Chapter 169: 3.10.1 Leaving Bothal.
I felt it again, this time the pain was too obvious and the image that flashed through my eyes made me understand what was going on. Even if that woman changes her face and looks entirely different, I know who she is. An abandoned piece that was only good for a while. Although I lack the specifics of what my clone did with her, I can already imagine what happened from her looks and the little bits of stories that my niece told me.
At this very moment, she was scared of Grifter. She was scared of the danger he posed or the disaster he might bring in the future. As she lacked any information on cryptids and anomalies, all she could do was use brute force to confirm it all on her own. Killing the poor guy again and again.
Not even caring that he might not grow a head again. Which is a possible thing that can happen. The curse that I implanted in his body was still a new one, it takes time to develop, and not to mention, this is not the old days when curses were rampant and could grow exponentially on their own in little time.
Even though I hated how Remira treated my little pet. I am still glad of what she did, at least this let me catch a glimpse of where he was and what he was doing.
And him being with Remira was just a dressing to the cake. Sadly, I can’t pinpoint his location or access his memories. Only when he dies, do I get to learn something about his situation.
But enough about them, let’s focus on what’s happening at the front.
"Is this a direct order from the men you are working with?"
"Closer to suggestion. And considering all that happened, I don’t see them lying. It would be good for us to hide for now."
A small discussion between two partners. This was a temporary shelter that they had found not too long ago, and before they could settle in, they would have to move from this place soon enough.
That is, until they go to the safehouse I suggested to them.
The topic at hand was different though. The current debate was concerned with Sheva. "What kind of suggestion?"
"They never tell me the details, you can even think of it as a one-sided relationship. But I believe all of us are after the same thing." Max said this with confidence in an effort to ensure Sheva. But she just shook her head. "You truly believe those guys are after the same things?... Even my commander said loads of idealistic things, driving me and my companions to take harsher missions as time went on."
"But when the time came for him to put his foot down and face adversity, he was the first to escape."
"He escaped like a rat, leaving me and my companions to fend off the might of a mage platoon on our own."
Her words were harsh, she spoke of a past that I didn’t know about, so it was harder to confirm if it was true. But from her body language and passion in her voice alone, they were true. Her truth.
I would say, she was very right in her conclusion. I am not like her commander. I am a fine being that helps my comrades to the best of my abilities. So I will help them to the end.
However, no matter how false her mind might be concerning the kind me. Max closed his eyes for a bit and nodded to her. "I don’t trust them, I never did, to begin with. And I know the chance of them abandoning me or even worse, cutting their tail would happen after we have lived past our use."
Hearing his words, the face of Sheva seemed to have calmed down for a bit, it was bizarre how untrusting she was towards me. How she considered me an enemy already when I had helped the two of them so much.
But it was to be expected. By not including my face in this whole matter, I am shielding myself from the consequences and this is what is irking her. Igniting her suspicions towards me and thinking that I am treating them as chess pieces that can be abandoned anytime.
Which was far from the truth. They were great tools, but I rarely abandoned those that I considered my own. But that kind of truth develops with time and experience. And this is what was happening with Max, who seemed to be more adamant about following my words, unlike before, when he would have ignored it and done his own research.
"But for now, they are on our side and wish to see us survive."
"And from our attack on Krugal, you can see how right his words were. The Smeltvers are either behind all these inhuman activities or they are pawns in someone else’s game."
"All of which can be learned on our own later on. But for now, let’s choose to believe in their words.
After a bit more discussion, Sheva ended up nodding her head in agreement. Which had become easier when Max said how I provided them with a safe place. A detail that Max could have used since the start. But no worries, all’s well that ends well.
"When can we shift?" She asked and Max thought for a while. Wondering when the job that I have given him begins. Which in reality was now.
But no matter how rabid the other side was, they were not foolish. Not to mention Blue, who was someone who preferred to have a thorough preparation before striking his targets. Giving ample time for these two to shift their safe houses.
"The one I am in contact with has told me that the place requires ventilation to make it livable. So we can move as long as we have some cables and a giant fan, it might be soon."

This was a day ago and Fahna had left her safe house with most of her staff who went their own ways disappearing into the crowd. But she had no such luxury. She can feel various gazes on her.
Some were friendly, but most of them carried malice within them. ’I have to leave fast.’ The CBI hasn’t made a move yet. But they will soon come for her and if she wastes any time, she might just end up falling into limbo until all the investigations are over.
And from limbo, she meant under "protective" custody, like many others like her in this city who had some sensitive identity.
’Just who are these people? Killing him? Making the matter this big’ She wondered, unaware of the fact that this someone was very close to her and she might be meeting him soon enough.
A meeting that I looked forward to.
But now was not the time.
"Miss, this is your train ticket, it goes directly to Midsilver Bay." Midsilver City was one of the many free cities that were directly under the protection of an Arch level figure or a legend that never belonged to any country.
It was also the closest city that had direct access to the sea. This was not possible for the land-locked state of Pulgasiri.
"Guess I can be considered lucky this time..." She said, thinking how bad it would have been if she didn’t get a ticket on time. Before her, the butler shook his head but chose to keep the fact that he had regularly booked Fahna’s ticket each day a secret, as a security measure.
Which came in handy now, but there is no need to explain this to her. Taking care of his master was what he lived for.
"Hmm? But there is only one?"
"Because one is the only one I can get in such a short time. But don’t worry Miss, they won’t harm a mere butler." Fahna looked at the old fool for a while, before nodding and then climbing the train.
It was time to leave, for now at least.
"Are we going to let her go?"
"Better than us capturing her and earning the ire of that giant... For now, we have to make sure leaves from the port of Midsilver, so follow her until the end of the line."
"But sir, what about the Butler, he chose to stay, he can probably act as a proxy for her."
"Then apprehend him after a day, check what he does in her absence. We have to make sure that he isn’t involved in any of the incidents."
There were movements in the dark and Fahna knew that the eyes on her won’t leave until she reached her country. But none of that mattered much to her.
What she feared most was Salvarez, her hole in the card that might be wasted due to this simple unpredictable accident that had put her plan on hold.
’But not for long.’ She thought to herself, before departing from the city of Bothal.
