The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 84: A Soft Kiss
Chapter 84: A Soft Kiss
Xu Feng observed the fear in the eyes of the servants around him, finding it interesting, but he couldn’t help but wonder how long this newfound "respect" would actually last.
People, he knew, were notoriously fickle. Maybe they were afraid the night before, and maybe even after hearing about the confrontation this morning, they might be frightened again.
But people’s hearts could change quickly, and beneath the surface, some still aimed lustful gazes toward his "husband."
As he observed the bustling activity in the yard, with the young master and his entourage following closely, Xu Feng felt a sense of relief that these spineless people would soon be leaving his home.
With them gone, not only Blooming courtyard but the entire estate would become a sanctuary for him. There, he could feel safe, free from the constant threat that lingered in the background.
Xu Feng recognized the practical need for more hands to maintain the estate. While the Blooming courtyard was spacious, he mainly occupied the back section where his house, kitchen, greenhouse, and cellar were located.
"We’re going to need more people to manage everything during winter," he remarked coolly.
Xuan Yang nodded in agreement, acknowledging the necessity of additional help.
The two girls of his courtyard, Si and San, couldn’t be left to maintain this courtyard as well. Also, who would be maintaining the Budding courtyard of the young master?
Xuan Yang had brought only his lover, Xuan Jian, and two strong men with him. The group accompanying them was relatively small, which seemed fitting considering the tensions that still lingered.
Xu Feng found himself with a bit of a headache as he considered the multitude of tasks that lay ahead. Once the Xuan family left, he would need to dive into his money burning adventures.
He left Si and San in their courtyard, ensuring that they kept a watchful eye to prevent any funny business from occurring. Although they weren’t a big deterrent, they could at least let Xu Feng know if anyone came by.
Xu Feng was uncertain about what the Xuan family was capable of, and he had no intention of taking any risks in his home. Meanwhile, Erlang was stationed in the servants’ quarters, where the older Nanshan estate servants were preparing to leave the estate permanently.
As he observed the commotion of packing and the seemingly endless luggage and servants, Xu Feng couldn’t help but feel lost. It was a cultural shock for him to see the extravagant and elaborate preparations that accompanied such a short stay of less than a week.
This extravagant lifestyle was in stark contrast to his own humble beginnings in the modern world.
Inwardly, he yearned for the simplicity of his new life—a life without the complexities of cultivation, the intricacies of ABO dynamics, or the hustle and bustle of city life. His goal was to embrace a slower, more tranquil existence, free from the intrigues and politics of this mixed-up world.
Even if someone came flying at him on a sword, Xu Feng would remain unwavering in his goal to live a peaceful, uneventful life. He had the potential to excel in various fields—as a top merchant, a renowned scholar, an arms dealer, or even a groundbreaking farmer who introduced revolutionary agricultural techniques.
The possibilities were endless with modern knowledge and years of reading on his side.
He could choose to become a scholar specializing in uncovering the mysteries of the ABO world. In the world of cultivation, he could embark on the path to immortality and truly become a demon fox.
These adventures were appealing, but above all, Xu Feng desired the simplicity of a slow and slothful life. It was a yearning for a peaceful existence, far removed from the complex world that he had found himself in.
It wasn’t about wasting away or being unproductive, but rather about embracing a simpler existence. To him, being a farmer or just a homeowner, living life at a more relaxed pace, didn’t equate to a lesser existence.
In his view, everyone should be the protagonist of their own life, writing their own story at their own pace.
As they watched the bustling activities of the servants and the packing of the estate, Xu Feng couldn’t help but wonder if the slow life might be a nice change for both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian as well.
However, he knew that eventually, they would return to Jinghua—the young master of the Xuan family and his loyal companion and lover. While they might enjoy a temporary stay from their city lives, their duties and responsibilities would inevitably call them back to the bustling capital.
As he observed both men, Xu Feng found himself staring at them with a distant look in his eyes.
They were no longer the same cold and distant men he had initially met. Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian had slowly but surely revealed their warmer, more genuine sides, shedding the icy facade that had initially defined their demeanor.
Their transformation had been a pleasant surprise for Xu Feng, and he couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unexpected connection they had developed.
Xuan Jian, despite the numerous eyes and ears present, managed to send a small, reassuring smile in Xu Feng’s direction. The bustling activity of the servants all around was a reminder that they were being watched not just within the Xuan main house but also by unseen observers at all times.
Xuan Jian wanted to reassure the troubled ger with a lonely look in his eyes. Although he couldn’t be certain of what was on Xu Feng’s mind, it was evident that something was bothering him.
Feeling Xuan Jian’s nudge, Xuan Yang paused in his observation of the servants and turned his gaze toward the disturbed Xu Feng.
Xuan Yang couldn’t resist the urge to squeeze the hand he held in his palm, a silent gesture of reassurance. These hands weren’t soft; they had the texture of a life spent working on a farm. Yet, they possessed a delicate beauty, not unlike his own scholar’s hands.
The usually ethereal expression on Xu Feng’s face remained deep in thought, and he appeared somewhat distant. It was this unusual distance in Xu Feng that prompted Xuan Yang to act impulsively. He leaned in, tenderly kissing Xu Feng’s left eye, causing him to close it and refocus.
The two men locked eyes in an intense silence.
In the background, a few dropping sounds could be heard as the servants who had been discreetly observing the scene lost their concentration.
