The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 77: The Resurgence

Chapter 77: The Resurgence

As time flowed steadily onwards, the four remaining immortal bloodlines, along with all the clans they divided into, witnessed a gradual decline in their innate strength.

While some retained traces of their animal characteristics, the power of their divine blood had significantly waned. On the other hand, for those born to servant families, any inherited characteristics were often weaker.

In the intricate heritage of the Dongzhou continent, attributes such as hair and eye color had only a little to do with the strength or purity of one’s bloodline.

Instead, the presence of animal characteristics was a more highly prized trait. Features like the scales that adorned the bodies of Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang held a special value in the eyes of their people.

Among the human population, some clung to the belief that hidden immortal beasts still existed on the vast Dongzhou continent, concealed like secretive or reclusive families.

However, for clans like the Xuan’s, whose lineage was carried by only Xuan Muchen and Xuan Yang, the harsh reality of their diminishing bloodline was evident. If things continued at this pace, it would take just one or two generations before they were reduced to humans, born into snake clans but stripped of their divine heritage.

The other bloodline families faced similarly distressing circumstances. Despite their struggles, the unstoppable passage of time showed no mercy, pushing the once-mighty immortals closer to the abyss.

Descendants with potential but weakened bloodline connections were undeniably a rarity. Xu Feng, as a fox beast descendant with a striking full head of silver hair, was an exceptional find.

His unique features made him highly sought after not only in Jinghua but also in cities across Donghua and even in the other territories of Dongzhou.

Lady Xuan had unknowingly secured a precious asset in him, particularly with the alluring deep red mole that marked his fertility as a ger. It was evidence of the family’s desire for power that they were willing to send Xu Feng to Xuan Jian’s bed without truly understanding his full potential.

Yet, Lady Xuan’s vanity clouded her judgment.

If she had been more shrewd, she would have recognized the potential of having Xu Feng as an important member of their family—using him as a trophy wife, not a secret to be hidden—even if his value was reduced to his striking hair color.

He could have easily served as a powerful status symbol for the Xuans, elevating their prestige among their social circles.

However, as the matriarch of the Xuan family, Lady Xuan lacked the knowledge of an immortal beast lineage. Her understanding of their importance was shallow, and she saw Xu Feng as nothing more than a tool to be used, a means to enhance her grandchild’s social standing.

In stark contrast, both Xuan Jian and Xuan Yang understood the true value of Xu Feng, appreciating his worth beyond his physical appearance.

It was Xuan Yang’s love for Xuan Jian that seemed to be the driving force behind his agreement to the marriage contract and his commitment to ensuring Xu Feng’s contentment during their agreement period. Xuan Yang and his lover recognized the village ger’s exceptional intelligence and innate value.

Even Xuan Muchen and the suspicious Muyang had begun to realize the potential in Xu Feng. If they were wiser, they might have treated him with greater consideration.

However, they were used to having their way as members of a large prosperous noble family, the opinions and feelings of a village ger was not their concern.

Even though Xu Zeng’s dad came from the capital, no one was interested in his background as a servant.

Instead, the striking silver hair that adorned his head led most to conclude that he must have been a servant of the Deng family or the Bai family, the only two immortal blood descendants of the fox beast in the Donghua capital.

Regardless of his origins, Xu Feng had already married into the Xuan family. The Dengs and Bais couldn’t claim him as one of their own illegitimate offspring without the family’s consent, even if such a scenario were true.

With the appearance of Xu Feng, the birth of Xuan Yang, and other promising children in Jinghua and other cities, the prophecy from old seems to be true. There was a resurgence in the blood.

No one knows just how strong Xuan Yang’s bloodline is or that Xuan Jian also has potent blood. But it has always been said that when the bloodline spikes and the downward trend reverses, immortals from the heavens come to reclaim their "chosen ones."

Whether this was true or not, and the "chosen" would ascend in the next decade or not, was still up for debate. In this climate of uncertainty, the opportunity to marry someone with even the slightest hint of the immortal bloodline could be a game-changer for a noble family.

The allure of titles and status still held great value for those in positions of power. Even if the strength of old was gone, a title was still worth it for those in power.

Villagers however didn’t fully recognize how powerful Xu Zeng’s lineage was, or how much status he could have brought them, or how much nobles would have paid to take him, with his silver hair, as a bride.

Xu Zeng’s stepmother had sold her stepson for a bargain price. If she had been more patient, she could have gotten a significantly higher price and unknown benefits.

As Xu Feng pondered the information he’d received from Xuan Yang the previous night, a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions churned within him. Much of what he had suspected now appeared to be validated, but at the same time, a flood of new insights and details had entered the equation.

One aspect of the puzzle was why Xuan Yang had agreed to Lady Xuan’s marriage proposal. Even if they were to have a powerful child together, would that child be able to ascend while Xuan Yang remained with Xuan Jian in Donghua?

It didn’t quite add up, and Xu Feng couldn’t grasp the entire story. There had to be more layers to the agreement between Xuan Yang and Lady Xuan, something beyond what he currently knew.

It was possible that Lady Xuan had made certain promises or deals with Xuan Yang in exchange for their marriage, but Xu Feng was in the dark about the specifics.
