Chapter 612: How to Tame Your Wild Lover
His brother and said brother’s... fiancés?
Xu Feng still wasn’t entirely sure what to call them.
It wasn’t hesitation exactly—not in the way others might assume. He had two husbands himself, although it wasn’t planned, but how could he even begin to judge?
Just...Confusion.
A big bit of confusion about the whole thing.
But even as the thought lingered in his mind, he found himself smiling.
Xu Hu Zhe had once said he liked tall gers, and by general standards, Bai Mo was considered tall. Not as tall as Xu Feng himself, but taller than the average ger like Lee Hua, who was barely over 5 feet tall. Life had a strange way of working things out.
He had originally wanted to play matchmaker for Xu Hu Zhe, but things had ended up much differently than he could have ever planned and he hadn’t even put anything into motion.
As Xu Feng stepped into the large study in Budding Courtyard’s main house, he found all three exactly where he thought they’d be.
Bai Mo was leaning over Xu Hu Zhe, his fox ears twitching slightly as he spoke. He was explaining something in a low, smooth voice, and Xu Hu Zhe was listening attentively, utterly focused on whatever knowledge he was being taught.
They were facing away from the entrance, likely unaware of Xu Feng’s presence.
To the side, sprawled lazily on an oversized beanbag chair—one Xu Feng was fairly certain he had picked up from the zombie world, but honestly, he wasn’t sure anymore—was another silver-haired figure.
Xu Zeng.
Unlike his two companions, Xu Zeng wasn’t hunched over dusty scrolls or thick exam-prep manuals. No, the book in his arms was distinctly modern, its sleek, well-printed pages standing out against the traditional parchment and bound texts scattered around the room.
Xu Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly as he read the title.
How to Tame Your Wild Lover
...
He blinked.
...
What?
Xu Zeng, completely unfazed, continued flipping through the pages, his expression as casual as if he were reading a book on agricultural techniques.
But it didn’t stop there.
At the same time, he was absently playing with the dark red tail in front of him—Bai Mo’s tail. He twirled the silky strands idly between his fingers, occasionally stroking or giving a teasing flick.
Bai Mo’s fox ears twitched every time Xu Zeng tickled his tail, but aside from an occasional flick of his ear, he didn’t react. His focus remained solely on his teaching. Although his reddened neck showed that the teasing of his tail wasn’t going unnoticed.
Xu Feng exhaled through his nose, equal parts amused and resigned. In this group of three—good brothers and blood brothers—his brother was clearly the problematic seed...
At the very least, the room was warm in a way that had nothing to do with temperature.
Xu Hu Zhe, with his dark blue-black hair, now with flawless skin—the once visible silver scales that used to frame the lower half of his jawline were now hidden—he was unable to fully turn into a snake, but at the very least retract the scales.
With or without the scales though, Xu Hu Zhe was handsome. Paired with Bai Mo’s softer looks and Xu Zeng’s tempting features, Xu Hu Zhe looked like he belonged here. His scales had faded over the last few months, thanks to Xu Zeng’s constant work in helping him control his beast and Xu Feng feeding them foods grown and enriched with his abilities.
This—whatever this was—it was something real.
No matter how the three had found each other, they had. It didn’t need to make sense to him, as long as it made sense to them. If it was what they wanted, he would support them. Now if they broke up, it would be hard to say whose legs he should break... first.
"Shouldn’t you be studying for the exam?" Xu Feng finally broke the silence, crossing his arms as he looked pointedly at Xu Zeng.
Three pairs of eyes snapped toward him at once.
Xu Zeng blinked slowly before setting his book down on his chest like nothing was out of place. "I am studying."
Xu Feng arched an eyebrow, nodding toward the book. "Really? And what scholarly wisdom is that offering?"
Xu Zeng followed his gaze, then—without a hint of shame—turned the book around so Xu Feng could see the title more clearly.
How to Tame Your Wild Lover: 101 Strategies for Winning Over a Difficult Partner.
Silence.
Bai Mo couldn’t read the modern script but could tell something was amiss from the look on Xu Feng’s face. Instead of probing further, he yanked his tail from Xu Zeng’s hand in what Xu Feng could only guess was an attempt at being discreet.
Xu Hu Zhe nodded at Xu Feng but then looked away, suddenly very focused on the paper in front of him. He wasn’t new to the way the two brothers bantered, not anymore. He knew who would win, and he wasn’t interested in the book.
Xu Zeng had promised both Xu Hu Zhe and Bai Mo after the Shengyuan exam and Bai Mo’s palace exam this spring, that he would teach them to read this "modern script." It wouldn’t be too late to read all the books Xu Feng and Xu Zeng now stored in this study, the large library, and the study in Blooming Courtyard.
There were all types of books, some Xu Zeng had even said were made specifically for children. Xu Hu Zhe was curious, but he was also patient.
As for Bai Mo, Xu Hu Zhe knew he was patient. Xu Zeng was their troublemaker who liked to do things out of turn.
Xu Feng pinched the bridge of his nose. "Xu Zeng."
"What?" Xu Zeng asked, tilting his head innocently. "This is highly relevant research. You know, relationship studies since you agree I shouldn’t get to—"
Xu Feng stared at him, long and hard, but when the conversation was beginning to make Bai Mo’s eyes grow so large they looked like they would pop out of his head, he knew he needed to stop his brother.
Then, deadpan: "If this is research, does that mean Bai Mo is wild and needs taming?"
Bai Mo’s ears flattened instantly.
Xu Zeng, still unbothered, glanced at the fox-eared ger beside him and shrugged. "I don’t know yet, all I’ve had are kisses."
Bai Mo groaned. Xu Hu Zhe let out a quiet chuckle which he stifled with a cough.
Xu Feng, meanwhile, just shook his head. He and Xu Zeng had had this conversation several times over the last few months. Too many times.
Ever since Xu Zeng had "accidentally" informed him about their engagement plans—before Bai Mo had even officially asked for both of their hands in marriage—Xu Feng had been dragged into this mess.
Xu Zeng wasn’t concerned about the logistics of it all and it took awhile for him to realize he’d spilled the beans prematurely. Whether he and Xu Hu Zhe would be added to Bai Mo’s family lineage or Bai Mo would be added to theirs—was a headache for Bai Mo and Xu Feng to figure out.
Xu Zeng was a man, but he also had a ger form. He had never been particularly attached to Dongzhou, not in the way others were. For Xu Zeng, there was only one major concern.
His needs. Now, their needs as mates.
Selfish? Maybe. But not in the way others might assume.
It wasn’t just about his own pleasure.
He wanted to be free with his mates. He didn’t want to restrain himself around them. He wanted to kiss them whenever he had the urge—which, according to Xu Hu Zhe, was often.
And not just kisses.
Which was exactly the problem.
"We’ve had this conversation a million times at this point—" Xu Feng groaned.
"Not a million," Xu Zeng interrupted, tilting his head as if mentally calculating. "Maybe... twenty-nine times?"
Xu Feng rolled his eyes.
"I don’t even understand why you’re so horny all the time," he deadpanned. "You said the reason I was so horny was because of my ger body, and now that I have children—"
"Cubs," Xu Zeng corrected smoothly.
Xu Feng ignored him. "—the urges aren’t as strong, and Jian and Yang aren’t affected by my scent as much. You’re not using your ger body, so you should be able to restrain yourself."
Xu Zeng just blinked at him, unimpressed.
"We already agreed to a wedding after Momo completes the palace exam, whether he passes or fails," Xu Feng pressed on, trying to keep the conversation grounded in logic.
It wasn’t like he thought Bai Mo would fail.
His friend had been the top scorer in their round of the Shengyuan exam, and though he hadn’t placed as highly in the Juren exam last fall, he had still passed. The palace exam—the Jinshi exam—was a completely different beast, but if Xuan Yang, who had passed at the top of his class, had faith in Bai Mo’s aptitude, then Xu Feng wasn’t going to be the one to doubt him.
Still, that wasn’t the point here.
Xu Zeng looked like he was about to say something absurd—again—so Xu Feng didn’t give him the chance.
This was his beloved brother, but he was absolutely ready to turn tail and let the other two in the room deal with him.
"No sex till marriage. Not in Dongzhou." His words were final.
And with that, he spun on his heel. "I’m going to the Silver Scale."
As he made his grand escape, he barely heard his brother’s amused laugh before Xu Zeng called after him—
"I’m making dinner tonight. Don’t be late. Invite Liu back, too."
Xu Feng waved a hand in the air without looking back. "Yeah, yeah."
He wasn’t dealing with this right now. They’d talk about their New Year’s plans later.
