Chapter 160: 3.08.1 I narrate.

As Max walked toward Krugal who had lost all his hope at this very second, he asked. "You... If you are here... then who?" Krugal turned to the body that had died under the thunder blast, a body awfully familiar now that he looked at it.

"Seems you should have learned who it was?" There was no need for an answer, as it was too obvious at this point.

So with a backhand at Krugal’s head, Max ripped the heavy armor off of his body and then took him away from the scene before the Police arrived.

As for the burning bastard not too far from him. His body lay on the side, unmoving at this point. Meaning that he had probably died. A good news in Max’s eyes.

"Legs go." Those were his last words, before leaving the scene. Which was harder than he had expected. He knew the direction the Sheva was moving and stepped in the same direction as well.

Looking at the running police that were rushing to the area, while a single jeep filled with armored men was also moving toward it.

Before he knew it, Max noticed a couple of flying figures, obviously mages or someone similar.

’I escaped in time.’ He thought to himself, before wondering if Sheva was safe. An answer he soon got when he found her hiding under the shade of the tree while holding on to the unconscious young dwarf.

"Sheva, leave the boy here. We just need his father."

At first startled by the voice, when her mind identified the voice, she sighed and then looked toward the boy. "He will die." She said, knowing full well what would happen to a weak link like Krotal. But Max just shook his head. "The more baggage we carry, the slower we will get. Also, you are not a knight, once they catch your tail, they will find you."

At those words, Sheva went silent. After some thought, she took out the bandage from her back and covered the hole in Krotal’s neck with it, which was bleeding slowly from the previous injury.

He can be considered lucky though, if not for Sheva’s practiced hand which didn’t harm arteries, he would have long died.

"How many do you expect would be looking for us in the sky?"

"Can’t say, but we can’t stay here for long. Magic, smell, and aura are various ways to detect us in close vicinity. We have to make some distance. The metro is the easiest way."

"Then legs go. I believe they won’t start looking for us in an instant. We should move." Sheva said, leaving the body of Krotal under the tree before she and Max left with the body of Krotal’s father, Krugal Smeltver.

"They are gone?" Krotal spoke to me. No, he spoke to the centipede that was living in his ear.

"Yes, they are gone with your father," I informed the young dwarf, before finally showing some surprise on my end. "Really not sad about what is going to happen to him?" I asked the boy, but he just shook his head.

"Who gives a shit... now I can be free and enjoy this life." He said with a laugh while touching the bandage on his neck. Making a pained sound when he touched the hole that was dug in by Sheva. "And I have to say, it was as amazing as you have claimed it to be... do you see stuff like this daily?"

"Not as efficient as you might assume them to be, young man. Most of the days are boring." I said, making the face of Krugal’s turn a bit disappointed. "Don’t be too sad though, it’s these days of nothingness that make me appreciate when something eventually happens."

"Just keep following me, you will learn how things work." The little dwarf was a bit like my younger self. Which made me appreciate him a bit. That’s why I chose to give him special treatment tonight, letting him be part of a play and he did his part perfectly.

But I can’t control everything, I didn’t expect Sheva and Max to leave the boy so early. This means he would probably die a bizarre death if he were to ever show his face in the open.

Not to mention, Max made a mistake back then, he got fooled and hence is in danger now. But that is it, let him suffer for his mistakes, as my current priority is to lead this man to safety.

And there was only one place in my mind.

"Young man, are you curious over what kind of work your father had his hands into?"

"Hey now, he didn’t speak to me about it. How would I know what he did besides the transport manager stuff?"

"Well, I will tell you. There is a place you have to reach before sunrise, otherwise, I would lose my connection to the centipede."

"... Meaning we have to walk?"

"Yes."

"Another attack of this kind?" Fahna said while hearing the reports over the hidden radio station that was capable of catching the frequency at which the police in Bothal talked.

"Something special?" Fahna had employed a few people from her circle and brought them here with her goal of revenge. Some of them are friends from her life as a mercenary and some of them are lower-level officers from the Wortham principality.

All of them here under the pretext of holidays, but doing espionage under the push of Fahna, putting their lives at risk.

"Can’t say for sure, no survivors from the looks of it, can’t say if these are his puppets or not," Fahna said after learning that a total of four bodies were found.

Two servants, one driver and the fourth one being the bodyguard, who seemed to have been hit by thunder. And most of the house was also in shambles.

"It’s too early to say anything. But considering there was peace in this city before the actions of that one."

"Are you already treating this attack to be his doing?" The man asked, but then shook his head and said. "No need to answer it. I will go get some drinks. Tell me if you need something."

"Some tea would be nice, and some beer for our friend down below, he is probably thirty at this time." The man nodded at Fahna’s words and climbed the stairs. Leaving Fahna alone in the radio room.

But her mind was elsewhere, it had started to run already. ’This is either their action or his... whatever the case, this shows desperation and instability. The clues will be easier to track now.’

With those thoughts, she then turned to look at the man who was sleeping just a floor below her. ’The plan is only a bit behind due to their inaction. They haven’t come to attack him yet as well, I made sure to make our position known, but they haven’t taken the bait here.’

Fahna wanted to leave this place to get to the scene of the accident and find clues herself. But she needs Salveraz, she needs to be on his side to trigger him when the time comes.

Though, her thoughts were for naught and she was currently held back by him.

But she won’t act desperate at this point. All was according to her plans. To properly control Salveraz and drive him to help her in achieving her goal. She needs to believe in her plan and hope that the fools will bite the bait.

’Three more days until he reverts to normal. Three days jumping to plan b.’

"A mask won’t work, it will make others want to look at your real face even more." My words were going over Captain’s head. She was strong, much stronger than me. But it would seem she was still not used to either her strength or her face.

"It’s just temporary, I intend to find a skin mask in the next town. As Mages rarely set up their stalls here." Hmm, it would seem I have looked down on her a bit. She isn’t as stupid as I had assumed her to be.

...

But why do I consider her stupid?

...

Well, let’s go back to the topic. It’s been a few hours since we left the Radiant Hall and I can already see multiple eyes sent our way.

In my case, I wore a giant head which provided shade for my face, while you people already know the current state of Captain Remira with her mask.

What people?

"Captain, I have something to say before moving forward." I stopped Captain as she was going to call for a carriage. "What is it?" She asked, curious as she looked at me. If someone as beautiful as her had looked at me that way, I might have fallen head over heels for her. But there was no such emotion in my heart.

"You know that I have few memories of Jester, correct?"

She nodded at my words, showing that she hadn’t forgotten about it. Which was weird considering she hadn’t asked me anything about him yet. But I thought it would be appropriate to warn her.

"The demon is not sane, and some of his insanity spread to my mind as well," I confessed. I exposed a bit of my weird habits.

Which surprised her a bit, as she said. "Although a bit weird, I haven’t noticed anything wrong with you yet."

She spoke as if she really believed it, or was it an act? I don’t know.

I just told her. "I... I have adopted a habit of narrating everything I witness as if I am telling a story to someone."
