while climbing the mountain, it was easier to see that she was purposefully slow on her path.
Was it to annoy me? Did she still question me?
Or was it due to last night’s questions? Did she catch on to my true intentions last night?
Maybe this is why she might have lied through her teeth, not telling me the full details of her thoughts about my father. A father who had killed countless innocents. And a father that died to protect me.
I don’t even know what to feel about him at this point. Nor could I ever confront him for his crimes and demand answers directly from him.
But what is gone never comes back, and I still have a sister to care about. She was my top priority and I had to prevent her from making a big mistake.
However, her response was the same along the lines of "The slow and steady wins at the end." While she refused to properly explain her point.
Why was that? Why waste so much time?
Was she angry due to the time wasted while I regenerated my head?
This was her way of exacting her karmic justice?
No, from my memory, Captain might be many things, but a petty human, she was not. These thoughts of mine were wrong, they were false and ugly and definitely not mine.
"Farhad, don’t worry. Our enemy is not the one with much strength of his own." Some surprising words escaped her mouth. "The case in Durum was special, he had the background and time to develop his power. Otherwise, for a parasite like him, it’s impossible to cause harm to transcendent people like us."
After hearing her words, I understood her reasoning. And she was right. Jester has many things, but without a body or rats, he can barely interact with the real world. His greatest tool is the world of dreams, but even then, he can only influence weak minds or those of mortals. While the transcendent is free of his influence.
That is of course, if they don’t wilfully allow him into their minds, and I believe no one will be stupid enough to do such a thing.

Those then became Farhad’s last thought, as a bullet hit him straight in the heart, while Remira dodged away from the oncoming bullets without much struggle.
"Finally." She said, while looking toward the tweaking body of Farhad who was in shock after being hit, while blood flowed from his head. "Out in an instant." Even with her vigilance, she had been unable to save Farhad.
And it was not because she worried for his well-being, but the fact that he might have helped her in the fight.
But before she could have any further thoughts, she heard a small thing in her ears, and before she could move, the ground below her exploded, causing the birds to fly away in fear.
"These bastards!" Remira said, while she tried to find where her opponents were hiding, which was not hard considering she had a background as a tracker and a mighty good one at that.
So, finding the odd smells and mana signatures in the air through her eyes, she was able to pick out a few of these assassins. But before she could act on the path she had carved in her head, a few more explosions rocked her mind, throwing her father from Farhad, who was slowly recovering from his bullet wound.
But before he could stand up again, one more bullet hit him in the head, causing him to fall down.
"Preparation, this is the key to victory." Kareem was a bomber, a mighty good one at that. Unlike other knights, he had no extra mutation or organs, nor any special mystical abilities.
In simple terms, he was a walking explosive. His blood, nails, hair, bones, everything can become explosives with just a thought of his. In order to perfect his craft, he had learned various theories about the art of explosion, how to control their directions, and how to use them as support as he did now.
An ability he became famous for and had gained the title of Trap master.
Besides the initial explosion, none of the other explosions of his were dangerous. While the first one was used to make Remira lose her footing, the follow-ups were there to move her away from their target.
A part of the plan, which in actuality was the easiest one to pull.
"Team two, capture the target." Ordered Kareem, carefully controlling the explosions, and throwing Remira all around the battlefield.
But the more he did that, the more he could sense that after a certain point, Remira seemed to be developing some sort of immunity against his explosions. Or, it would be more apt to say that she was getting used to them and was somehow able to overcome the force of explosions using her body movements.
"Team two has captured the target. He is rev."
"Focus on the mission. Escape! I won’t be able to hold her longer." Kareem said from his hiding spot.
The mission was divided into three parts.
The distraction, capture, and escape.
With "Escape" being the hardest, considering the destructive powers that the partner of their target held. She was too strong. So strong that Kareem knew that in direct combat, he didn’t stand a chance unless he went all out.
And for him to go all out, he would have to drain all his blood, flesh, and bones in a fight for survival, where even if he wins, it would never be worth it.
Hence the reason, when he orders an escape to his men, all of them would use hit-and-run tactics to annoy Remira from all directions, so it becomes harder for her to focus on any one individual. While they secure the target.
The last distraction during the last step being Kareem himself.
"We are en route! Secure our back."
Even though this was good news, Kareem was not calm at all. Because he can see that Remira was already on her two feet and moving toward him.
And not just that, she seemed to be dodging the explosions before they even happened, narrowing the distance between the two.
"She abandoned him?" Surprised, Kareem knew that the plan had gone awry for a bit.
The obvious clues for misdirection he had left in the scene didn’t work. Instead of following after false leads or even her partner, Remira has chosen to aim at Kareem, who was meant to be the last one to face her.
"Make your escape, she is here," Kareem said while breaking the radio transmitter with his hands.
Hands clad in bladed iron, like a claw.
From his words alone, he hopes that his men will be smart enough to know what to do. Even though there was no time to explain, they should be coming in his direction and aiming to rain down their artillery on Remira.
"Knight of Radiance, I am glad to meet you." He took off the camouflage that covered his head and then kicked away the binoculars. He punched Remira.
A punch that collided with Remira and then exploded, throwing Remira back a bit. "It really was you... it was your blood that exploded before." Remira said, taking her sword back and looking toward Kareem, who hid his face in camouflage.
"Never expected you to be heartless enough to abandon your friend," Kareem said with a laugh, before jumping toward her with his punch, as the needles in his bracers dug deep into his nerves, extracting blood and then powering up the gauntlets.
Each collision would be followed up by a blast, causing massive destruction in the area. Throughout this Remira remained mostly unscathed, with only dust and burnt signs on her clothes. But that was it.
None of Kareem’s attacks were able to phase her during her awakened moment, which was not so noticeable now due to her dyed hair and the false face she wore.
But in a way, things were going in Kareem’s way. No need for complicated measures and as long as they keep Remira away from the target for longer, it won’t be long before it becomes impossible for Remira to find them, if ever again.
Not knowing the simple fact that Remira was a great tracker. One of the best among the Knights.
And it’s not like her specialty will be in use anyways.
Because on the other side, something odd happened.
