Chapter 103: 2.28.2 Sleep

"Oh wraith, I wonder why you would help us. From what I can see, you already found what you were looking for." A man had asked me such a question in the past while he considered me weird and stupid.

A contract where I gained very little, which might have confused him who stood at the top of the world.

Though, at that time, he found my answer absurd, now if he had been here, he might have changed his mind.

"We will be leaving," Maisel announced after getting the information he needed along with a way to take me out of his son’s body. Of course, whether it works or not, I didn’t know.

’Won’t you wait till the end of the ceremony and watch her descent?’ Adam asked, with a curious smile on his face, he really seemed to genuinely wish for Maisel to stay here. But Maisel just declined. "With this, our fate is severed, I would prefer if you don’t pursue me anymore. Otherwise, the next meeting won’t be so cordial as it is now." What happened here would be a stain on his legacy.

Helping a bunch of terrorists resurrect their god in the middle of the city would make him a public enemy.

But that is if they knew of it. For one, he has to get rid of the Jester that hides in his son’s body and not through the flames of Samadhi that he possesses. No, he needs to get rid of it through the simple method that Adam told him.

Of course, it appeared simple in words only, as for whether it will truly work depends on fae.

"As long as your government doesn’t send you toward us, we won’t come to you anymore." Adam was adamant in his voice, he appeared to be giving up on Maisel. And why wouldn’t he do so?

Although Maisel was merely a Master level figure like him, the flames he possessed were still something dangerous. And even though he still had an Archmage backing him up in the form of Vanessa, there was also the young Kairut, who was overlooking the whole event with interest.

While on the other side, Dantalian kept her eyes on me. Seemingly wanting to kill me. No, she probably planned something worse for me.

Then, just like he came here, Maisel approached me, unraveled the barrier spell, and gave me a long look. "Oh you, I am pretty shy. So look away." A playful tone worthy of execution, the man just looked at me, before slamming my head in, putting me out for good.

Then he turned to Kairut, ready for his revenge.

Though the old man that turned young just smiled. "I choose to stay here, I wish to witness it with others." He spoke with no intention to leave.

Which finally lit up the light in Dantalian’s eyes on the side.

She has watched from the side all this time, waiting for an opportunity to exact her revenge. Which never arrived due to certain circumstances.

She didn’t even know if the bastard knew what he did to his precious pet. But in fear of angering Maisel, she didn’t say a word about Remira. Though from Maisel’s reaction to Maxim’s fate, he didn’t seem someone that would be offended by it at all.

But now, she had an opportunity, Maisel was left alone, without Kairut to watch his back. Which was understandable considering the two were enemies.

Not to mention, he was bringing the bastard with himself, away from Kairut.

"You can go after them, bring some soldiers and that police chief, he seemed to want some revenge from the Marshall," Vanessa ordered her pupil through voice transmission.

Though, she didn’t care much about it afterward, as her mind was on the old Maxim who was sleeping inside the coffin. "Cadre Adam, we have wasted enough time. Please proceed with the ceremony."

"Of course Cadre Vanessa, It’s what I have been reborn for." Arrogance spilled from Adam’s voice as he spoke to Vanessa. And after seeing that Maisel had left through a teleportation circle, he turned to look at Kairut. "Archmage Kairut I presume?" He asked.

"Before you ask, I am just here to witness whatever you have been planning in this city and if possible. Collect the other half of this book." Kairut said as a space opened up on his side and a book fell out of it. "Though, if I am lucky, I might just get something greater."

"Considering that this whole ceremony wouldn’t be possible without the input of your master, we are very thankful for his work. And of course, in his absence, we can only thank you instead."

"And it is why I promise to provide you with the rest of the notes when this ceremony is over, no, it would be better if you can help us."

Kairut agreed to all the terms without worry, there was no need to deny it when he was getting the rest of the knowledge without much effort.

Not to mention, Jester was not here and this was also a no-rat zone, with a giant formation circle set up with the only purpose of keeping the prying eyes away. Making Kairut really happy.

It was why he stayed here, instead of going with his master and he is also thankful to Maisel for he didn’t let Jester give out another order. Otherwise, he would have been forced to follow.

"Begin!" With those words from Adam’s lips, the whole cave started to unravel itself.

By forming a contract with Kairut, who was originally against it, but came around after seeing the simple constrictions. No one can be said to be a foreigner here. So there was no need to keep the little illusion anymore as well.

This was why the ceiling of the cave turned blurry as the sky was exposed in the open, much to everyone’s surprise.

"??"

They were confused as well as curious, wondering where they actually were for the moons to appear so close. As it was definitely not underground, nor was it close to the city as otherwise, one would have been easily able to witness the tall buildings.

.Of course, only a few had such thoughts, as most of the people were still occupied by admiring the two moons in the sky that appeared a bit yellower than usual.

Moons that aligned perfectly with the giant mechanical contraption that was mimicking the starry sky, in the center of which was the coffin where Maxim slept.

Seeing that this was the perfect opportunity, although she had some regrets, Dantalian left after ordering some of her men to follow her, along with dragging the broken body of Remira, which had shaken up under the light of the moon.

Though none noticed such things.

Adam just ignored the existence of Dantalian, while Dantalian was too blind by her own revenge.

The Knights of Radiant looked around as the rate at which the curse spread was increasing by the minute.

Rushing out from the warehouse and meeting Haseem once again, the Knights moved out and rushed out in a hurry as they felt that their things were getting worse by a second.

Vance on the other hand started ruminating on Remira’s words, wondering if she really lied. Though, this was not the time for that. Because as he came to the streets, he saw that the previous soldiers he put inbound as well as various men that had started to come out of their house to loot or mess around had already fallen to the floor.

"The curse of Gregory Street is spreading."

And this time, it was not just a single street, it was the whole city that was currently suffering from the spread of the curse.

The first to fall were the mortals, without any mental defense or curse-averting artifacts or talismans, their weak mind was the first to fall, as they fell into their sleep in an instant.

The next were the rodents and the street animals, who too fell asleep without a bark or cry, much to Vance’s apprehension, as this told that the curse was not focused on humans only, but everything can fall for this curse.

"We have to hurry."

It was during this time, a voice reverberated in the sky.

A voice asking for the mages to regroup and fight back against the curse.

"We would also like to ask any military personnel that can resist the curse and the mercenaries from the Dorian District. Please do your best to help us stop this disaster from happening."

An old voice filled with immense authority that was loud enough to reach even the warehouse district of Durum City. As for the identity of this voice.

Vance knew.

"His voice, we have to inform them." Vance knew that the Military and the Mages were having negotiations, meaning that currently, the military personnel were present where the voice originated from.

"Haseem, lead me to the closest outpost... we have to inform them of the rat nest."

Under his order, the rest of the knights rushed from the scene. With Haseem in the lead, they didn’t struggle against anything, besides the curse that had now surrounded them. Which in truth was not that much of a problem for them.

They innately resisted curses of this level, their blood was just that strong.

"That way."

It didn’t take long for the group of seven to arrive at the outpost, where most of the security had already fallen asleep.

Though, they didn’t need the help of these sleeping soldiers anyways. Rushing toward the radio, the group changed multiple channels to search for any activity, before coming across one that was still sending out a signal.
