Chapter 62: Winter Warmth

Chapter 62: Winter Warmth

As Si, San, and Erlang worked hard to load the wheelbarrow for the final trip from the kitchen, Xu Feng’s mind was already occupied with additional tasks.

Steward Wu had just slaughtered all the animals in the Nanshan mansion, there was no way this was all that was left. What about the bones and skin of the animals?

Xu Feng instructed Erlang to lead the way to the slaughter area. He would know where Steward Wu had people slaughter the animals. They could collect any remnants left from the animal slaughter area. Fur, bones, and any remaining meat were all to be preserved for the winter ahead.

This was his home legally, and everything within it belonged to him. The Xuans were mere guests taking liberties in his household, and that was unforgivable. It was one thing if they treated him kindly, but they didn’t.

He wasn’t their property, in fact, this was all his property. The Nanshan estate was already in his name, and he had a contract to prove the justification for his ownership of the land. He hadn’t coerced anyone into giving him the property.

Si, San, and Erlang’s labor resulted in several more trips, which unveiled the sheer amount of animal resources existing in the Nanshan courtyard.

Xu Feng now understood the shock Xuan Jian experienced when he shared that Steward Wu slaughtered all the estate’s animals. The estate boasted a large number of animals, more than enough to host a lavish wedding feast and provide food for the coming winter.

It was more than enough for Steward Wu to make a gain without robbing Xu Feng blind. It was just greed, he wanted it all and was reluctant to share these resources with Xu Feng and his people, so he had no intention of sharing with them either.

Once the last wheelbarrow had been filled, Xu Feng turned his attention to the kneeling servants. The winter day was chilly, and it must have been uncomfortable for them, but Xu Feng remained stubborn.

Their sufferings were of no concern to him as the young mistress of the Xuan family. They had made their bed, and now they would have to sleep in it.

With the kitchen now cleaned and his treasures stored away, Xu Feng headed back to his courtyard. Several hours had passed since their departure, but it was still too early to begin dinner preparations.

At first, the goods were neatly organized within the Blooming courtyard kitchen, filling the cupboards to capacity and spilling over. After a bit of organizing, the only items left in the kitchen were enough to last them a month.

Everything else, except for the unprocessed meat, had been transferred to the cellar. They would need to take their time to process the remaining meat to ensure it would last through the winter months.

Xu Feng briefly contemplated resting for a moment, but he had plans to start growing plants in his greenhouse. He intended to put this project into motion soon, especially with the Xuans and the remaining servants leaving soon.

His legs threatened to give out, and the strain they had endured the previous night was now making itself known.

Sighing, Xu Feng addressed the group of children. "Everyone, take a rest," he instructed, his voice gentle but firm. "Erlang, you can rest in the small reception room before we start preparing for dinner."

The two girls nodded eagerly and rushed off to fetch bedding for Erlang’s midday rest. They were exhausted after hauling so much food, but at least they now had meat to eat!

"Young mistress, I can start handling the meat," Erlang offered, eager to be of help. Physical labor like this didn’t tire him out easily.

Xu Feng smiled warmly, and his aura finally relaxed a bit. These children never failed to warm his heart. "I know you’re strong, Erlang."

The boy blushed at the compliment, even though he was only a year younger than Xu Feng. The young mistress had a mature character that was sometimes surprising.

"When we’re preparing dinner later, I’ll need your help getting the greenhouse ready for seeding. I want to start planting as soon as possible, and we’ll be heading into town tomorrow to gather supplies for winter."

Erlang seemed taken aback by the mention of shopping. They were going shopping again?

Xu Feng smiled at the gentle giant before heading back to his room. He planned to sort through things and make a list of what they needed to buy in town the next morning. There were many tasks ahead of him, but his bed was summoning him so desperately and sweetly.

Beneath his feet, the floors were heated, a welcome luxury during the cold winter months. They emitted a gentle warmth that spread throughout the room, leaving every corner comfortably temperate.

The previous night had been far from restful, the opposite of restful, and Xu Feng couldn’t resist the charm of sleep but he fought it desperately.

Xu Feng’s room was a haven of comfort and warmth. At the center of it all was the king-sized bed, a luxurious expanse of softness and indulgence. The mattress cradled him, offering a perfect balance of support and plushness. It was large enough to stretch out in any direction without the fear of falling off.

A warm duvet, with its inviting fluffiness, covered the bed. Its weight cocooned him, providing a sense of security and tranquility. The duvet was so cozy that it felt like being enveloped in a gentle embrace.

As Xu Feng settled into the king-sized bed, cocooned by the warm duvet, he knew he was in for a restful sleep. The combination of the comfortable bed, cozy bedding, and the house’s radiant warmth was a recipe for peaceful slumber, especially after a long and tiring day.

He curled up under his blanket, and before he knew it, he had dozed off.

Xu Feng felt an intriguing sensation against his thighs, cold and pressure melding together. The icy compression against his thighs felt familiar yet foreign.

The sensation was uncanny; he’d felt this feeling before, and his body was responding to the illusive memory.
