Chapter 154: 3.06.4 A bit of a misunderstanding.

Wonderful place this was. A beautiful one even.

Situated between the mountains that no one liked to occupy, even though it was inside the lands of the Cynark kingdom, their authority never reached these mountains. The small city that slowly prospered under the protection of the Knights also maintained its own autonomy. Free of the politics of the outside world, while treating the First Knight as their god.

Which to me sounded a bit odd, as the First Knight himself had stipulated that no one was to ever worship him. He had detested the religions in his time as a Mortal and fought against multiple churches who had tried to wrong him, one way or another.

He truly is someone to be idolized.

"Please come, we should have a meal first." Jasper, the Mystic, had dragged me through this big school and brought me to an open area. It was the mess hall in fact. And I can see a beautiful woman sitting among a bunch of other Knights, some of whom threw a hateful glare at me.

But the woman on the other hand was surprised. "She looks different." I made a point, letting Jasper know that I had identified this woman.

The woman who is going to be my captain and lead me on this test. The woman who had the power to completely ruin my goal, if she wished it. All of which will depend on whether she likes me or not.

A weird situation, a hateful one. But, it is what it is. I have come to understand that nothing in this world is gained by sitting in one place and looking for help and pity from others. My father and in a way, the bastard had taught me a great lesson on this.

As for this woman, the knight whom Jester had kept a tight watch on. I know her more than she knows me. I can see a path forward and how to make her agree to my request. But it would take time to conjure a proper plan structure.

Just like I was changed, by the looks of this woman and the emotion she displayed while leaving the table of her Knight friends. There was a slight difference in movements and habits she exuded, that was unlike her prior self.

And I think I know the reason.

"As I said, she changed as well. You both are pretty similar in this department." Jasper then looked over Remira who was leaving her table and then came to our table. Though all this time, her eyes were on me, my face, and my habits.

She seemed to be on guard, almost a bit scared and filled with some guilt as well. An odd reaction. But considering the details of the past relationship she had with my father, I can somewhat understand most of those emotions. But I can be wrong as well.

This perceptive nature of mine came after the memories of Jester were ingrained in my head. And I have to say, looking at things from his perspective really gave way to many things, letting me notice lots of details that I would have failed to before.

"Remira Wyrmwood, meet Farhad Maisel. You already know his father." It was as if her fears were confirmed, she paused for a while before naturally sitting on the same table as us and replying. "It’s a pleasure to meet you Farhad, it’s good to see you alive." It came out a bit offensive. But I know she didn’t mean it with any negative connotations. She seemed glad to see me alive.

"So am I to finally meet you, Knight Remira." I shook her hands without much worry, feeling the warmth of her hand that tried to almost consume the curse that was running through my body. But the blood in Remira didn’t do a thing and the handshake ended without much of an issue.

"Now that you both have met. I believe you should know what to do from here?"

"Mister Farhad, your job is to help Knight Remira in her quest. As for what it is, you can ask her." Jasper spoke to me in a clear voice, before turning his head to Remira and spoke in a much kinder voice. "While Knight Remira, you have to assess and see if Farhad Maisel is a good collaborator."

Just say you don’t trust me due to my father.

A father who died a pathetic death while saving me. But I shouldn’t be so harsh on that old man. Even I was, in a way, acting like him. Doing things out of personal desires and my own family.

"Now that is done, talk among yourself. And before you leave, Knight Remria, you have to put in the discharge slip to the Quartermaster. He will provide some provisions on your journey."

"I understand Doctor Jasper."

Hearing the term Doctor, I was a bit surprised. Never expected this young man to not only be a Mystic, but a doctor as well. Wonderful I say.

As here I am, a man forcefully brought to the level of an Adept through curses and modification. A man who had failed his classes and might never get to study again.

A bit of a respite and some disappointment. I really looked forward to being a great magician. But things never go the way one wants them to be. I can only stay jealous of those more talented than me.

’Overreaction?’ I wondered.

’Might be my inferiority complex at play.’ I thought to myself, as my mentality recovered in a moment of seconds, which went unnoticeable by the guests at the table.

And when the goodbyes were over. I was the first one to speak. "Knight Remira, I wonder if we can move to a more private place? I am not used to gazes." I say, turning toward the Knights who seemed to contain immense hatred for me.

Understandable considering the nature of my existence and what kind of people usually join the ranks of Radiant Knights. Most of these Knights were Survivors of the curses, hence they were driven by their goal of annihilation of everything that is corrupt. And why they hated me, who was a byproduct of curses.

Remira nodded to my suggestion, getting up from her chair, she apologized to me with words like the blood of Radiant that detects curses in the area on its own and why these Knights might be angry with me.

A reasonable excuse. But I always find that something about these men is different, there was some other additional reason for their hatred.

"Knight Remira, I don’t believe it’s the blood of Radiant that is causing their hatred toward me." As embarrassed as I was, I still thought it was appropriate for Remira to know this simple fact.

And when we finally entered the small meeting room, she asked for the reason. I just can’t help but laugh. "I wonder if you have noticed your beauty till now?"

The moment these words escaped my mouth, the face of Remira contorted. She seemed offended by these words and how to mute she went after hearing them, it was easier to see that she didn’t treat my words kindly.

"Mister Farhad, I am saying this as your father’s friend. Please have some decency, this is not the time and place for such words." She seemed uptight on this topic, lacking the crass habits she had shown in the Durum city.

But this was to be expected, she had changed, and in a way, she might still be unaware of the appeal she carries with that face and figure.

"Please don’t be offended by my words. I never meant to act crass in this situation." A bit of a harmless smile and hand motions to calm her down. I directly explained what I meant. "The knights before, I wonder if you have noticed it or not. But they were attracted to you, to your beauty."

"Which is unreal, to say the least, and I would prefer if you can hide it during our journey. A beautiful woman usually is a trouble magnet. And considering we will be on a journey, it would be better to decrease any unsure elements as possible."

’This can’t be him.’ She thought, looking at the boy she once treated as a fool and a toy to be used. Even his father had no good opinion of him, treating him like a useless child who needed protection.

But she can’t see the weak and cowardly boy in front of her, no matter how much she tries. Yes, this was her first time meeting this young man, but she had heard a lot about him during her investigations.

How he was bullied, how he was treated by everyone. How he never had a spine to speak up to anyone and how he died after being used as a tool for someone else.

"You... you can’t be him. This is too much. Who are you really?" She asked. Curious over this boy, her body was ready to waste him, if his answer didn’t satisfy her.
