The Girl Who Hacked The Magic System -
Chapter 125 - Aftermath
Chapter 125: Chapter 125 - Aftermath
We found the maids and butlers that work at the mansion tied up in the basement and freed them. Then put the invaders in that same place, tied up and freed of anything that could be dangerous in their hands.
Apparently, the king began showing the same symptoms of being a victim of vampirism, so Lillian and Levinna went to the palace to help him, leaving the estate empty, except for the workers.
Which is the moment the Church decided to strike.
"We’ll have to do a very thorough interrogation to extract any information from these people."
We are in the dining room: head butler Ragenardus (whom I affectionately call Ragen), Lovelace, and I.
One of the maids is already on her way to the palace to tell Lillian about what happened here.
"I will do the interrogation this time, Aurea. These people are with the Church, and one of them is the high bishop. Your methods would create some extra level of antagonism by the Church."
"I hate to admit it, but you’re right. I would love to give those priests an early peek at the pleasures of Hell, but we can’t trigger the war before we’re ready."
"Exactly. Though, the vampire thing is bugging me. This seems to corroborate our theory that the vampire was working in collusion with the Church."
"Indeed. Though it sounds weird to my ears to have a church and a vampire working together. I thought that the two were the most mortal of enemies."
"Reality is often weirder than stories, Aurea."
"You’re right, Lovelace. You’re right. Ragen, did they ask anything from you? Were they looking for anything specific?"
"They mostly asked for the personal quarters and offices of you and your mothers and also asked about any secret rooms and passages. They also did some questioning regarding demon summonings."
"Demon summonings? Where did they come up with that from?"
"Maybe they were hoping to find any incriminating evidence?"
The rooms and offices were thoroughly turned upside down, signs that they were doing a very thorough search.
"In any case, they will be executed, right? Assaulting the home of the royal princess is an act of high treason."
"The lower-ranking ones, probably. I doubt that we can afford to execute the high bishop, though."
"Hm... He was one of the guys who fell to my gravity aria. It would be troublesome if the Church learns about it."
Ugh... this is blowing up out of proportion. What a way to finish the trip that was so amazing.
The door suddenly bursts open, and Lily quickly jumps inside.
"Aurea! Lovelace! Are you two okay?"
"Yes, Mom. I can’t say the same about the mansion, though."
"I don’t care about the mansion. I care about you. Are you hurt?"
"I’m okay, Mom. It would take more than a couple of craven priests to hurt me. You don’t need to worry."
"I told you, Lily. Our daughter is stronger than you give her credit for."
"And where are the priests?"
Oohhhhh, I know that fire in your eyes, Mom. I fear I can’t let you have your way with them right now.
Gladly, Levinna intervenes again.
"Contain yourself, Lily. If you jump the trigger now, things with the Church will be harder. Leave it to me. Please."
"But they..."
"No ’but’ me, Lily. This is my home as well, and Aurea is my daughter as well. I know the look in your eyes, and I know very well what will happen to the guys down there if I let them in your hands."
"And they deserve it."
"I don’t deny that. But we’ll be playing into the Church’s hands if we follow the ’deserve’ logic. This is a war of attrition, Lillian Annes. If we overplay our cards, we’ll be short of cards by the end."
"Mom, I know how you feel, and I feel the same way. But Levy is right. There’s only one thing, Levy. We need to have all of them executed, because I had to use some of my hidden trumps to deal with them."
"Well, since what they did was basically commit High Treason against the crown, I guess that would be the fate that awaits them anyway."
"What Aurea didn’t say, Levy, is that one of them is the High Bishop."
"What?"
"WHAT?"
My mothers’ reaction is really funny right now. Their faces look like the eyes are about to jump.
"Yeah, there’s that. The High Bishop came personally to oversee the action."
"So it was a very official action of the Church. It was practically a declaration of war on their part."
"Oh, that reminds me... how is grandpa?"
"He is well. The vampire didn’t appear again after we went there."
"So it really was just a diversion to take you out of this mansion. The vampire is very probably working with the Church."
"And he might even be hidden down beneath the temple, in that place that I wasn’t able to reach."
A maid brings us freshly baked cookies and some juice.
I want teeeaaaaaaaa.
This would be the best moment for a cup of tea to calm the nerves.
"Please, take some to the maids and butlers and eat as well. You had a harder time than us."
"Thank you, Your Highness."
The maid leaves the room with a big smile on her face. They deserve it.
"So, what do we do now?"
I ask, and the first to answer me is Lovelace.
"I need to go back to the palace and stand guard to make sure the vampire doesn’t come back again. I’ll send in some knights to take the priests to the dungeons and also inform the king and queen of everything that transpired here."
"Great. Thank you very much, Lovelace. I’ll hear from Aurea about what happened on your trip to the beastkin tribe."
"That would be nice, to make her take her mind off the guys below."
"Hey, I’m not planning any torture here in silence, okay?"
"I didn’t say you were. You are the one saying it."
"Damn you!"
