Chapter 111: 2.29.5 End of the Witch

Life is always full of unexpected moments. A fact that made my blood boil if that was physically possible for me.

Currently, whether it was fear of causing Maisel distraction or using the flame rope that bound me as a signifier for Maisel’s health. The man who was called Faust had taken me under his wing. Dragging me to a position in the center of the city, after he sensed the location of the owner of the sigil.

Behind him, there was his small regiment of mages that only amounted to 12 in total, but with each of them outfitted with advanced armor, all of their mighty matched adept knights through physicality alone, while their defense was far higher than a normal Master Knight.

Which when added to the guns mounted on their shoulders as well as the spells they were capable of casting. It was a group of unstoppable tanks whose each step made the street of Durum Reverberate under their impact.

And yes, these Hydraulic armors might be capable of inhuman moments, but it was only possible in bursts. For normal operations like traveling, to conserve energy, they usually use up transport, like a truck and such.

But would a man like Faust use such a normal method when so much was at stake?

Of course not. He ran, along with his men, ignoring the energy drain in his armor, spreading the steam through the streets.

It was like a fog of disaster, a cacophony of thunder, wherever they went.

As for me? I was in the safe hands of two of the Mages, who looked at me weirdly. Using bubble shield spells to safeguard my body, they dragged me across the streets, destroying the lamppost and walls even, while one of Anna’s pets led this small army to the location.

And I gotta say, none of us would have expected that the Army, one of the weakest parties in the city, would have such a trump card.

After teleporting, Remira in her hunger looked around.

First, her eyes turned around the cavern, then to the man who was next to her. Her eyes held back her feeding frenzy, as she used her nose to find where her target had run off to.

Then, she caught it.

This was not the same cavern as the one before, it was more musty, more archaic.

As she ran through the caves, she found rotten tables and chairs in the rooms that might have been dug for who knows how long.

Leaving Maisel on her back, neither acknowledging his existence. Because she didn’t know why, but every time she looked at Maisel, her hunger would increase. A desire to devour him as well as what his flesh holds.

As for Maisel, he was much slower.

"This is..." He had expected to go back to the location where the ceremony was held, not this empty husk where the dead air gave away the state of the facility.

Then using a night vision spell, his eyes lit up like a cat. And he was finally able to get a grasp of where he was.

’Isn’t this the same?’ The architecture of this whole cavern was just like the one before. No, it was a 1-1 copy when everything was taken into account.

And two of such caverns existing at the same time was odd. However, he understood that he was thinking too deeply about it. Feeling a bit and finding that the rope he bound his suicidal son with was still intact.

He moved, following Remira’s footsteps and exploring more of the caves. "This whole place is rotten," he said, finding that even the magical traps that had once existed on the walls were barely functioning. Then there was the case of the small rooms that have been dug out in this cave system.

Mostly holding rotten furniture and sometimes books that might have held some value in explaining what this place was, but the moisture in the air had turned everything rotten as well. Though, even if the books were fine, Maisel wouldn’t have picked them up.

Maintaining some distance from Remira who had started to show some bizarre urges, he followed her, leaving a trail of fire in his wake and matching her speed.

Then, as expected there was a sound of a blast, followed by a scream.

"She caught up." As expected, Remira had turned into the perfect hunting dog. A bizarre dog from a now-dead family, whose death was deserved from Maisel’s perspective. They were rabid, as one noble had called them before their eventual demise.

Of course, their massacre was caused by the noble, no one knew. And considering what happened to that village, turning into a red zone overnight, such a blame would result in someone’s entire family line being executed.

But from Maisel’s own perspective, that old Noble was not wrong with his evaluation. A bunch of beasts that were hard to control. And although Remira appeared as an exception to this, he was not so sure, as something more primal and dangerous always kept glaring at him with hunger.

And this was the reason why he maintained some distance now. However he still followed in an attempt to right his wrong.

So when Maisel came across the scene he shot a fire blast between Remira and the Woman she had been hunting so much.

"Stop, she will die at this point," Maisel warned, glaring at Remira who held a piece of broken arm with a gun clutched on it.

Around her body, ice spread far and wide, the walls were destroyed and the marks of claws were everywhere.

Maisel can’t count how much cold energy was active in the air, but he knows, that if a normal person were to step in here, they would freeze to death in an instant.

As for the cause of such carnage, A woman who was backed into a corner, holding her bleeding shoulder, now lacked an arm. There was no relief on her face when Maisel saved her. For she knew that nothing good comes when one is saved by a man like Maisel.

As for the wolf, who was completely immune to the ice attacks, it seemed to ignore the order of Maisel, while she spit out the broken arm of Dantalian, which was still clutching onto Pierta’s gun.

It would seem, in desperation, that the weapon that Dantalian ended up using had in turn caused Remira to become angrier.

But before Remira could eat Dantalian’s head with a single bite, Maisel’s body burst into fire and he appeared beside Dantalian.

A fiery teleport that left a trail of fire in his wake, burning parts of Dantalian’s flesh, but also throwing Remira a bit back. "Remira, we need her to reach the true location." Maisel didn’t mean to harm Remira. Not currently that is, as both of their goals were pretty much the same. So fighting each other for something as simple as this might be a tad bit stupid.

And in his perspective, the only reason Remira would attack Dantalian again would be when Remira really has given up her reason to anger.

Which was not the case as it seemed.

After Remira heard Maisel’s words, a sense of clarity appeared in her head again. In her eyes, Maisel looked way more delectable to her than Dantalian, and it was not due to the power the two parties held. It was something else. But that hunger was still weaker than her teachings at the end.

She can’t let her animalistic nature take hold of her. So, she backed off a bit after growling, showing her capabilities of reason, while turning and then picking up a gun that was in Dantalia’s broken arm.

A gun that she had seen since her childhood. Now stained with enemy blood, it looked dirty and old. But to her, it still held a lot of value.

So, she picked it up with her two sharp fingers with some effort. Before devouring it in her stomach for safekeeping.

As for Maisel, seeing that Remira had backed off, he turned to the woman who was cringing in pain. "Speak, how to get there, where the ceremony is being held." With his firm grip, he tightly closed on the remaining arm, breaking it in the process.

"Ah... you bastard." Dantalian cursed, freezing her broken arm and having used up the last bits of mana her body held. Now she was completely drained and defenseless. Not to mention, her interrogator was none other than a Marshall like Varkus Maisel. Meaning, this small thing might just be the start. Though, none of it mattered anyway.

She had no value to begin with anymore.

The mark of reincarnation was stamped on her back as well. She might revive with her memory intact, just like Adam.

As for how she was sure that Maisel was going to kill her so soon?

"Haha! This is the dead end, the portal that you followed me through, it was barely functioning..."

At those words, Maisel lifted her by the neck, while his fiery palm started to roast the flesh of Dantalian’s neck. However, he only did enough to cause pain, never going too far to damage the vocal cords.

"Speak, what do you mean?" He asked, no, it was more of a thread. And depending on how she answers, it will determine her fate.

But would this phase her?

She was from Blue Lotus, and even though she knew the low rate of success of the reincarnation marks. There was still some chance, so some torture before her death mattered not to her. "Why.. angrrey.. With me?"

At those words, Maisel dropped her body to the floor, and before she could understand what was going on, Maisel took her remaining arm and twisted it bizarrely, causing blood to pour out of it.

Making it look mangled.

"Answer it properly this time, what is it?" His voice was colder than ice, as he danced his finger around Dantalian’s body, causing the pain to proliferate.

There was no need to use drugs at this point. It was inhumane of what happened to Dantalian after it.

Her burnt face she had been hiding with a mask was the least of her concerns. And even Remira, who had turned her face away in fear of her hunger, even wondered just what kind of things Dantalian was suffering from.

Though, there was no pity at all. She just worried that enough of that torture might kill Dantalian. A woman who was meant to be food.

"Remira, go have your fill, I got what I wanted from her..." Maisel informed her, appearing tired and defeated. As if what he found from Dantalian, broke all the hope he had for saving this city.
